1. Bump for a great price from a fellow Finn 5 owner!
2. I'll add another positive sale - Russ bought a set of green neon DR strings from me. Good communication, quick sale and all-round smooth transaction. I'd have invited him in if I wasn't heading out to rehearsal!
3. Put me down as another 'sell them and buy a 5-string ACG'.
4. Sold in under 10 minutes. Ever had the feeling you underpriced something?
5. Unused set of green DR Neon strings for 6-string bass. Gauges: 30-45-65-85-105-125 They were a gift that would probably serve me better in cash! I haven't been able to find an online UK price for the 6-string set so they're not exactly easy to find. The 5-string sets go for over £40 so grab yourself a bargain!
6. Bought my MTD Kingston Heir 5.Smooth transaction, clear communication, turned up when promised. My first Basschat transaction and it couldn't have gone much better.
7.
I'm definitely going to have to get down to Bass Direct and try some out.
Really? It's quite dangerous. Only lack of funds prevented me walking out with an ABZ5.
8. Thanks, and it is a great price! It's probably worth more but I want to get started on my custom build and can't until I know I have the £300 from this bass. So someone's going to get themselves a bargain!
9. Okay, let's cut to the chase. I need £300 for this, and that price it's a steal! Non-negotiable, shipping extra, but you'll struggle to find a better bass for the money. Form an orderly queue please!
10. Enjoy! Is that the shortscale that was knocked down to a real bargain price? I'm just waiting for someone to buy my for-sale bass so I can get a deposit down on an ACG.
11. "Around 16-20 I don't really care on age or gender. "
12. The received wisdom would be "avoid the Affinity series" - I don't know from experience though.
13. I've played a couple of Classic Vibes and they were both really nice. I really like the look and specs of the VM Jaguar (the black/tort PJ). You can get some cracking deals on used ones, as I did recently. Mine's a 2004 Indonesian-made standard series Precision Special - black with matching headstock and mirror scratchplate, J neck on P body with an extra J pickup in the bridge position. It sounds and feels great - for £90. My only complaint would be that the J is a little noisy (not noticeable in a band mix), the pots a little scratchy (after a few years of use and abuse before me) and the tuners slightly flimsy. For another £150 or so I could turn this from a great backup bass into a true player's bass, i.e. it'll never be worth much if I sell it, but it'll be priceless in use and I'd put it against any Fender.
14. I'm liking that - I think it looks great and osudns pretty decent too.
15.
Drat! You'd think that in an ideal world, 4 string normal tuning, 5 string low moody stuff and a six string would do all of the above.)
The solution to all life's tuning problems - don't play metal, or at least not with guitarists that insist on alternative tunings.
16. Given that the Sub Ray has a smaller Sterling-like, all this seems to offer different is a slightly smaller body. I like the SB14 with its 3-band EQ and the series/parallel/single-coil switching - very versatile.
17.
'mentalextra' . I like Adele, but I think the Skyfall theme is awful! MB1. Adele on Bass??? or Mark King on Bass??? ...Theres only one way to sort this out......................................FIGHT! ...Coat Collected!
Adele on bass, Mark King on vocals. Not that he's a better singer, but he probably won't drag the words out so it sounds like "Skyfooooaaaaal".
18. I'd say the brand is irrelevant if you like the bass and can get the sound you want out of it. For a lot of recent prog-type material a 5 or 6 would be good , both for the extended range and the ability to play across the neck in one position. Having said that, the famous proggers of the past managed okay with 4 strings. In short, play what works for you!
19.
I'm trying to learn this (playing and singing at the same time) and it's proving very difficult.... I will crack it though
His fingerstyle playing is at least as impressive as the slap stuff. I did find it funny how far back in the mix the guitar was when it came to his solo - not too often that the guitar is overshadowed by the bass that much!
20. Welcome, and nice collection! If I were forced to get rid of one of those, based purley on the picture and without playing them, it'd be the headless one or the violin bass. Maybe what you actualy need is more basses...
21. Before I'd finished reading the first post I thought "pickups = heart". Strings as vocal chords?
22. I've not been playing bass long enough to have taken an extended break. I suppose I'm fortunate that I do other thngs within the churchband, so although I mainly play bass I could be playing lead or rhythm guitar or singing from one week to the next. That way I never get stale.
