1.
It's known as the Overwater Original. Just to whet your appetite here's my two... The fretless is apparently the first 5-string Overwater made. Maybe time for an Overwater thread in the porn section?
As far as I recall, this is the Overwater 'C' bass. I almost bought a fretless one off the bassist with Lindisfarne about ten years back, wished I had now. I have a J series 5 string (35", tulipwood body, flame maple neck, rosewood board, 3tsb, Ultrajazz pup's, J-Retro) and its the best bass I have owned by a country mile and then some. I'll be gigging it tomorrow night and grinning sickeningly like a cheshire cat throughout.
  2. I only dep for others, as due to family/work/life reasons I cannot commit to one project full time. As to the special ingredient argument, sometimes a dep can freshen things up and kick the band on a notch but I guess this depends on the quality of the dep.

Thanks again Dave, Another bundle of cables arrived two days after the order. Fantastic customer service, great prices, great product and I particularly like the new bassic bits collars on the cables, nice one! cheers Kev

  5.
hi there i decided to line up the 2 bodies to see if they were the same size and shape, i assume the pictures are the same scale as i scaled the picture so that the fret sizes were the same (the reason they appear different is because the SR5 has 22 frets and the SR4 has 21). As you can see, there are several points where the pictures don't match, i inverted the colours of the SR4 to make the differences a bit more obvious.
Cheers mate, thats excellent. I guess it shows that the two bodies are pretty similar in overall shape with the four being slightly longer in the upper horn that the five.
  6.
i dont think a 4 body would or should be bigger...the neck on a 5 is only about 16mm wider ..a guess based on 19mm bridge spacing... so i assumed in my earlier post that EB would just use a 4 body and chamfer it for a 5 with neck pocket etc personally i prefer the 5 standard scratchplate but thats me no scratchplate sounds pretty cool....are you going to use the chrome plate for controls
Not sure yet. Was thinking of going with the 20th Anniversary look i.e. no chrome plate, but then again I think the chrome plate looks lush so who knows.
  7.
Well does it matter what size the 5 body is if you're just going to be building a 4 style body for it anyway?
Good point especially as I can't find any plans of a Stingray on the net. I will have the OLP Levin body to start from, but wanted to know if there was some other big difference I hadn't already spotted.
  8.
havent got a 4 to compare but i was surprised to feel the body so neat and comfy...the chamfering may be doing that i would guess from a production point of view they would start life from the same jig so that common routing could be done the neck pocket would be bigger and the scatchplate of course just modeled to give a better and more pleasing look to a great bass want one? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=39305&st=0
Thanks mate, but I've just bought this one as the basis for a project I've had in mind for a while now. I converted to five strings a long time ago, and always fancied a five string stingray but have never liked the larger scratchplate or the big chamfers. Plan is to build a body like the four string in a see-through black stain, no scratchplate or control plate, hence the question about body sizes.
  9. Anybody got any advice about applying a high gloss see-through coloured lacquer to a swamp ash body? The look I hope to achieve is a black high gloss where the grain is still visible. From the experience of my last self-build, I know that this time I will be using a proprietary grain filler (again in Black). Question is, whats the best products to use to achieve the finish I'm after? Ta
  10. A question to all you Stingray owners out there. Is the body on the Stingray V the same shape and size as the body on the Stingray IV? I know that the V has different contouring (the most obvious being the edge chamfer) but other than that, are the bodies the same shape and size? Any help will be appreciated, Ta

  12.
LOL...... nee bother man, Kev's Awesome and i'm just helping out to keep them on the Road, while the Bucket's away It'll be good to meet you, and I DO need some advice on wadding for my cab !!! How come you got a BassChat T and I missed out !!!! ??
For cab wadding, try this stuff Wadding. It comes in 1.5m width so about 3m should be more than enough for your 4x10. I'd do the back, sides, top & bottom. Simplest way to attach it is with a heavy duty stapler, oh and don't stretch it tight. See you tonight then

  14. Don't you just love an optimist My rig must have been complete about 100 times in the last twenty plus years, in fact its a bit like Triggers broom, its had 15 different heads and about the same number of different cabinets
  15.
slight mis-spell....... "uses" should have been used (s&d right next to eachother and clumsy bass players fingers) I sold the monster about 2 years ago..... You could have heard my GKRB700 II into my Loud inc cab on Friday but I think you're not going cos i'm playing instead of Kev Get ya'self along..... i'm not that Bad ATB Mark
Hey Mark, Sorry mate, just re-read my post over at the other place and it does sound a bit like that don't it To explain, I've been promising Mr Bucket that I'd turn up to see him play after he was hugely complimentary about my dep at the Office last year, hence the rather cackhanded post. It was not intended as a slight towards you or your playing Looks like I will be there on Friday (surplus brownie points to burn, so I may as well use them before they time expire) look out for a fat bearded bloke in a bright orange basschat tee-shirt!
  16.
If you can get hold of one then surely the PJB T-500 takes first place: http://www.philjonesbass.com/PRODUCTS/AMP/T-500.htm Alex
If that sounds even remotely like my little PJB 'bass buddy' then I want one!
  17.
I Uses an Aguilar DB680 & DB728 Valve Pre- Power with a pair of GS410's (see avatar) for about 6 months. Best Sound i've ever had !! not sure the Cabs were the last word but would have loved a pair of Begantino 410's with that set up. Ultimately though the Weight of that Set Up became a drag doing 3/4 shows a week, as we were at the time ATB Mark
Mark, Are you bringing your rig to the NE Bish Bash then?
  18.
a 750watt valve amp ;o are you trying to kill people with volume?
World domination plan 'b', harness the power of the infamous 'brown note' and then threaten world leaders with embarrassing trouser/skirt moments if they don't pay me squillions of money in all currencies
  19.
If money was no object - what would be the finest valve amp around? (And possibly the cab to go with it) Could be vintage or new.
Well the amp would be around 750w and have say three separate pre-amps (Alembic, Ampeg, SWR) and weigh no more than say 20kg. The cabinet would be an 8 x10 + 2 x 15 + 2 x 12 in a fold-down box weighing no more than 20kg and fitting in a briefcase. Well you can dream cant you

    Running Order
I don't know a lot about this type of thing, but thinking about it logically I'd go - Bass > TU2 > UniBass > Exciter > Punch Factory > Amp
Thanks Ben, I used to run that way, but found that running the exciter after the punch factory added back a little tonal 'width' if you know what I mean,

    Running Order

Ok folks, I'm not a huge effects user, but an upcoming gig has spurred me on to sort out a pedal board, PSU and to fix down the pedals I've got. In future, I will be using; 1) Akai Unibass (distortion octaver thing) 2) Aphex Punch Factory (compressor) 3) Aphex Bass Exciter (bass exciter type thing) 4) Boss TU2 (tuner) The TU2 and Unibass are relatively new purchases and haven't been gigged before. Using the two Aphex units I tended to go; Bass -> Puch Factory -> Exciter -> Amp I'm thinking that the new layout should be; TU2 -> Akai -> Punch Factory -> Exciter -> Amp What do you more seasoned effects users recon, does that sound about right? BTW the Akai effect output will be going through the PA so only the clean bass signal will be going through the punch factory and the exciter. Any comments will be appreciated.
  22.
Mint! Hopefully, I'll be bringing my new cabs... ...if they arrive in time!
Ooh ooh what did you get
  23.
Who are you, and what have you done with Warwickhunt? The turny things are all on one side of that headstock, and there isn't any sign of a 'W' anywhere!
That picture would look lovely on a tee shirt. You know, the type you could wear at a social event, say in Seaton Deleval on say the 1st of March
  24.
I wish someone would buy this. If I had the cash or you wanted a swap for a Corvette $$ 5 string I'd be biting your arm off for it. This is exactly what i am looking for for use with the rock band.
What an absolutely spiffing idea. Me and at least one other NE Basschatter would probably pay money to watch Mr Wateroftyne play a gig on a five string Warwick, eh Mr Hunt?
  25.
So we've firmly established nay PROVED that not only is WoT anti-Warwick but he can't see past 4 strings! The barsteward.
Indeed, and I guess that puts me in the same minority grouping as a warwick owner
