Hello , sorry if i can wrong section..but didn't know where to put the topic... anyway i got a bass on Ebay Uk , the seller said me that the cheaper way of shipping he found is parcelforce at the cost of 69£ , that seems me a lot cause i often bought basses from Germany or Netherland and always paid around 40 euros... can you please tell me some company or some experience of you to ship outside Uk and what price paid? thanx a lot for the help
I've shipped a lot of basses from the UK to Portugal, and in my experience, Parcelforce were the cheapest option around. I have used two other companies that were slightly cheaper, but I had problems on both occasions with the delivery time (one company actually "lost" a guitar, only to find it literally sitting outside the office of the w***er who was assigned to find the bloody thing!!!) I think you'll find that the UK is really expensive when it comes to shipping costs.
 2.
I was told that for instance you import an item via shipping from a county like Denmark which has a VAT of 25% that you had to pay the difference?
Just clarify something. Above, you said you knew this stuff from experience. Now, you're saying that you were told this stuff. Which is it? Regardless, as setekh said, you're wrong. Thing is, I do know this stuff from experience. I've had around 15 basses sent down from the UK, and have sent around 10. I've also received basses from Germany. There was never any suggestion that any taxes had to be paid. In contrast, I've received 3 basses from the US, and each time, I paid sales tax (VAT in the UK), duty, and customs clearance.
 3.
errr... he is in Portugal right? If I were to buy the bass, I would have to pay V.A.T as well, it doesn't matter if the bass is used. I've imported plenty of computer parts, guitars, amps and basses from the US to know what I can get stung on unless Portugal is different for some reasons I don't know about? Shipping is dependent on the county it is being shipped from, i've been surprised by sub $100 quotes on guitars before now especially if the vendor/seller has a large account with a shipping company. I've never encountered a release charge on any of my dealings, except importing cars and equally substantial goods. IMO when you modify anything beyond it's specification, it de-values it. Take modified cars for instance, do you think the average sale recuperates their money back from their original investment? The only cars that I have seen make money are extremely custom items built by figure heads in the hotrod/modification community, which is the equivalent of a Luthiers like Mike Lull for example. Anyway, I don't want to damage your chances of a sale any more than I may have already. I hope you get what you want for it
What you've said above about taxes being applied is completely incorrect. Portugal and the UK are both in the EU, and for that reason, no import taxes are applied. I know this from experience, having received and sent numerous basses over the years. To be honest, and I'm not pointing the finger at anyone specifically, but I think there's a few posts on this thread that seem to be aimed at either spoiling the sale, or forcing the seller into reducing the price below what he thinks is a reasonable value. It was suggested to me a while back that there are some people on this forum who do these things, but I defended the forum and said I couldn't see that happening here. Consider me corrected. EDIT: There seems to be some confusion here about who the seller is. I am not the seller, although I am a friend of the seller.
 4.
See his other bass for sale if you want a real laugh
Actually, this makes me feel a little better, because at least I know there's only one clown responsible for both of these! To be honest, the Japanese bass is probably the more ridiculous price - I can't see that being worth more than £4-500. The '69 is probably worth a grand, so it's only twice the value!!
 5. I think the Stingray's a nice 5 string for people who prefer 4 strings (such as myself). I owned one for a while, and got along pretty well with it.
 6.
Do nothing...especially not buy it for £2K. In my humble opinion I think that bass is barely worth half what he's asking for it - if that. Why?

He's managed to break the truss rod (WTF?) - so the neck/fretboard has had to be repaired
The pickups /wiring aren't original
Sounds like there's been some re-routing to fit the EMGs & wiring
The bridge is replaced & then it's not even a real Badass bridge!
Someone's carved their name into the back of the headstock & this guy thinks 'great idea - I'll carve mine on top!'
Who knows what else has been messed with?
It looks in pretty poor condition & has been abused & chopped about rather than cared for & cherished
No ashtrays, or case

Yeah, I think you're pretty much on the money here. When I first saw the auction, I thought "yeah, that's priced about right". But reading through it, the amount of damage and the changes on this bass have destroyed it's value. He's kidding himself if he honestly thinks he'll get £2000 for it.
 7. 10. Was up to 15 or 16 at one point, but decided to move a few. 2 Sadowskys 3 Fenders (66 Jazz, 66 P, 76 Jazz) Gibson 77 T'Bird 2 Matons (from Australia - it's an Aussie thing!) Steinberger L2 (that I'd probably like to sell) Ibanez ATK
 8.
No its not on ebay. Guys what you think about the price? I want this to sell quick, I've seen some on ebay and gbase selling for 8000 and $9000.
Not going to comment on the price, as I think you should charge what you think it's worth. However, if you're using the internet to determine a price, I'd say you should treat Gbase as the very top end of pricing. Gbase is just a central database for dealers (usually vintage specialists), so the prices there reflect that. Ebay's probably a more reliable source of what a private sale might be worth, however, you have to get on there at the right time to find instruments relevant to your sale. It's a bit more hit and miss.

 10.
Hey guys, Planning on buying a synth and seeing as I've started a new job and the money seems pretty good I thought I'd get something of conciderable quality. Just wondering what's the best way to get hold of one of these and what sort of price I should expect to pay? If they're that hard to get hold of could anyone recomment another good synth pedal. I'm not after any sound in particular, I just want quality and variety... Cheers!
If you don't want to spend the money that a DI will cost, I think the little Digitech pedal is quite nice. It doesn't have the same analog sounds that the DI provides, but it's still got some nice sounds of it's own. It's worth checking out, just to see if it's got something in there that you can use. Having said that, I own a DI, and it always amazes me how cool some of the sounds are. I also just picked up a Unibass, which is a very cool pedal as well.
 11.
Maybe it's time to revisit them - I tried one before I got the Lakky but wasn't immediately sold on the sound. I'm obviously becoming fussy in my old age! Ped - that looks fantastic but all the gigs I do now tend to require me to be playing something much more traditional looking (unfortunately!)
I own 2 Sadowsky 4 strings, and played by themself, the sound doesn't immediately hit you with a lot of "wow" factor. However, put them into a band setting (recorded or live) and you've suddenly got a bass sound that, IMHO, is nearing perfection with regards to the way it provides low end and definition. Also, as a 4 string player, I'm fairly picky about B strings, but I really like the B strings on the Sadowskys I've tried.
 12. Personally, I really like the few Sadowsky 5 string basses I've tried, but they're a 34" scale, so may not suit you.
 13. Yeah, the bass was the ATK, and it came in the 100, 300, 400 and 500 series. There was also a 5 string, the 305. There may've been more models than I've stated, these are just the ones I know of. The original line was discontinued about 3 years back ( I think), however, Ibanez re-released the line this year. Supposedly the new basses are pretty much the same (ie. just as good) as the original basses.
 14.
I agree looking after children, the sick, the old and infirm is noble...... does anyone really need help in the way alluded to ? OK so many a time i've paid £50 more for something than I could have done if i'd shopped around perhaps ! or I bought something on impulse without doing my homework. I got over it...... infact I wasn't bothered in the first place, I was happy with my purchase and my price. I wouldn't have thanked anyone for making me feel stupid and pointing out that I paid more than I needed. I don't think what rears it's head on here is anything to do with "looking after" anyone else.... it's motivated by trying to spoil a deal for somebody, or put a spanner in the works. There's a sort of... "well I didn't get top $ for the last thing I sold so why the hell should this guy..... let's Piss on his chips" Again....... I think it's motivated by envy in many cases......... Let me say for the record, i've never had a sale "spoiled" on here so have no personal axe to grind on this issue, but I see it happening on threads and think it's wrong, this fodera sale is one of the prime (possibly worst) examples recently....... Nothing is solved by committee, and an (initially) well intended "mob mentality" has caused many a problem in history
Just to clarify, I think we're on the same page in that neither of us wants that "mob mentality" to take hold. My experience on here is that, going back a while, people watched out for genuine problems - dodgy goods, non-existent goods, items that were decscribed incorrectly (whether deliberately or not) etc. Which is probably where most forums start off at. I think when people are pointing out stuff like this, I feel that's reasonable. As for people "spoiling" sales, I'd like to think that's not the case, although I can see where you may get that impression from. That's my opinion, of course, and I certainly don't expect all to agree.
 15. One of the things I like about Basschat (and it's predecessors) is that I think people watch out for each other to make sure no one get's taken advantage of. That's a good thing, however, we have to be careful that we don't turn that attitude into a witch hunt. There's a classic example of another bass forum (which will remain nameless) which basically started the same way, then turned into a posse attacking people left, right and centre, often unfairly and with very little basis for the attacks. The intention was good, the "posse" thought they were protecting the members of the forum, but they became a police force unto themselves, and I think tended to alienate a lot of newbies in the process. This is a good forum, guys, and it's good that people watch each other's backs. I'd just hate to see it get to the point where it got a reputation as an unfriendly forum because people took the policing attitude a little too far.
 16. I think your solution can be quite simple and cheap if you want it. Go for an outboard preamp. A cheap one I've tried that works really nicely is the Yamaha NE-1. I prefer that unit with P basses, but it still works nicely with a J/J set up. £40 should see you right with one of these. (Note - I'm not sure the NE-1 is actually a preamp, but more of a parametric equalizer. Regardless, it'll give you a nice result). If money can be stretched a little further, try a Sadowsky stomp box. They sound amazing with J/J set ups, and will add heaps of "oomph" to your sound without adding mud.
 17.
would that make you grandpa and great grandpa?
Jeebus, I didn't need to hear the words "Great Grandpa" being applied to me this morning!! Good luck with the sale.
 18.
It's my old Roscoe, cracking bass here people, a real gem and great powerful tone.
And mine before that!!! Totally agree, it's a very good bass.
 19.
My first bass was a nice black 70's Musicmaster, at the time I thought it was crap; playability & soundwise. I traded it for a Westone Thunder 1A. Like a lot of people, was heavily into slapping (with a dodgy mullet) in the early eighties. Everyone back then seemed to want to be Mark King. Westone got nicked shortly afterwards... Now as my tastes & style have changed, wish I still had the Musicmaster (along with the Westone!). In hindsight, a cracking little bass, really punchy & now quite cool looking. Worth buying, if you can find one at reasonable price, & get on with shortscale basses. Didn't Tina Weymouth (Talking Heads) use one?
I think Tina used a Mustang, although I might be wrong.
 20.
I owned one a few years back. I thought it was excellent. Great sound, to say the least.
21. I owned one a few years back. I thought it was rubbish. Crap sound, to say the least. If you want to try a short scale bass, have a look round for a Cort Action Jr. I tried one last weekend, and thought it was quite good.
 22. I'd always recommend a Stingray, as I think they're a great 5 stringer. Unfortunately, I think I know what your answer to that is, as I don't think you like Stingrays much, right?
 23. Just be careful with this - this is a Badass I, the original version, which needs routing to be installed on a Fender instrument. The bridge you need for a Fender is a Badass II.
