1.
Any feedback tbonepete? would be interesting to read. Still love my Amp Three to bits. I have regularly used it in loud rehearsals more or less as a preamp, like this: Bass --> Amp Three --> DI Out --> Crest CA9 power amp --> Mesa Powerhouse 2x12 awesome. As the Amp Three lacks a horn it's sound is always a bit muffled compared to a full range cab like the Powerhouse. But the preamp is just soo good and sounds perfect with the 600 Watts of the amp. This is also an alternative to use it for bigger scenarios.
Hi djaxup, Short answer is that I found it plenty loud enough, but there were shortcomings in the sound for me that I couldn't live with , so it's gone now. I did find the people at AER very helpful though, and if they build what I'm looking for in the future I'll be certain to try them again. This is only my comment, and is in no way a reflection on the quality of the amp . Cheers Pete
2.
Why?
After seeing the thread concerning your Aguilar head I'll keep my reasons off here, but when I get a chance I'll PM you if you really want to know Cheers Pete
3. Oh bugger!, that's another one off the list. I'm looking at replacing my markbass combo in the future but it's increasingly hard to be Interested in what's on offer. Maybe tecamp will be worth a look, not much chance of trying one locally though.............first world problems I know lol! Cheers Pete
4. As per the title....... Is this true, has anybody else heard this? Cheers Pete 😀
5. First proper outing tonight for my amp two, having only used it for smaller duties such as trio gigs and rehearsals etc. Am looking forward to winding it up, although it'll be the first time di ing into a large house system, so the heavy lifting will be done by the house system. Just curious as to the di level to send to the desk.......I'll ask the engineer tonight. Happy days
6.
I thought it was still a class AB power section, but they moved from a linear to switch-mode power supply. Certainly my LM3 hasn't got a big transformer in it, but it's light, sounds great and has been reliable, FWIW.
I was going on the info in a thread about the lm3 redesign started in December last year. Of course I might have misunderstood the thread. Anyway, as the OP is looking for alternatives to the markbass it's a moot point. Cheers Pete
7.
or maybe this: I've had a read through the guide and it seems that Jerzy doesn't use an actual measuring for string height to fretboard. and it makes sence because, from experience, each bass will have it's own sweet spot. He starts adjusting string height close to the desired using with the radious template and then adjust the neck bow. Then he sees if there's any fretbuzz and raise/lower the strings at the bridge. Repeat process until geting to the sweet spot immediatly after buzz stops. Sounds like a good way of doing it.
At page 20 in the guide are two tables giving a range of approx heights for strings. The question still is at what fret are the heights taken from, not what the heights are, or neck relief. I have emailed direct for the answer, but haven't received a reply yet. I'll be sure to post the answer to my question when I get it. Thanks to all who looked, I'm afraid it's one of those "you either know it ,or you don't " type questions. Cheers Pete
8.
This is from the guide, to measure the neck bow. Is this what you're looking for?
No thank you, it was string height measurements, not neck relief, and to be specific, the place at which the measurements are taken. Thanks anyway.
9.
The LM is class AB. As I wrote, I do not intend to bash either class D, AB, D ..... or switching power supplies.
Latest lm3 apparently has been changed to class D, but MB didn't exactly make a show of it,..... More of a stealth change Good luck in your search, Cheers Pete
10. Met up with Dave today in a motorway services (the wrong one I might add, and totally my fault!), What a bang up nice guy Dave is, the bass I had from him was exactly as described, and apart from some odd looks from people sitting near us the transaction went smoothly. I very much look forward to having a go with the latest bass, and hope that Dave will make more use of the one he got from me than I did! Straight forward, honest, punctual, and easy company to boot. Dealing with Dave gets 5stars from me ***** Pleasure to make your aquaintance Sir. Cheers Pete
11. Thanks Ghost Bass, It's looking like I shall have to ask Jerzy myself for the answer to my question, I thought I'd try here first though. I guess you can't get lucky every time eh? Lol. Cheers Pete
12. Hi Jay, Haven't tried the premium BTB, but I did briefly have an SR 1205, and that has the same electronics package. I moved it on in under 3months though as I wasn't happy with the sound, and single coil hum isn't my thing. A big plus was the fit and finish and general playability though, and this has been the case in all the Ibanez basses I've owned. Also there are many many players out there who are happy with the sound from their premiums, so don't discount the bass on my experience. Ps, the SR basses are more readily available it would seem so maybe have a try on one or two to see if you like the pre and pups arrangement. Cheers Pete
13.
With those figures I'd imagine it'd be at the 12th fret though it could easily be the 17th as there isn't anything in it if you were to measure at the 17th as the Fender guide instructs. It's important not to get too fixed up on numbers, they are just given for approximate guidelines. The correct action height should be found for each instrument and each player and not setup to numbers which may or may not suit the player and the state of the frets.
Thanks for the reply, yes I'd also guess the 12th fret, but was looking for the factual answer (someone on here may have already contacted Jerzy with the same question). My basses all have different setups, but one in particular has issues ( not relavent here ), and I was looking to explore this seemingly different method, that is to say all my usual set ups follow the truss rod, action, intonation pup height formula, and this one doesn't. If anyone out there actually knows what fret Jerzy is measuring from in regards to string height please do tell. Please, and thank you, Cheers Pete
14. Hi Basschatters, A question for the well informed, SPECIFICALLY talking about the Jerzy Drozd set up guide, and NOT the many other guides that refer to different ways of setting up your bass, OR personal ways of set ups. Question: whilst looking through the string height section I cant seem to find what fret the measurements are taken from, ie 12th fret, last fret etc, so does anybody KNOW for CERTAIN which fret the measurements are taken from in this method? I would have contacted them myself but Safari (iPad browser) said there was an issue with the sites certificate?. NO BIG PROBLEM if you DONT know, as I've yet to try this particular set of numbers, but I have an errant bass that may benefit from a different set up from my normal ones. Thanks in advance, Cheers Pete
15. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Fingers crossed that you're happy with the returned amp, and glad you're enjoying the " Bunker Buster" lol. A compromise could be the Musicman amps which from recent posts seem to be a small class D Markbass amp in a large amp box, thus pleasing both your band mates, and your back at the same time! Lol. Cheers Pete
16.
I just had a look athe instruction manual for my cmd102p bought in 2006 and it says 20kg. So have they got lighter and then heavier again ?
The traveller 102P is a cab only, whereas the CMD102P is a combo, not sure if you're confusing the two. Apologies if that's not what you meant. My own CMD102P ( Made in Italy 2012/3) weighs more than 20KG, but that's not really a big concern for me,especially as it's just been relegated to back up status. Cheers Pete
17. Hi Chris, Did you get your LMT amp sorted yet?, or are you using your valve monster still ( I was talking to someone last week about the peavey head, and he referred to it as "A BUNKER BUSTER"!.... made me chuckle for quite some time! Cheers Pete
18. A week in, and I'm finding the Amp Two to be a fantastic bit of kit! Super clean, effortless volume, and not a hint of brittleness in the sound. Classy sounding compressor is the icing on the cake for me. Attached pic shows the combo at home, but can't wait to try it out in anger next week ! yay I don't have a beer crate to place under the amp, so my other combo will have to do, although I hope to find something cheaper and lighter to do the raising duties soon !!! hehe. The only downside is the weight, but this slight drawback pales into insignificance when the amp is switched on and does its thing. Very pleased at this end, and many thanks to machinehead for sending me the manual. Cheers Pete
19. That's a lovely bass right there, wish I had the readies for it, but alas, I'm trying to trade for one..... Still, have a bump on me for a great bass. GLWTS Cheers Pete
20. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Thanks for the manual offer, I shall PM you the details. Likewise, I've not boosted the bass as there's plenty already Cheers Pete
21.
These are really great sounding combos. And very loud, while still retaining the core tone. I love mine. The only drawback is the weight. A folding trolley has helped. Frank.
Been having a play with this today and I'm absolutely gob smacked, it's amazing how such a full sound comes from this small box. The sound stays full at quiet volumes too, and that's very welcome. Have you adjusted the hf level on the rear of the amp?, and if so, what level do you have it at?. Mine was an ex demo model, so I didn't get a manual, and can't seem to find one online Cracking piece of gear though, and I'm really looking forward to giving it a blast at gig settings next month. Cheers Pete
22. So, as above I bought an AER amp two today, and for me it lives up to the review and comments on the tube, and various forums. I was after one of these recently in a trade for a bass of mine, but none were forthcoming. A chance visit today to the local PMT saw me hatching a deal with the guys at the shop, and this afternoon I took it home. OMG, how do AER get so much noise from such a small box? Must be some sort of voodoo I reckon, lol. Quickly a couple of points to make are that inspite of its diminutive dimensions it's a weighty little thing, and secondly, there is an amount of hiss from the smaller mid/ upper driver, and this has been observed by others from the "other" forum, but for me it's well within the acceptable range! Other than this, it's all good, a massive amount of gain, and tone shaping is available, the compressor seems well balanced, and a bewildering array of sockets and switches for connectivity are all present, and it came with a nice padded slip cover. I shall look forward to using it at a gig soon, but don't anticipate that my other combo (markbass cmd102p) will be going anywhere. It's just a different kind of good sound, so I have a choice now! Happy amp day for me! Yay
23.
I have yet to see an EBMM bass that has benefited from 'upgrading' its pickup or preamp. But if spending money on devaluing your instrument is your thing, go for it... (At least keep the original parts.)
Hmm, I see nothing factual about this post. I cant see the difference in a lot of things, but that just highlights my inability to see the difference, NOT that there may/may not be a difference! If I chose to do something to one of my basses that I paid for with money that I earned Then that's for me to decide, and also it's my choice whether or not to keep the original parts. To get back on thread though, Jimmi Clarke of this parish, (and youtube) has extensively changed the "innards" on his Stingray, and has a lengthy youtube video explaining whats been done, and sound samples to illustrate the changes made. By the shear amount of aftermarket MM pups from lots of different manufacturers serves to illustrate that many people can see the benefit of "upgrading" the stingray bass. Fretmeister, Jimmi's video is well worth a watch, he's a great guy and a top player too, Ooops, I nearly forgot the IMHO bit, as it's only my opinion, and may not contain any facts
24. German (100%) Warwick Thumb5er (wenge neck brass nut, and frets etc), and a Spector Euro (not LX) 5er, any colour, oh, and the money to pay for them! Hehe!
