1.
wow. there's not a lot of basses i'd consider to be 'ugly'. but that makes me feel sick! and to top it off, look at the price!!!
I hadn't even noticed the price! I was too preoccupied with the angle of the Low E past the nut and the general placement of the tail piece/bridge.
2. It's not his, but the way it's listed makes it seem like it might be to someone of lower intelligence. It does say though that it's brand new, and hence can't have been previously owned by said indie 'star'. They've carefully selected what pictures they use, black and white, ones tainted by stage lights so that you can't tell what colour bass he's playing. I'm almost 100% that those pictures are from the remake of the banquet video, and from what I remember he played a blue one. Possibly the most misleading thing is the item description: "Bloc Party's Brand New FENDER Precision P-Bass Guitar". It says it's Bloc Party's bass, which is definitely misleading potential buyers. Although, £1200 for a Mex P-bass? No-one falling for that.
3. I just saw the neck join and the cutaways!
4. What a f***ing hideous bass: Firewood
5.
HOWARD MOON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. I had to do something similar when an item I'd paid for still hadn't turned up. The seller claimed to have been ill and said he would try and find out where it was. I said that as a registered seller he would've had the smarts to get proof of postage and then he disappeared again. Looking at his recent feedback it seems other people have had the same happen to them. He'd been online to leave feedback (negative, when it was entirely his fault) but didn't bother to tell me where my stuff was. I lodged a complaint and was given a refund, and the guy has since been removed from ebay. Linus27, I'd report the guy, or be on the phone to him everyday asking where the bass was. Threaten to get the police involved too, see if your stuff doesn't miraculously turn up. If it does make sure you check the date stamp on it, so you know if he's been BSing.
7. Got the volumetric weight of the Peavey, a hefty 41.37, but that sounds about right. No idea of the actual weight though, the amp is 37kg, but there's a lot of packaging. Do I phone APC with the weight and they tell me the cost?
8. Let me know how the GK sounds- I'm looking for a new amp and the 700RB is an option.
9.
If you tell people what:- your bass & cabs are; the music you play; the sound you want and your budget then you'll get some pretty sound advice and options you may not of thought of. Hamster
Will do sir Basses are Mexican Jazz and Precision, both with SD 1/4 Pound pickups for a big fat bassy sound. No cabs just now, I had been playing a Peavey TNT 115 combo, but thats gone to fund my new amp. Music is heavy rock, a bit prog, like Foo Fighters crossed with Pink Floyd. I enjoy the bass sound of Reuben's Jon Pierce and Brand New's Garrett Tierney, listening to them is what's currently inspiring me to play bass these days. As for the sound I want, I've recently been given the opportunity to play both a MAG 300 and ABM 300, and loved the sound of them both, it suits my Jazz sound and sounds great when I've got my Boss ODB-3 running too. IMO, of course. Budget is about £400 for the head just now, but possibly higher by the end of the month.
10.
Yeah, you're right there. Much underrated little amp with a great sound.
+1 They have these in the practice rooms at the uni I went to, and many a time we had to be told to turn it down by the neighbours about 500 yards away. Nice amp
11.
Why dont you read the sticky?
Sorry, didn't see there was a sticky. Cheers!
12. So if a head says minimum impedance 4 ohms (for example), that doesn't mean you have to run it through a 4 ohm cab for it to work, it just means you need to run it through a 4 ohm cab for it to run at full power?
13. I called it impedance. In my post that is. But I'll change it if it keeps everyone happy.
14. Phew, was worried that running them together would blow the amp or something.
15. I was looking at the Ashdown ABM 410 T, which is an 8 ohm cab. However, the ABM head (the 500W one at least) is 4 ohms. Does this mean the head and cab are not compatible with each other? Or, does it mean that I need to run another 8 ohm cab to get it to work? I'm not really sure how impedance with heads and cabs works. Cheers Jono
16. That not bad, two of these going on ebay just now from the same starting at £525 and BIN of £565
17.
ok, bump for 2008 and further price drop to 500 euro curt
What's that in good ol' £ sterling?
18. That's what I was hoping wasn't the case. I reckon I might try to get up to Glasgow soon to try out some heads, but I'm pretty set on an Ashdown. The main reason I started this thread was because I didn't know what MOSFET was. I've seen the term bandied about a bit, but I don't really see the point in telling folk it's MOSFET if it's just standard solid-state transistors.
19. Wow! My first bass was a third hand Peavey Foundation, in red with a maple neck, but 4 string. And probably not Made in America either. Not in the market for a new bass ATM but this brought back some memories. Sorta wish I still had it. Good luck with the sale.
20.
Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor, it's just a type of transistor used in solid-state amps. Hamster
Is that good? Or bad?
21. I'm looking at an Ampeg B2RE, and it says on the GAK site that power amp is MOSFET? Is this good or bad? I really have no idea about amps really beyond solid state and Valve, is there something along the lines of Bass Amps for Dummies on here? Something that covers stuff like this, possibly ohmage, bi-amping, separate pre and power amps, that kind of thing? Is the B2RE a decent amp?
22.
There's this one in the sale forum: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=9866 And a tubepath 10.1 also in the sale forum: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=10965
I'm aware of the ABM 300 on here. Sadly, I've spoken to jay249 about it, he's unwilling to post which is fair enough, and I'm to far away to collect it. Sad times. I have found a new ABM 500 on ebay for £399, which is an option I suppose. Oh, and the Tubepath's gone, but 1000W is a bit too much for me.
23. Someone got a bargain there; £146! Granted its a bit scruffy, but that's a steal
24. You supported Reuben? One of my favourite bands, and Jon's got one of the best bass sounds around. What is/was your band called?
25. Apologies if I wasn't clear about what I was after, I realise now I wasn't. I'm after a head and cab, rather than a combo. Budget is about £4-500 for the head. I'm really after an Ashdown ABM 300 but I can't find one anywhere. Now I'm just trying to find a decent head of some sort, but I'm not entirely sure what. This was just meant to be a general thumbs up/thumbs down thing for Warwicks. Might have look about for Tubepath.
