I converted to five strings a long time ago, and always fancied a five string stingray but have never liked the larger scratchplate or the big chamfers. Plan is to build a body like the four string in a see-through black stain, no scratchplate or control plate, hence the question about body sizes.

Anybody got any advice about applying a high gloss see-through coloured lacquer to a swamp ash body? The look I hope to achieve is a black high gloss where the grain is still visible. From the experience of my last self-build, I know that this time I will be using a proprietary grain filler (again in Black). Question is, whats the best products to use to achieve the finish I'm after? Ta

A question to all you Stingray owners out there. Is the body on the Stingray V the same shape and size as the body on the Stingray IV? I know that the V has different contouring (the most obvious being the edge chamfer) but other than that, are the bodies the same shape and size? Any help will be appreciated, Ta

Ok folks, I'm not a huge effects user, but an upcoming gig has spurred me on to sort out a pedal board, PSU and to fix down the pedals I've got. In future, I will be using; 1) Akai Unibass (distortion octaver thing) 2) Aphex Punch Factory (compressor) 3) Aphex Bass Exciter (bass exciter type thing) 4) Boss TU2 (tuner) The TU2 and Unibass are relatively new purchases and haven't been gigged before. Using the two Aphex units I tended to go; Bass -> Puch Factory -> Exciter -> Amp I'm thinking that the new layout should be; TU2 -> Akai -> Punch Factory -> Exciter -> Amp What do you more seasoned effects users recon, does that sound about right? BTW the Akai effect output will be going through the PA so only the clean bass signal will be going through the punch factory and the exciter. Any comments will be appreciated.

Timing: the difference between a good bass player and an amazing bass player (and rythmn section too!) I don't think its really about being mathematically right on the beat. For me, it's all about the feel of the song and having the ability to move the beat around that fraction to turn an otherwise mundane chord progression into something lively and interesting and musical.

Ok Egor, my evil plan has taken a step nearer to fruition. First, we buy the black five string version. Then we take our trusty chop saw to the headstock and replace it with a ball end holder. Then we add Status style tuning keys at the body end of the bass. And then Egor, having solved the infamous neck dive issue, WE TAKE OVER ZEE WORLD HA HA HA HA HA
