1. My GHS half rounds start off really zingy but mellow out after a week or so, then they last a couple of months before they sound like flat wounds. Give them a go, they're about £20 on ebay I think.
2. Have you tried the black dunlop Tortex plectrums? They're thin and stiffer than Gary Glitter at playgroup.
3. It's all good except for "Use Somebody." That song is such a buzz kill.
4. "You've got the job, but you're gonna have to use a Thunderbird. Here's one I painted earlier using some poster paint, and then covered with a thin layer of PVA glue to give it a nice shiny finish." That's how I imagine/hope the conversation went. Congratulations anyway!
5. She's just the NME's latest hype, have a look on their website, they have a new story every day about how ordinary and down to earth she is. I'd put money on them giving her album a bad review, the NME's usual trick is to build an artist up for months and then slaughter them when the debut album comes out. Anyone remember Viva Brother? No? Of course you don't, because they're s*** and don't seem to exist outside of the NME's coverage. They were the magazine's last "next big thing" and now they've been abandoned since the bad reviews came rolling in, and it's probably going to happen to Lana Del Rey too.
6.
Second list > first list.
I'd have to agree with you, although She Bangs the Drums and Rain would've been nice to play.
7.
Bloody hell you know it's bad when someone Can't/Won't learn Oasis on the basis of the chords used
I know, if the bassist knows more basic guitar chords than you, somethings not right. He refused all of my efforts to show him even the easiest ones.
8.
Wasn't BB King was it?
Haha, I wish
9.
Think maybe he's just trying to tell you something. What were the songs ?
We originally wanted to play She Bangs The Drums - The Stone Roses Rain - The Beatles My Generation - The Who Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix Go Let It Out - Oasis I Fought the Law - The Clash's version, and House of the Rising Sun But because of our chordless wonder we ended up doing Paranoid - Black Sabbath Dreaming of You - The Coral Breaking the Law - Judas Priest For Whom the Bell Tolls - Metallica Teenage Kicks - The Undertones Dream - The Everly Brothers Blitzkreig Bop - The Ramones We were saved by power chords and our rhythm guitarist, and the gig went really well. The thing is, he's technically not a bad player, he just learned by himself in his bedroom copying songs from tabs (mostly shredding and tapping) without taking the time to learn and understand what he was playing when the occasional chord did appear.
10. From a guitarist: "I can't play songs x, y and z because I don't know chords and I can't be arsed learning." I thought he was joking.
11. Just keep playing the thing, planning out your learning and observing others can take you so far, but you'll only get better by playing your bass. Sign up for Paul Wolfe's news letter on YouTube, he really helped me when I was first learning.
12. I hate that feeling when you know you've just put your foot right in it.
13. They bought Bassmasta didn't they? Most of the tabs I've looked at are pretty accurate, but some aren't even close.
14. It's not so much the weight that's the problem, it's the handles on either side that make it awkward to carry, doorways are a right pain in the arse when you keep peeling the skin off the back of your hands every time you pass through one.
15. The only thing I don't like about it is the size and weight of it, especially with the MBC115 cabinet.I've put my bass next to it for scale, so you can see what it all looks like because I find that the pictures on music sites don't always give you a good idea of how big some amps are.
16. I've got the MB4210 with the MBC115 cabinet and it sounds really good in my opinion. It's loud enough on its own for small gigs/rehearsal, and the cab, which soundslive.co.uk were selling for £150 last week does indded make it all look really cool and sounds great too.
17. I wonder if anyone has a copy of the Beatles performing Paperback Writer on TOTP, I read somewhere that the BBC wiped that too.
18. Are they active or passive?
19. How much did that set you back? I want one of those so badly that I've hidden a black one behind a couple of Fenders in my local music shop, in the hope that nobody finds it and I can buy it after Christmas.
20. What would you class as budget?
21. Apologies if this has been done before, I did a search but didn't see anything similar. I had my first ever gig last night performing a few covers at my work's christmas party, and I loved it. We all played well and it the audience were great, everyone was dancing and singing along, and they shouted for more once we'd finished. I can't wait to do it again next week. So, did everyone else's first gig go as well, or did you fall flat on your arse and die? Let's hear it!
22. I taught him how to do that, true story.
23. What's a wolf tone?
