1. I got a 2005 s1 Jazz, 'burst with maple board. Love it. The neck has not moved at all since I bought it new. Sounds lush through my ebs amp.

3.
hi guys, think I have finally sorted what I am doing amp/cab wise... hopefully Bass-Ferrits Shuttle will arrive in the country some time this century... damm shipping!! So i will hopefully be purchasing his HD350, at the moment I am only going to be looking at a single cab... are the EBS proline 2x10's adequate as stand-alone cabs, for meduim club gigs with PA support?! Its either that or the Proline 300 1x15 on its own, but im thinking that might be a bit muddy in the mid section!? I was thinking of getting the 4x10, but its too big for my smaller gigs, and probably overkill for 80% of the gigs I do. So the question is 2x10 or 1x15? I play Jazz bass, mainly a 75RI Passive Jazz, but also getting a 5 string KSD 705 somethime soon! What ya think!?
I have both the proline 210 and 300 1x15 with a td650 but last weekend when practising with a drummer I just used the 210. It was monstrously loud, so you should be fine with the proline 2x10. It's fairly compact and the hd350 will be able to perch nicely on top of that cab on its end. Reckon your Jazz will sound luvverly through that setup.
4.
It's good that they didn't make a fuss - in that sense things could have been worse. But the point is, did you end up with something you can't use? Interestingly (well, only a bit interestingly...) mine squeals on one of the speaker outputs, but as I mentioned it's at a frequency on the edge of my hearing - dB-wise it might be quite loud but to me it sounds about the same volume as the mains hum, which isn't too terrible. On the other output it's totally quiet. The first amp I got was horrendous - a really loud square-wave boiling kettle! ...though it didn't occur to me at the time to try both outputs. Totally different issue - I can't get the PC editor to send EQs to the amp. I midi it up to the PC and send EQs on channel 1, click "send" and the patch number comes up on the amp, but the EQ LEDs go flat (i.e. all a t 0dB), and there's no audible EQ. My interest in the software EQ is to change the centre frequencies and bandwidths - e.g. to set the lowest one as a rumble filter, and to get a couple of good "honk" filters in the middle. So far no luck with that. Has anybody else used the software EQ?
I wasn't happy with it. Couldn't live with the noise. I do a fair bit of home practise. Even when jamming with a drummer the drummer commented on how noisy it was. The shop that sold me my current amp helped me get rid of it. As for the editor can't really help you there, never got it to work at all!
5.
"Ashdown were very helpful in trying to fix it. I just wasn't happy with the end result." - If they were helpful but you still ended up with a squealing amp then in what way were they helpful? I just got the replacement today - so far so good. No square-wave boiling kettle. It does squeal but only very quietly, and somewhere around 15k, so it only sounds to me about the same level as the rest of the (quite significant) noise. Anyway, not enough to spoil a gig. And in every other way it sounds great.
In that they were friendly and polite and accepted to take it back twice for warranty repairs. In the end I didn't find the squealing noise acceptable, someone else might have done.
6. As original poster I feel I should offer an update. My superfly was sent back to ashdown twice. The first time a powerboard was replaced. It was different but still noisy! So, sent it back. It came back unchanged. That was as good as it got. So I ditched it. I now have a very reliable, non noisy (but very heavy) EBS td650 instead. I'd much rather put up with the size and weight than go insane listening to a screeching amp! I must add that despite the disappointment of what can only be described as a pile of manure amp, Ashdown were very helpful in trying to fix it. I just wasn't happy with the end result. Though my hearing is sensitive to high frequencies - despite my nearing 30 years of age I can hear those high pitch teenager deterrent thingies outside the local shops. Anyway, in conlusion, if you have a superfly, just be sure it's not a dud one!! If it is, get rid of it!!!
7. +1 for the 75 jazz, lovely.
8.
EBS players?
Well, mine certainly wasn't free, but I'm sure I can survive with just one kidney...
9. Here's mine (if I uploaded the pic correctly). EBS td650 + Proline 210 & 115
10. Nice looking moon there
11. Oooh... Too... many... Jazzes... going to... *thunk*
12. Well I've just got back from the Gallery after having spent the afternoon there. Alex was very helpful as always, and I must have spent about an hour chatting to another bass player about bass playing and music in general. It was the busiest I've ever seen it and yet everyone was friendly and relaxed. The Gallery - not only an alladin's cave of basses/amps but a cool place to hang out!
13. The one Duff has in the rotosound ad is not his own, he didn't have his bass with him for the promo shot. AFAIK he doesn't use Aerodynes. But who cares! If you like it, play it! Never mind which famous player uses it or not! I have a Jap non-export model in OCR with a set of Wizard pups and it is the bees knees! Absolutely love it. The finish of the bass is pretty much flawless, the fretwork much better than my MIA Jazz (sharp edges, ouch) and the neck is lovely and slim with a satin finish that makes it very fast. The non-export model had a control plate like a standard Jazz so no input jack issues there. What I will say is that the standard pups are a bit weedy, hence the switch to Wizards. But then Andy's prices are very reasonable and if you factor in the cost of some replacement pups you're still quids in with a monster sounding p/j to boot!
14. Just to add to the confusion I was comparing my MIA Alder bodied Jazz to my CIJ Basswood bodied Aerodyne and the Aerodyne is actually marginally heavier! I always thought it would be the opposite!
15. Interesting. Thanks for the info...
16. If you're after a P/J, why not try an aerodyne jazz? I have one with wizard overwound pickups and it is LUSH! Plenty dark with the P pickup, but roll the volume back on the p and turn the jazz bridge pup up full and it's all burpy and snarly! The more I play it the more I love it.
17.
This is a well known problem caused by a bad batch of faulty power boards. I doubt very much if Ashdown have any replacement boards as the amps are all made in China. You could give them another try and ask them exactly how they intend to repair it, otherwise you might be best off getting a full refund (which is what I did) Shame, because when they work they're not bad at all. Hamster
They claim the power board was replaced! If it was, they replaced it with another faulty power board!
18. Thanks for the advice peeps, I got a reply from the shop and they're going to take it back and have a go at Ashdown for sending it back unrepaired. If that doesn't work I'll deal with Ashdown directly. Although I've already dropped them an email to the technical department. It's a sad state of affairs but all this has seriously knocked my confidence in Ashdown. I wouldn't get one again
19. Well, last Friday I took a half day off work and collected my poorly superfly after it was "repaired" for the squealing some of them are afflicted with. It was sent back to Ashdown for repair. Get it home, hook it up, switch it on... Guess what, it's still screaming like a banshee. Absolutely no improvement or indeed any change at all! So half a day off work and £50 repair bill for nothing! Needless to say I was feeling very disillusioned this weekend... Still waiting for the shop to reply to my disappointed email...
20.
Thought as much. 'Tis an expensive pass time we have. Modern Stingrays do nothing for me but that one is draw dropping. I went through a few of his vids. Loved the marcus miller bass muted groove. That Stingray still has the best tone in my opinion, though. Cheers for introducing me.
I stumbled across this guy a little while ago, really love his playing. He's not German btw but Danish (I think). Nice Martin btw, I was never really interested in acoustics till I saw this thread, I'm getting a GAS attack!
21. Very tasty collection, I'm very envious.
22. Wow forgot to check this topic, thanks everyone for your input and thanks chardbass for the tab! Great stuff!
23. Just fitted a p/j set to my aerodyne and the transformation is amazing. I've fallen in love with my aerodyne again. Fantastic pickups.
24. ok fixed it, p pickup wiring was inverted
