Thats interesting about the 75 pickups i bet they're quite pricey though because they're not off the shelf.
Actually no, they are pretty cheap, 0055230000 PICKUP ASSY 75 JAZZ BASS NECK RRP £42.99 0055231000 PICKUP ASSY 75 JAZZ BASS BRG RRP £42.99 They said as they are not off the shelf, it can be about 8 weeks delievery. They can be ordered through any Fender dealer.

I had one and they are fantastic basses. Hardware is the same as US apart from pickups but I spoke to Fender and you can buy the pickups that come in the US 75 re-issue Jazz. They are not off the shelf items so need to be ordered in special but I have the part numbers if anyone wants them. The build quality is superb. Faultless and the neck on mine was not chunky at all. Amazing basses. I do think they are overpriced these days though for a Mexican bass.
ok, i am craaaappp with speaker cabs and power ratings and what-not. I've got an ashdown MAG-300 EVO II combo with 4x10" cabs. Will my second output from my amp kill this cab if i buy it? EDIT just seen that you've been using a 300 watt head thorugh it
Your MAG combo on its own is probably kicking out 180watts of the available 300watts at 8 ohms. If you add a second speaker as in my MAG 1 x 15, that will then give you the full 300watts at 4 ohms. Hope that makes sense.
Thats a bizarre, but very cool coincidence. I might well have to pop over and try it out, with my Trace Elliot head, if thats ok? I've had mixed results with Ashdown cabs, but a band blew up my Trace 2x15 and frankly that cab was a bit big for me so yours might be perfect - more portable and cheaper than replacing the speakers in my big cab. When are you normally free?
Sure, thats no trouble. Would be really interesting to hear a Trace Head again. I can be free most times. I am also around today if thats any good for you. If not, next week in the evenings is good.
Get a used Fender that plays well and change the things that are not up to scratch. Or save yourself the hassle and just get a Lakland.
HAHAHA gets my vote However, how about this for £500?
I forgot... the original is fretless too! The pitching was nearly as bad as mine which gives it a bit of charm IMHO!
When Paul Webb commented on my version, he said he prefered to play fretless in the studio and fretted live.
Being a huge Talk Talk fan I obviously hate the No Doubt version! For me the playing on the original is far superior. In any case have fun with it, it's great bass line.
I'm with you on that also, nothing beats the Talk Talk version. Big Talk Talk and Paul Webb fan also. If you want a challenge, try learning Living In Another World. I am very nearly there.

Congrats Bilbo and well done. Let us know how it goes.
I agree with Linus,... MM, or Lakland,.... in the ones that ive played are very consistent, and always very well made. my stingray 5 is the best made bass i own...Like Linus said...Fenders are sometimes, very hit and miss..For me Cij or Mij Fenders are always good..Period.. Unless its USA Custom shop, because the one i got is supreme. I have said this before..Japanese made instruments are so well made..they seem to have a great attitude towards quality, IMHO...Why do you think Roger Sadowsky went there for his of shore production.
Yeah great point, Japanese Fenders are excellent basses and usually top quality. If you must have Fender, try and source a Jap one. You'll save some money over a US one and the quality should be excellent.
The letter designations, as used by Fender, refer to the width at the nut, not the shape of the neck. An A-neck is one and one-half inches, a B-neck one and five-eighths inches, and a C-neck one and three-quarter inches. I've never heard of a D-neck Fender. For shape, literal descriptions have always been used by Fender, hence "U shape", "Soft V", "Hard V", "Oval", with additional information such as "ridge-edge" and "round-over" to describe the qualities of the shoulder.
Ah ok, thanks for that, you learn something new everyday. I'm still waiting to learn that keira Knightley really fancies me but so far its taking a while. I can't wait though
Fat neck one of the main attractions in fact. But want a passive instrument, so the Stingrays are out. This is why I lean somewhat to Fender, as so few other brands do "superior" passive basses.
If you want a fat neck and a Fender then the Mike Dirnt is an ace bass. I played one some months back and it sounded superb. Get it in black and put a black scratchplate on it and it will look amazing. Passive also.

I really like a thin flat neck as found on the Duck Dunn bass. Is this known as a D shape neck? My Fender Jazz I had was a little thicker and curvier. Is this known as a C Shape? If so, whats a musicman and precision got and whats an A shape neck?

Its funny as I have come to the conclusion in the last two weeks that after all my 20 years of playing, the Jazz bass is my ideal bass. I started out playing an ESP Jazz which is the best sounding Jazz I had heard (did not know it at the time) but always longed for a Musicman. Eventually got one and loved it. I then moved onto a 1977 Fender Precision simply because it sounded better than the Musicman. I have now changed to play with finger after 20 years playing with a pick and its been a bit of a stuggle. The musicman is ok but the neck is just too chunky for me these days. I also have a Lakland Duck Dunn Precision that come with a Jazz neck and its awsome but the sound is not right for the music I play these days. Sounds awsome with a pick though. The bass that feels the best and most comfortable for me with fingers is my old trusty ESP Jazz. So I am going to use that as my backup and get a Lakland Darryl Jones as my main gigging bass. So a big thumbs up for the jazz bass.

For your money, you could get a Stingray or Lakland secondhand and the quality of these basses are very high. Yamaha also. Fender can be hit or miss although I have never had a poorly made Fender. The Dirnt Fender does have a very very fat neck so be aware of that.
Hah! Who gets royalties for those? Darryl Jones or Adam Clayton? Half-way down? EDIT: I can tell this just won't do for you, will it?
Wow, thanks. Shame it is in the US. I thought about the US 75 Re-issue and its second on my list but I think I just prefer the Lakland. Its cheaper also -
Still waiting for pictures of your wife........
HEHEHE I think she would kill me if I posted a picture of her but if it makes the sale I may be tempted I guess its depends on how desperate I am to get the money for my Lakland. Post picture, get a sale, buy Lakland but then die a horrible death from wife, wife gets Lakland
