Completely agree, the size will certainly put a lot of folks off. I tinkered with mine for quite a while and then watched that video, that first tone he gets, which he describes as ‘just a little bit of crackle on top of the string sound’ just sounds so good. I’m actually messing around with some pedals now and thinking that for this weekends gig I may take the Darkglass X Ultra off my board and pop the Ashdown pedal back on. I’ve seen them sell for as little as £25, which is just crazy for how good they can sound

Still prefer mine to all the Darkglass X variants I've owned and sold. Being an inveterate tinkerer I've long been planning on doing my own version in a smaller enclosure, 1590BB portrait max, preferably 125B/Boss sized. Just getting the time is the problem!

A recent, small but very nicely formed addition to the practice rig - the Monique performs beautifully with a passive Wilcock, though I still prefer the Hellborg with actives

I know fuzz is a very subjective sound for each user, ive been through heaps of them in the past. I always steered from the mxr after reading a few negative reviews..... What a fool! This thing sounds sublime (especially with the Alpha omega combined), obviously peoples mileages may differ but this is the sounds i had in my head 🎉.

    Highly recommend.

Straying from the black and blue aesthetic Dan?

Nice. Apparently the Bass Fuzz Deluxe is designed in collaboration with Fuzzrocious, and they know how to make a good fuzz.

I think that was the Rat based Bass Distortion, was it not?

How long does it take for the PCB's from Effects Layouts to arrive from the States?

Ordered on 5th, arrived today. Not too bad given the state of the planet...

Probably be a year before I even look at them though!

I'd love to do one of those. Do you have a schematic for your PSU?

When they arrive I'll let you know!

It caught my attention, but I ended buying a different PCB as I understood the Alembic was based on the old Acoustic 360 preamp (went down the rabbit hole on this one trying to find Larry Graham!) so I bought the PCB for one of these: http://www.lynx.net/~jc/pedals360.html

But I've never built a single sided board before so it's sat in my todo pile for a long time - other peoples build threads seem pretty hairy compared to a through hole PCB build.

I'd be interested to hear any experiences!

Have to agree with @LukeFRC, the Alembic is based on the Fender Dual Showman preamp.

  9. Busy while there... Built B3K, Vintage Microtubes and EQD Sea Machine clones and a Dunwich designed N.E.W. Bass Overdrive from GCI in the last month or so. While I like the Darkglass thing in moderation, 2 on the board and an AO900 amp is a bit overkill, so I have an Aion Maelstrom kit coming to cover both B3K and Vintage territory. Modulation isn't my thing but the Sea Machine might hang around for a while.

REALLY like the Dunwich Bass Overdrive (Boss ODB-3 based). So much so I've ordered 3 other Dunwich clone PCBs from effects layouts for myself - Volt Thrower, ODB and Wizard Fuzz.

  10. The Behringer is perfectly acceptable. A great sounding, cheap alternative to the Sansamp. Virtually the same circuit, just cheaper components.

Add a used compressor pedal (or Zoom multi-fx) and you've covered pretty much every angle.
