1. +1 for a pencil. I put marks on the 5th and 7th fret markers and they wore off as I learned to hear them properly. A week or two and I didn't need them anymore. (and I just put them on again cause I've taken up the DB after a long layoff and needed to!)
2.
Ye cats that GP7's a heejus thing . Still, if it sounds as good as you say... Like Markytbass says, it's really down to just trying as many as possible. I shall just have to go and pester the local music shops. Fortunately, we're well placed for music shops hereabouts...
For those sounds I can recommend a Warwick ProFet 3.2. 300W, £170 odd delivered from Thomann. It sounded great with a 15" EBS cab. Quite heavy, though. Sorted me out for a cheap rig. Or, my new (secondhand) Roland DB500 combo. If you can find one secondhand I thoroughly recommend one. 2 programmable sounds and feels much louder than its 150W.
3.
how about the ashdown perfect 10? Its a belter for 30 watts. 10" cone. Nt too heavy n sounds gd. I jst purchased a 110 tho to go with my 300pro =D
Very happy with my Roland DB500. 150 Watts (sounds MUCH louder) 12" Speaker Portable I'd look around for a second hand combo, they're very cheap at the moment!
4. I'D be well interested but Yorkshire's a bit far!
5.
Yeah, then you went and sold it to me, who knows how long its going to last Zach
Woops!!! (Nervous laughter. . . ) never had any problems, though!
6. I used to have no problems lending my rig, but when you go through the settings, explaining the gain knob and then see the red overload light blinking more on than off through their set, that pisses me off. Then we had some advice from an industry insider type. He said "Imagine that some record company guy is there to see you (unknown to you) and you've lent your kit out, it gets broken, and you've got no gear to impress them through." That made me think twice. I have still lent it, but I've been more wary since. Now I've downsized to a small combo, I'll bring mine to every gig I play!

obbm's feedback
Actually I thought I'd bought an EBS Microbass
another +1 for obbm, 2 cables ordered arrived promptly and are doin' their jobs!
10. Are you not interested in a 15" cabinet? I used one with my PreFet 3.2 and loved the sound. 15s and 2 x 10s go well together!
11.
Look at the picture above for outputs, and google will probably tell you the weight.
Hi, The head has: 2 speaker outs, 1 speakon, one 1/4", one DI out (pre or post EQ), a line out and an effects send. It weighs 11.5kg but I've got it all packed up and would probably be 12 - 13 kg with packaging. Hope that helps. Adrian
12. I get a drum kit, guitar and guitar amp (1 x 12 combo) jazz bass in a agig bag, warwick Profet head, EBS 15" cab and a double bass in my Peugeot 406 SEDAN!
13. Bump for cab being sold and a price drop on the amp. Come on guys, £80 for a quality 300w head? Credit crunch or not, that's really quite spectacular!!
14.
Hey guys, Finally got a working Profet 3.2, and thought i'd do a quick review of it. I am using it with a Warwick WCA 211 Pro cabinet. Pros: It looks great. It is very easy to use Sounds awesome Has a speakon output (which not many do for this price) Cons: Really my only concern is its volume. It is rated at 300W at 4ohms, and it is running at 8ohms with my one cab, so it should be putting out a minimum of at least 150W. It is not much louder than my 20W Stagg practice amp. It has more low end, but i feel this is because of more (bigger) speakers (the Stagg has a single 8"). The amp clips very quickly, and I have to have the gain nob at 1 o'clock. Any more and it will just clip like crazy. There is little volume change throughout the volume spectrum, and I feel it is just an underpowered head for the rated 300W (or 150W in my case). My school's Carlsbro Bass Bomber, with a single 15" speaker and rated at 125W is FAR louder than what I am getting. Resolution: I will most definitly buy another cab (a 4x10 probably) to increase speaker surface area and bring the impadence down to 4ohms. But in the long run, I cant see myself gigging with this amp for very long before upgrading it.
Mine was plenty loud with a 4ohm cab. Probably not the loudest 300w but i rehearsed and gigged it loads with no trouble.
15. So assuming I buy the Warwick ProFet 3.2 +1 for this choice for a cheap, quality, 300W head. I bought mine from Thomann and had no trouble with them. If you wanted to penny pinch even further, you could buy mine, it's absurdly cheap!!
16. That's interesting to know. I'm currently playing a borrowed £385 Gear 4 Music bass that is really hard to play (the action is super high and I don't want to spend any money fixing something that's not mine). I've played double bass before but not for a long time. I've got a restored old German bass back home in Australia which is too expensive to ship and I haven't played for years. I've got the urge now but the borrowed bass is hampering my enjoyment. I've sold some gear and now have about £400 to spend on a new bass but I'm in a bit of a no mans land stuck between rubbish entry level basses and 'decent' used instruments at £1000-ish. It sounds like yours is a good buy, would it be worth spending any extra on their more expensive ones?
17.
2 winds anything else is a waste and goes outta tune.
Has anyone else cut the extra string, thinking smugly to themselves how much more superior they are, then found out it doesn't wind even once and won't hold tune and therefore is entirely wasted and you need to go and buy another string but you're recording and you've only just got enough time so you leg it down to the local (overpriced) music shop and buy another single (overpriced and unmatching) string and ever since have a minor anxiety attack every time you go to cut the extra length? No? Me neither!
18. Hello, I hate to be the first reply and then plug my sale(!), but my EBS 15" would fit the bill. [post="0"]http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=27601[/post] It's not super lightweight but easily coped with small to medium gigs. It's got an adjustable tweeter and will handle 400W. Nice and smooth sound, too. Oh, it's really cheap as it's got a small hole in the speaker that doesn't affect it in any way except cosmetically. Either way, youll get lots of advice. Adrian
19. Hi, Looking for the (gulp) cheap newbie bass and this model came up. Has anyone played a Tatra bass by Rosetti and can they tell me whether it's worth a drive or not?? Thanks. Adrian
20. Thanks Pete, Twas a pleasure!! Adrian
21.
It was mine, and I miss it terribly, superb amp. Leftysteve......thoughts are with your family.
Many thanks for it, it's a fine product!!
