1. Have a look at joinmyband.com or .co.uk or whatever it is, theres always adverts for bassists. Thats the great thing about playing bass - we're always in demand!
2. How come flat isn't in the middle? Is there a general rule as to what "flat" is? Is it quite a way away or near the middle (just intrigued). And I have my cab already - Peavey TX410. I'm pretty much set on the Ashdown 330, too. Tried it out in guitar shop the other day, its beautiful. The only thing was, I couldn't get that kind of dub sound (although, as there are so many variables, perhaps I might if I have more time) - if I did choose, one day, to play bass in a reggae band, could I use an EQ pedal, or would this spoil the 'tube' sound?
3. For me, this'll be my first amp - I have a broad feeling of the sound I like (generally a warm sound, but not boomy), but have only used 2 other amps so far, both very low power (30W and 65W Marshall and Laney respectively). It would be nice to be able to dial in a kind of dub bass tone from time to time (i.e, very, very little mids and highs) but generally I don't use huge extremes, if that makes sense? It would be nice also to have some versatility, but also need to be able to quickly change on stage - a huge 10 band EQ probably wouldn't be great for me, methinks. My budget is also a bit smaller - £200 to £250. 300 absolute tops.
4. Also in a similar situation, but also considering the SS heads TC BH250 and Ashdown's Little Giant. The (330) Spyder is going for £250 from GAK with a free multiband compressor though (anyone know how long these deals last for?)
5. H there, might be interested in this (based in Newcastle) if its still up for sale! What's the power rating of this cab? Cheers, Dom
6. The Beatles - Money (Thats What I Want) The Pixies - Where Is My Mind.
7. There wouldn't be a slight possibility of delivering or posting (at my expense) to Newcastle would there?
8. I don't suppose you'd be able to post it to Newcastle? Thanks, Dom.
9. Hi there, I might be interested in this, but probably won't have the money for about a month - let me know if you still have it then though.
10. Ah, sorry mate, I'm way up in Newcastle! Cheers anyway, Dom.
11. No WAY! I saw you at WOMAD, right? Or am I thinking of someone else?
My latest and so far greatest project; The Bear Beats Band:
12. I'm also looking for a lightweight, short-scale bass. Lightweight is most important, but I really want a short-scale. Unfortunately, nowhere nearby stocks Danelectro, so are there any other light, short scale basses other than the Hofner violin bass and Hagstrom Viking?
13. Serious question - is bumping allowed on this forum?
14. Wish there was something like that here in Newcastle!
15.
Paul McCartney playing a Kay bass (I believe).
He's playing a K5970, as seen in the 1960 catalogue. Produced, undoubtedly, before 1965 - they had a logo change then, and didn't use the K on the triangle on the headstock until the Kay Vintage Reissues came about, which was very recently (after that video was made, for sure).
16. I've found something which may be useful. Teisco was bought out by Kawai, who "discontinued the Teisco brand name for guitars in 1969 (1977 in Japan), but continued to use it for electronic keyboards until the 1980s" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teisco#Company_history This would suggest that the Kay Teiscos are from 1969 or earlier, right? Whereas actual Teiscos, branded as such, may not necessarily be so, but are from 1977 or earlier? Just a guess, and a wild one at that
17.
I'm working from memories 30 years old. Unfortunately, the UK importer for that time (British Music Strings IIRC) seems to have disappeared long before the internet started getting useful so finding definitive answers is a little tricky. What I can say with certainty though, the Kay guitars from the 1960s were of a completely different class to the offerings in the 1980s. The US Kay factory and assets had been sold off and the name was used on the cheapest of the cheap beginners ranges.
I wasn't saying you were wrong, at all - but a search for that model threw up many different results, so people must be getting the wrong model numbers...
Is it this? http://cgi.ebay.com/EARLY-TEISCO-K-2B-JAPA...Item#vi-content
Thats one posh Kay/Teisco! 2 pickups! Quite cool Another funny thing - when I tell people that it was likely that Teisco made my bass, I have to say "Not Tesco, Teisco, T-E-I-S-C-O"
18.
Yes, same model. Working from memory, I think what you've actually got there is a K1-B though, the K2-B was an SG shape with two pickups.
By the sounds of things, no-one actually knows what instrument model theirs is. I was sold this as a "Kay 4" (no such model exists), and a search for the K1-B throws up several different models - each entirely different.
19.
They may not be as old as you think. I was selling these in a music shop back in the mid 80's - rrp was £39.99 IIRC.
The same model? Interesting (but not so cool lol) The guy I bought it from said it was from the 60s, but this was a car boot dealer (as in, not just someone getting rid of stuff just to get rid of it, it was someone selling for profit) so I wouldn't trust what he said 100%.
20.
I have a KJB-1B bass by kay Not bad basses. They made electric basses around the 1960's (i think they were made by teisco) and were primarily an upright bass manufacturer.
I have the same bass! Do you know what year this model was made? I think it's '69, but not entirely sure...Didn't Teisco stop manufacturing stuff in 1969, thus meaning it can't be made later than '69?
