1. just a thought, if it's the standard 2 band eq you may be missing some flexibility in the mids that you had with the SR5, and also I think the pups in the sandberg will probably be wired in parallel, again giving rise to a dip in the mids possibly. You of course had the option of series with the stingray which gives a healthy dose of low mids aswell as a mid control on the preamp. I'm not sure you'll be able to replicate that with a jazz bass, and equally a stingray won't get you a sparkly jazz sound (this is "IMO", before the flood gates open!). Anyhoo, just a thought. Hope you're well mate. Cheers Pete
 2. Wow, that has to be amongst the best looking bass on here, and the spec, and reputation of acg must make that one hell of a bargain. I'm looking to move a bass on, so can only drool over the pictures! GLWTS Cheers Pete
 3. Plus 1 for the zoom FP02M from me. I've had it for over a year now, and no probs, although I did have to wait quite a long time for it. Cheers Pete
 4. Hi Jassbass, My recollection is of a light bass, and indeed much lighter than my current sr4 2eq. Several years ago I was doing some dep work at a leisure resort and the MD (who was the bass player, but also did keys/sax as required) had a black sr5, and neither of us could believe the difference in weight between the two basses with mine being so much lighter. As a side note, I played it with the stock pickup in, and can't comment about the basslines one. (the original is ceramic, and may have been a bit too much "in ya face" for some hence the change, but it was fine for me!). A great bass, and I wish I had the cash, but............ . GLWTS, Cheers Pete
 5. Ah, Mixed memories here, I bought this bass new from academy of sound in Norwich, and had it for 10 years before trading it. I'd like it back to be honest, but it's the usual deal of being completely skint after christmas, and I only have a japanese prestige ibanez that consider moving on (my other basses are keepers lol!). So, with a heavy heart it just remains for me to wish you good luck with your sale, and I hope you find what you're looking for! Cheers Pete
 6. Having owned a gsr205, sr505, and lastly an sr1205, I can say I gave them a good go, and they all shared a comfort and playability that was superb, BUT, for me none of them convinced me sound wise! Including the sr 1205 which as far as I know has the same electronics package as the BTB 1405. However, as a balance to this I'm a huge fan of the Ibanez bass and currently own a BTB 1005, and it hits the spot for me tonally and playability wise albeit in a larger package to the sr basses I owned previously. To sum up, I like the BTB design, but not the current pups and pre, they're just not for me, but there are many owners out there who I'm sure are delighted with their basses. Cheers Pete
 7.
I think some slight popping is inevitable on toggle switches (due to contact bounce I believe) but make sure that the sound you heard wasn't residual switch cleaner inside the contacts - in other words have you tried it after the spray evaporated fully?
Thanks Howie, I guess that's what was happening. Cheers Pete
 8. Update....... I removed the switch from the cavity and masked the wires and cavity from spray, and gave it another good squirt of the Halfords contact stuff, then blew that through with an air duster, then feeling brave (mainly because I now know that I can get an exact replacement part), I gave it what for with the servisol super 10, and thoroughly wiped the outside of the casing. followed this with the air duster, and re assembled.................Bob's your uncle, and Charlie's your aunt, SUCCESS! quiet as a mouse when changing settings, but a full signal from each of the settings, so I'm a happy bunny. Now to put it back in the box and play my usual basses again lol!!!! Thanks to all that contributed. Cheers Pete
 9.
If it's definitely an on/on/on version here's your chap: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-BLACK-ON-ON-ON-DPDT-FLAT-LEVER-GUITAR-OR-BASS-MINI-SWITCH-EP-0080-003-/331217384685?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4d1e1834ed but there is also just a DPDT switch over version available too! - I 've just bought an on/on/on myself but decided to change from a flat lever pictured to a round end. All parts do them and the part number is EP 4180-003, also in black.
Hi Dan, Thanks for the link. I've bought some contact cleaner from halfords that was recommended earlier as a first try, and it seems I've had some success as the switch makes a good contact in all three positions now. The downside to this is I have now noticed a considerably large POP sound (enough to activate the clip light on my amp) when switching positions (any of the three settings). Now, to be honest I don't remember if it's always been that way, or this is a new development! The POP is loud, and not dependant on the eq settings, or pickup blend settings, but is volume dependant, so I could just turn the vol down when flicking between settings I suppose. I don't know if this is normal as the only other toggle switches I have on my basses either go between active/passive (fender), or Coil tap (sandberg). If any BCers have any insight into the POP noise I'm all ears for an explanation/remedy. Please, and thankyou. (By the way, to answer your first point, yes, it definately is an on/on/on switch, exactly like the one in the all parts link) Cheers Pete
 10.
It's hard to see on their website, but this one is the right spec from an electronics point of view: http://www.allparts....h-dpdt-on-on-on
Hi icastle, Wow, Yes that appears to be the exact one (including the spec stamped into the side plate. Thanks for that, I have bought some cleaner recommended earlier in the thread to try, but if not then I shall get on of the parts you found. Many thanks again Cheers Pete
 11.
I use Halfords own brand Electrical Contact Cleaner spray and have used it inside pots and toggle switches (sprayed in from the toggle side for the sealed units I've encountered) and it's been fine. The can is marked thus "Safe to use on metal, most surface coatings and plastics" and it evaporates fairly quickly.
Hi Howie, Thanks for that, I've bought a can, and will try tonight as a first port of call. Cheers Pete
 12.
Can you post a pick of the iffy one?
Here you go..... Cheers Pete
 13.
Tried cleaning it? Might just need a little Servisol?
Hi Moos3h, I did buy some servisol switch cleaner some time ago for a scratchy pot on an amp, but before using it I read quite a number of articles/posts from all sorts of different sources that stated servisol switch cleaner wasn't necessarily kind to plastics in the long run, so I never used it. Claims about deoxit seem much more favourable, but I can't source that locally, hence me thinking I'd be better off trying to find an exact replacement part. This is proving to be a task too! Cheers Pete
 14.
how many lugs has it got underneath?
Hi Paul, It has 6 lugs. It changes the mid freq from 250/500/1000, and is shown in the images for bartolini pre's that I googled. I'm after the exact style/type. I can get other styles but that's not what I'm after. Hope that helps, thanks. Cheers Pete
 15. Hi Bass chatting repair supremo type people. I'd appreciate a pointer or two in finding a replacement for a toggle switch which controls the mid frequency on one of my basses. The middle position doesn't always make a good contact and can lead to volume reduction, and or crackling/popping. I want to replace like for like, but I can't seem to find the right style for my needs. The switch is on a bartolini 3band circuit and controls the mid freq. I've had no luck so far in contacting bartolini direct, but if it's any help the images of their preamps show the exact switch I'm after ( but prewired to the complete harness). Any pointers on the whereabouts of the exact switch would be much appreciated. Cheers Pete
 16.
I think I'm going to have to get a 5 string version one of these in the new year. I'd like a sunburst, rosewood with tortoise shell pickguard but unfortunately the sunburst model only comes with a black pickguard and it looks as though you can't actually buy spare pickguards for these basses from Fender?
I'm in the same boat, I have a trans wine 2012 5er, and I can't see any pickguards for that model, only the previous model. I want to change mine to a white pearloid one to go with the stingray, and sandberg I have also. I may look into getting one made, but would have preferred a genuine Fender one if they had made them. To the OP, congrats on your new bass, I hope it brings you much happiness. Cheers Pete
 17.
So if they have the same amp module now what is the difference between a little mark and a big bang?
If the changes in power section are true then the difference should be that the little Mark is really a Big Bang head but with no aux in, or headphone out. Hmmm.........
 18.
You're welcome Pete. When I asked about the speakers I was wondering what size and how many? If the design of the speakers has also been 'refined ' then that might explain why you hear a difference.
Ah, sorry, I have a cmd102p (2x10), and a 104hr (4x10, which was the only Italian cab I could find at the time even though I wanted a 2x10hf, but could only find Indonesian ones). Marco said that the drivers probably needed to run in, and to an extent it has improved, but still nowhere as full sounding as the old combo I played. I cant comment on 12s or 15s though. Cheers Pete
 19.
Mine are in CMD121P and CMD121H combos. Both use the same 4 bolt fixing. Definitely not a job to do just before or at a gig though. I gig my 121P with a NY121 cab and they sound great. Have a good one tonight. P.S, If you play quite loud with both input and output at noon, the analogue head gets pretty warm whilst the class D stays much cooler.
Thanks Sparky Mark, This would point to mine being an A/B model, as its quite toasty at the end of a gig I've noticed. That'll save me taking the head out. Cheers Pete
 20.
What speakers did the combo you tried before have?
Hi Sparky Mark, Its some time ago now but from memory there were posts around that time that Said that handle designs had changed, weights had changed, and country of origin had changed but price had remained the same. I had recently bought my combo on the strength of using one three nights a week for a year and mine didn't sound anywhere near as good. The original had b&c drivers in, and after a lot of faff I found that mine did too, but the frame looked different. There was no mention on the b&c site stating that they still made drivers for markbass and to be honest all I got were politicians answers to my straight questions. Cant really tell you more than that. Back to the op though, so do we now have a lm lite, or a big bang head with reduced functionality, ie no aux in, and phones out? I tend to keep amps for 8-10 years so will plod along while it still works, but if it turns out to be a class d its not what I bought! Cheers. pete
 21.
But, do you like the way it sounds?
It's alright. I thought the sound from an original series combo (yellow combo head) that I used on a gig share for about a year was nicer, and I've had many posts privately back and forth with Marco on the sound difference between the two models, primarily concerned about the speaker changes, and move to Asian production with no clear indication as to the changes. So I guess it's a yes, AND no to your question. To me it's important that I get what I thought I'd paid for, and I bought the combo on the strength of the old one I'd used, but I appreciate that to others this isn't so important. Cheers Pete
 22. Oops, just read the first post properly, and I have my answer. My amp was bought in 2012 so I've got my fingers crossed that I have an old one, Cheers Pete
 23.
Here is a photo of two lm3s. 2011 model on the left and a 2013 on the right. Can anyone explain the reduction in the size of the power amp section of the newer one?
could you tell me which one is which? I'll be taking the amp from my cmd102p to see which one is in. For me I'm hoping I have the A/B power section. Many thanks, Cheers Pete
 24.
133 series have poplar bodies
Cool, thanks SRP1977, I was hoping you'd tip up and clarify the wood thing. Incidentally, I don't know what the weight of the U.S subs are but my 133 although nicely balanced is heavy, indeed heavier than my U.S deluxe jazz V, and heavier than my Sandberg Ken Taylor V. Still, its a good bass for the money, and I'm pleased with it. Thanks again Mr StingrayPete1977. Cheers Pete
