2. Crowther Audio Prunes & Custard. Subdecay Noise Box. EHX HOG. EHX Ravish Sitar.
3.
The Vintage Jaco copy seems to get favourable comments. http://www.thomann.d...jp_fretless.htm
Owned one once. Killer value for the price. Hell, even if it was twice as expensive it will still be great.
4. A small amp will never deliver the same low end. It might sound nice to you because of its midrange.
5.
but I can't hear any difference with 'lo freq contour' switch(?)
Me neither! I *think* it retains some low mids in the fuzz tone but it might be just an illusion.
6. I owned a Violin bass. It wasn't bad.. for the price. You don't really need much to get the basic Hofner tone, even with such weak pickups. It didn't sound like a hollowbody, no woody tone whatsoever, but that's not really the Hofner sound. IMO the cheapest decent hollowbody bass you can get would be an Ibanez, and the pickups and hardware are still cheap and weak (I think they're the same chinese pickups that the HB Violin has). Ibanez really doesn't charge money just for the brand, and we're talking about more than twice the HB price tag. Anyway as I said, for that money it's worth at least giving it a try.
7. I've had a couple of HB basses and owned and tried several hollowbody basses. They just require good craftmanship and good parts. A decent Fender-like instrument doesn't need much to be worth 100€, but a hollowbody, arched top bass does. I'm not a snob, I've owned quite a decent amount of affordable basses (actually, more than high end ones). I've also tried one or two HB acoustic guitars and they're just not good. There is a level of quality where it doesn't matter how cheap the product is, it just isn't worth the money. If you want to try one, well you can only waste a couple hundred quid, so I reckon they're worth the try. No one really complains about the QC or overall quality of the cheapest instruments because they are, well, the cheapest. Reviews usually say "good value for the money"... it's hard to get bad value for 100 quid.
8. A hollowbody bass must be well built to sound decent and last long. I don't think this HB can achieve neither goal. I would expect: crappy tunners, high action, bad intonation, weak pickups, poor sustain. It's much more expensive to build one of these than to build a Fender knock-off, so something must be sacrificed and in the case I bet many things must have been. The bass is a Grestch copy. Notice the master volume pot at the lower horn (the guys in Thomann don't even know what's for, apparently). It's short scale (30.5").
9. Hi guys I've been trying to get a synthy sound out of my fuzz pedals and I think the Prunes & Custard might do the job. https://www.youtube....eature=youtu.be What do you think? The mix knob is quite down so for a solo I can make it synthier by turning it up. I realized I like it better on the "guitar" position. Actually the "bass" position is a treble rolloff for the fuzz sound, so putting it in "guitar" makes the whatever-it's-called-warbly-sound more noticeable. Cheers!
10. The biggest problem with the Bassmaster is that the volume is just insane. I had it leveled in the video because it made the clean demo unaudible if I normalised all the audio as a whole.
11. Thanks guys for your comments! I really appreciate them The BBM is the one I like the least... although I recon it might be useful for Sabbath tones and such. It's bassy but in a way I don't really like... just too muddy (my bass is quite muddy itself because of the tuning and gauge). The low end on the Pickle is just awesome, I can't get tired of it. Once you switch it off you instantly miss that sub bass and wish it could work as a clean bass boost. The Prunes & Custard is probably my favourite, but it's not one that you can use as a "normal" fuzz box, because of the filter-like warble.
12. Hi guys, I´ve made a wee video comparing my bass fuzz pedals. These are: Malekko B:assmaster Way Huge Swollen Pickle MK II EHX Bass Big Muff CalzAmps Fuzzonetti (Woolly Mammoth clone) Crowther Audio Prunes & Custard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jgt559HvoI&feature=youtu.be The audio has been retouched only to even the levels (these pedals have tons of gain). I played my Fender Road Worn Jazz Bass P+J tuned BEAD and strung with 110-90-65-45 chromes. The loop is played back by a TC Electronic Ditto. Hope you like it!

A compatriot of mine builds Whooly Mammoth clones with an active/passive switch and internal pre-gain control so you can use them with active basses. https://www.facebook.com/calzamps It's called the fuzzonetti and there are a few demos on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UA3GQwDEBg It sounds just like the original and the guy posts to the UK (I received mine a few days ago). The pedal is not produced from any blueprint found on the internet but from a professionally reverse engineered Whoolly Mammoth. The builder works in R&D at a telecom company so he knows what he's doing.
14. I wasn't sure at the moment because I'm not aware of vintage prices in the UK, but now that I've had a look at Andy Baxter's site (which is not particularly cheap) I see it is indeed overpriced. The front looked much better than the back.
15. Hi guys, I´ve tried this bass at a local shop. https://31.media.tum...d0va7o1_500.jpg https://24.media.tum...0va7o2_1280.jpg It´s a ca 73/74 Fender Precision, according to the serial number on the neckplate. The finish is quite beaten up: scratches, dings on the back, a slightly less than thumb-sized chip on the back of the neck and a small burn on the side (probably from a cigarette). Nothing really awful looking, but far from mint condition. The finish is nitro (I thought 70s Fender were all poly). All parts seemed original except for the mirror scratchplate, but since I didn't unscrew it I can't tell about the electronics. Action was a bit high but very playable, it had a bit of margin left on the bridge to lower it and I guess that the truss rod has room too. The strap buttons had been moved for whatever reason (upwards for the back one and downwards for the front one). After all the cons, let's get positive: the bass sounded great, a real 70s Precision in all its growly glory. Not very meaty (although it was plugged to a relatively small Peavey amp), but rolling off the tone the growl turned into a mellow, singing sound. Just lovely. And completely even across the whole fretboard, too! The body is quite lightweight, I'd say 4kgs max, lighter than my Road Worn Jazz Bass, which is quite surprising for a 70s Fender. Now to the tough part... the price: 1695 quid. I could afford it, but it will be another piece of equipment sitting in my room so I don't think it's worth the sacrifice... at least for now (I am in only one band and we don't even rehearse every week). Finally, when I was leaving the shop I saw a '66 (or so it said in the tag) Oympic white Jazz Bass with the covers, hanging there for 3000 pounds. Now at home I regret not trying it too
16. You can get that sound with a P or JB (neck pickup) with low action, played with a pick through a decent valve amp. It's more or less the classic Ampeg rock sound. A similar tone: https://www.youtube....h?v=-r70v2niI5Q https://www.youtube....h?v=kBEDYyoOZ6Y https://www.youtube....h?v=1Ssz5km24T4 (they are all the same song)

18. Well in Thomann you can see that the back of the body and neck is finished in plain black, and satin finish is way cheaper than high gloss in nitro. Also I guess we're a bit used to Fender's rip offs, such as 700€ for an extremely basic, 60 year old assembly line design manufactured in Mexico.
19.
I have a chocolate satin one, great bass & very light indeed,Fenders can only dream about the punch these badies have.
That is what I wanted to read. If you could give me an exact measurement then my credit card will be ready to burn.
20. I´ve been there yesterday evening, such a lovely place. It´s more the kind of pub I´m used to, I still don´t fancy the ones in Cathedral Quarter for some reason... the weather is nice, it´s just the opposite to my hometown, but I like it (they say I´m crazy for thinking that).
21. Thank you all for your warm welcome. It´s been a bit difficult for me these last months... different language, totally different climate and even though there´s a healthy music scene I am having some trouble searching bands to join. Back in Spain I could just go to a couple of forums and place an ad at the local rehearsal rooms and that was all, but here the forums I´ve visited are not very active and the rehearsal rooms are small and scattered all over the city. The Empire is such a lovely venue, I´m looking forward to playing there some time... been yesterday night for the Kings of Lyon and the sound and lights were top notch. Cheers to you all
22. Hi, I´m terribly GASed by this new model: It´s VERY reasonably priced, but I am concerned about the weight of the bass. I´ve tried a few EB3s over the years and they have ranged from lightweight (a Tokai copy) to heavier than a WW (a 70s Gibson), to just right (a 72 Gibson). I would gladly go for the real deal http://www.andybaxte...ails.php?id=687 if I had the £1850 Andy asks for it, as I prefer the maple neck, 4-way switch and more centered neck pickup, but it´s just out of my league. So, has anyone tried this model? Any impressions?
