1. I kind of like it, but then I play T-Birds.
2.
I have an Epi Tbird and it's superb. It honestly sounds like a Gibson to me, particularly through my super sweet, lovely tube amp and cab. My no.1 bass is a US Precision, but the other day i plugged in my Epi and it was just so 'Rock!' Deeper, thicker! For the record, i did date a lap dancer for a bit when the Tbird was my No.1 bass, so the BigBeefChief is right. No heroin addiction though.
The US Birds have Gibson's TBPlus pickups whereas the Epi version has Korean pickups that bear very little resemblance tone and soundwise to the US version. The Epibirds have a pretty good sound on their own IMO (sounds very P-Bassish, liked the one I had) but nothing like a Gibson.
3.
My basses are gigged all the time. That's what insurance is for.
Right on!!
4. I took a Squier Modified P-Bass, found a lightly played Mexican Squier neck on ebay for fairly cheap (looks and feels more like a US Fender neck) changed the pickups to what I was told are DiMarzios, tort pickguard, new wiring harness, knobs, Badass II bridge, Schaller straplocks and it's the only "Fender" I own now. I did keep the Squier neckplate. It does a job a P-Bass is suppoed to do, and though its pedigree is varied that's really all a Fender bass is in the end, various parts thrown together to make a product. I drool just as much looking at 50 year old basses and guitars (and cars for that matter) but its nostalgia mixed with reality. With all the aftermarket parts and relicing techniques around now you can put together a bass that looks and feels just as worn out, played and mojoed as a '58 P-Bass for a tenth of the money. Now if I won the lottery all this is moot.
5. After attending and working a few guitar shows here in Texas I've long since given up any fantasy of owning another "vintage" bass. The prices have become completely insane unless you're independently wealthy, my neck hurt just from shaking my head at the pricetags. I've learned to be happy with reissues. I can make my own mojo.
6. +1 on right hand damping. I was expecting a lot of folks poo-pooing using a pick at all....maybe it's an American thing. It's a great tool to have in your arsenal. A P-Bass and a pick just WORKS, on damn near everything.
7. I had one of those a few years back and yes, I found the B output very weak and found also that 4 string pickups were used instead of 5. Sold it to a friend of mine who installed some 5 string Lace Sensors and still plays it a lot. It played great just sounded anemic.
8. For many years (until the 90's) Schecters were built from parts made in the US, they're built offshore now. That being said, the quality, fit and finish isn't bad. Like a lot of Korean and Chinese basses the electronics could use an upgrade if needed but for a low priced bass they're quite good.

11.
"Redneck" - irony in the US isn't as dead as I thought Marky L: Sounds like it would have been good if you'd won that bass. I regret that I've never 'met' another one... B
I had one about 6 years ago I got from Steve "Dude" Barr, traded in a LP bass for it. Had it for a few months and traded it for a Lakland 4-94 that I eventually traded off as well. He told me to put the Blackstar under the bed, hang on to it, that it was collectible. Did I listen? Oh noooooooooo........... Now I see them going on ebay for $3-4000......"sigh"
12. Hello all! After decades of using various Fenders I've gone Gibson, specifically Thunderbirds so far. I just acquired this one, a Japanese Orville by Gibson and I love it and it's now my new #1.
