If he's a good drummer and everyone gets on with him then I'd probably have him back. It kinda depends a bit around his initial decision to quit too. He's admitted he made a mistake, but was there any specific reason he left in the first place? If there was and it's still an issue (eg. Doesn't like the set, too many/not enough gigs, doesn't get on with everyone) then he'll likely end up leaving again unless something changes.

I said I would prefer local gigs to ones that involved too much travelling. He interpreted this as an insult to him - how I don’t know, cos he never got us a single gig anywhere! Maybe I am just not ambitious enough…

We do have other options but this would be the easy one.

We had a good night last night: plenty of dancing and singing to 3 of the 4songs we did.  The exception was “Everything but love” by Jaime Kyle.  It’s a banging tune but I think the 4 of us were probably the only ones in the pub who knew it - now we’ve played it once hopefully a few remember it for next time we do it.  “Price Tag” and “Perfect” (the one by Fairground Attraction) are good singalongs, and my bandmates covered my cock ups in “Perfect” well.  I thought we might struggle with “You can call me Al” but we played it well and the crowd seemed to enjoy it.  We had plenty of positive feed back afterwards.

We performed for the 1st time with a band name: "In Progress"

The video is less than 40s.  It’s the only footage my mate took, but he managed to catch the bass solo in “You can call me Al” (not the original recording version, but something I could fit into 2 bars).

I used to hate the approach of that solo… gave me the willies! Well done for bluffing it.

  3. Keep em coming chaps, thanks!

Funny how drummers keep cropping up. It is a drummer, he quit without notice but now his replacement has moved in he is suggesting he might have made a mistake. We are using him as a dep initially but the future divides our band. One wants him in, one is undecided. And there’s me!

We did a Butlins 70’s weekender at Minehead last night.
We nearly didn’t due to our singer all but losing his voice, but the gig was saved by bringing

along a possible future replacement for him. He did very well considering the circumstances

and at such short notice, so they shared the vocal duties along with me doing a bit too.

Had the use of an SVT rig which I’d been looking forward to.  Unfortunately it seemed to

have a problem during soundcheck so ended up using my GK set up. We got through the

gig okay - great audience of around 2000 mostly in 70’s themed fancy dress and up for

a good time. After we’d finished some of us caught Bootleg Blondie on another stage

who were really good. Plenty of beers afterwards and a good night’s kip in surprisingly nice

lakeside accommodation.  Dreadful journey home today though due to an accident on the

main road in and out of Minehead, necessitating a massive diversion using very narrow

roads into Devon! Took us over 5 hours to get home so absolutely knackered now, looking

forward to a night in etc.

( Got a break of 3 weeks now before our next gig in Milton Keynes, one of the 5 left before

    I leave the band. )

You conjured up your inner Kelly Groucutt👏

  5. I think there’s room for us all in this big ol’ Basschat world! From what I have read I admire you both.  My major motivation is the need to play for as long as I am physically able: too many of my musical inspirers are checking out, and the recent loss of @bumnote and @yorks5stringer has brought home how you never know how long you have got…

PS I know what you mean about football, @Clarky … I am a Fulham s/t holder x2. Wish us luck tomorrow night!

The Pipeline in Brighton last night. Fun but smaller crowd than we would have ideally liked (and I felt for the main act who drove all the way from Nottingham). Guess even a rainy Sunday night doesn't pull out all the goths! Anyhow, my make-or-break test run of Rickenbacker was OK but not as comfortable as my short scale Mustang

Intrigued as to how it works financially (not trying to be rude) to travel to Brighton for a support gig. Is it for exposure or do they actually pay?

  7. I put a plea in items wanted to no avail. So please guide me. Maybe a pic would help…

I have lost one of the long screws and associated spring from my Jazz Bass bridge .  You can only buy in packets but I would prefer one that isnt going to stand out by being shiny and new.

Can anyone help me please? 🙏

Here is the bridge missing a screw.

I suspect you're right - I almost certainly heard that one from a drummer I worked with for many years, who devoured rock star biographies and was chock full of music biz anecdotes just like that. I have long suspected that roughly 50% of them were mis-remembered or just plain made up!

His son Adam played for them live for some years (visible or not, I don’t know)…

I wouldve thought any decent keyboard player would have wanted to remain anonymous 😂
