I watched the Mick Fleetwood and Mark Knoffler ones and enjoyed them, didn't bother with Joe Walsh, sounds like a good move, will be watching the Paul Rodgers

I watched all of them when they were first  shown ( IIRC there are two series?) and enjoyed the banter between Johnson and the guests though some were better than others.

I was disappointed by the Joe Walsh one, LOVED  the Mark Knopfler one (their Geordie bond was great to see) and very pleasantly surprised by the Dolly Parton episode.

Agreed.  I have taught a teenager how to play the four root notes for a I IV V VIm progression in weeks 1 and 2, and watched her play it in week 3.  One note per beat, and she was very pleased to be playing it.  It was acceptable - not least because the church audience set the bar of attainment very low!

The original question was a good one - it made me think about what "good" looks like to others.  I have learnt a lot (and already knew that I not a fast player!).

The original question is not a good one, in my humble opinion.

It is asking for a quantitative answer on a qualitative subject. A pointless exercise.

You might be capable of playing 500BPM but if you try it whilst performing "How long" by ace... you will ruin the song completely.

It's a ridiculous criteria to judge a bass player by, hence my earlier thought as to whether the OP is a troll.

I've got my own ideas on this but it would be interesting to see other people's opinions on this momentous, foundation subject.

That is the minimum finger/plectrum string strikes per minute across all/any notes on the fretboard.

You don't half come up with some rubbish.

    There isn't one .

Either you are the most judgemental person I have ever heard of or you are the most boring Troll.

Yes ...I am aware that that last bit is judgemental but, in my defence, I've never used Broccoli to play bass with.

  4. I know I commented earlier about how generous it is of you to do this, and ,in reality I will probably never use this resource because I seem to have retired from bass playing but, once again...THANK YOU

    And..

@ped  This really needs to be preserved, pinned, Archived...what ever . I don't know I am useless with computers! I do know that you should also be proud to have created a forum that has won the trust of a well respected musician.

    Hat's off to you both.

    Most listened to ever...

Frampton Comes Alive, closely followed by Live and Dangerous Thin Lizzy and Humble Pie Performance.

I know it's not very hip to admit that "Comes Alive" is my most played but I loved it when it came out and played it constantly.

Currently my most played , by a VERY long way is... Live at the SVA by The Achievers.

If I recall correctly, his amp failed twice in a row. He said sod it put in everything fresh: replace amp, cab, cables, bass; the lot. Walked to the front of the stage, points angrily at bass, points at dude and shove the bass towards his face before turning round to fetch the spare one.

Cheapskate gives a faulty bass away eh?  😉

  8. My thoughts are , why is it necessary to know?

Are you trying to find the winner of the "Fastest fingers on Basschat" competition, or just worrying if you can play fast enough?

I have no idea how many I can play; enough to have been complimented on my bass playing at times but also enough to feel totally inadequate when watching some people play!

This question reminds of being mightily impressed by the likes of Jan Ackerman on guitar as a young music loving teenager but then realising that Guitarists like Tony Bourge and Tony Mcphee played with much more feeling .

Keep on pursuing knowledge though...don't be put off by grumpy old me not understanding your question:i-m_so_happy:
