1. Saw them in 2008 and they are back to strength with a full brass section. Almost as good as the Reality tour Recommended
2. Tickets for Newcastle gig now back on sale. Just bought 2
3. A bit mysterious still.... I've spoken to Ticketweb, who confirm that my tickets are still valid for the event. However, they are not selling any more at the moment. It is not sold out, and it has not been cancelled or postponed as far as they are aware. The guy just said keep trying the site over the next few weeks. He also said, because I have tickets they'll let me know straight away if it's been cancelled, so I will update on here if that happens. Maybe they're waiting for the promoter to pay the deposit on the room? Reminds me of the time they re-scheduled a Newcastle gig as they were rumoured not have been allowed through customs after their previous gig in Amsterdam
4. Cheers. I ended up getting the Warwick Infinity after a chat with Norwood in 2008 - I've been using a thumb NT 5 for about 20 years - just before I saw Norwood using the same at the Riverside - I'd been unable to find another bass that had the mid range punch of the Thumb but with a more rounded tone - tried Streamers and hated them. Norwood suggested trying an Infinity and then he used one at the gig that night - I was blown away by the sound. Amp is a Thunderfunk with 2 x 90s Trace cabs (2x10 and 4x10) We are considering getting a couple of mates to do horns and try and do another Fishbone track at next one. Trouble is Fishbone tracks are so difficult to arrange without keyboards and 3 vocalists. Also trying to work out what's going on in those tracks isn't always straight forward To get back on topic, I'm going to try and speak to the Ncle academy about what's happening with this gig as I need another couple of tickets for some mates coming over from the US. I'll keep you posted
5. Some stuff from our last Trillians gig here http://www.youtube.com/dogmanband And one of Sunless Saturday that one of our audience took from the same gig http://www.youtube.com/v/AgKwGPEhJLg
6.
Yes, gutted that I won't be able to get to see King's X as the wife is due to give birth that week. Boo. Dogman sounds interesting though!
I believe it's free entry. We'll be doing 90s alt - Alice in Chains, janes Addiction, Kings X, Fishbone, Living Colour, Pearl Jam etc. I saw Fishbone in Leeds 2008 (as well as in the early 90s). Awesome gig.
7. Kings X playing a few weeks before too. And my coverband - Dogman - doing Fishbone and Kings X covers in between at Trillians 15th April Strange thing going on with tickets though - I bought mine when they went on sale and they arrived last week, but a friend has been unable to buy tickets even from the academy box office, they claim they don't know what's happening apparently. Weird, especially since they've now sent me my 6 tickets. They're doing a full tour and you can buy tickets for all the other dates
8. It is very well made. I'm a Warwick man really - Thumb 5 NT and Infinity 5 NT
9. I realise it's the CH-12 rather than the B12, but all the sites I've been on in the past year list them as discountinued
10. We all love KingsX in the band (which is called Dogman), so we do 90s alt/metal people know and throw in a couple of Kings X songs to educate the masses!
11. This was a factory second that a dealer in the US was selling on ebay for around $500. I sent it to some friends in the States as a joke saying buy this for me for Christmas - we always do silly stuff like that! I was a bit shocked when they turned up with it the other night I don't think Hamer make them any more, so they are pretty rare. My band do early 90s covers - Kings X/Pearl Jam etc, so the twelve string will fit in perfectly for some of the set I am a very lucky lad!
12. I've been unexpectedly bought a 12 string bass for Christmas by some unvbelievably generous friends. It is an awesome sounding thing, but quite tricky to play So good that I've broken my self imposed rule of not posting bedroom playing stuff on Youtube. These are my band playing covers of stuff that originally used 12 string basses, with me playing new takes with the new bass http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHrIIQbO0mA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMkG8VQ_Clc
13. As a player and producer/engineer, I'd ask if you trust the engineer in question. If yes, then let him get on with it. If no or don't know, I suggest you familiarise yourself with some of his/their previous work before going much further. With my producer/engineer hat on, if a player was getting really arsey and I thought he/she was wrong, I'd record a decent DI and their amp signal, knowing that I could fall back in an emergency using the DI and re-amping when they weren't there. Luckily for me, I don't find myself in these situations. It isn't my day job and I can pick the people I want to work with
14. Cheers You could do worse than getting the new Kings X Live DVD. I was at that gig last year, one of the best I've seen. Awesome live band, and Dug Pinnick has an incredible bass tone
15. Cool. Come and say hello when you get down to see us. I'll be the one playing the bass
16. I'd agree with you on Ian's voice Probably the new year for us now, as our drummer has a hernia op lined up and can't play at all at the moment. If you sign up to one of our myspace/facebook/twitter services we'll send out notices when we have our next gig organised www.dogmanband.co.uk
17. An AKG D112 in front of a cab, plus a good quality DI is the best way to go. As mentioned earlier, watch out for phase problems which will manifest themselves fairly obviously in the sound. For demos I just use a pod x3 live (or my old Bass POD), and again take a DI/clean signal and an effected one. When recording for material that will be released to the public, I would always use a DI and miced cab combination.
18. There's also a cover of Jeremy by Pearl Jam on there now http://www.youtube.com/dogmanband
19. I've recorded a few songs for demos for my new band Dogman. Black Hole Sun http://www.youtube.com/dogmanband#p/a/u/0/URiK_h2cIYc Dogman http://www.youtube.com/dogmanband#p/a/u/1/VQ03PaPK4QU Hope you enjoy them. Recording:... No instruments were recorded acoustically Bass was Thumb NT going into a POD X3 Live - this is an awesome bass effects units as you can split two amps into a single output. This is an Ampeg SVT, then distortion/effects on the other channel. The Infinity may be may favourite ever bass, but the Thumb NT records like no other and is a joy to mix. Guitar was on the new POD HD 500 which is quite simply unbelivable Drums were recorded on one of the new 2Box kits Vocals were recorded normally Mixed on Cubase by me.
20. Trace 2x10. Great service, great communication throughout the deal, well packaged and no problems at all. Buy with confidence from Geoff
21. I'd be interested in this, if I wasn't in newcastle. Any chance of posting this up? SOLD TO ME
22. Awesome awesome amps. There's a sound/video clip from my band 300ft Gorilla on the Thunderfunk website from my 550A. Just amazing sounding kit. Never looked back since I bought mine http://www.thunderfunk.com/YouTube.html Good luck with the sale
23. 1995 Trace Elliot 1048H. Bought it new and has been a fantastic cab.
