  1. Well... I wouldn't for one second suggest anybody does anything sketchy... BUT...

There are ferries between EU (Dublin) and the UK (and roads but let's not get too political)... Just comes down to how far you're willing to travel!

  2. The 2 best B strings I've played, I own. A Vigier Excess 5 and a Spector Euro LX 5. I'd give the edge to the Spector if you twisted my arm. Only have GAS for more Spector's now...

Honourable mention to the Stingray 5 I had in the late 90s which had an OUTSTANDING B string.

I've tried a few including custom builds from Shuker and ACG, Dingwall AB1, Fender RB5, MM Bongo, Lakeland, Sire... None were awful but I'm coming round to the idea that stiffness of the neck is rather more important than scale length to a good B string.

Mine, even with the HAZ-03 units in, don't like the 2.4 GHz wireless NUx bugs.

Interesting... I didn't go with the HAZ-03, instead opting for the supplier who advertises his version on the Spector Bass Nation FB page. I'll see what it's like when I get it fitted. Been sitting a while so about time it was in there. After next weeks hols perhaps!

  4. My Euro 5LX really didn't get along with my Boss Waza Air wireless headphones. Made a VERY similar noise...

Have you tried turning the tonepump preamp down? Depending on the age of the bass there is an internal trimmer control on the preamp. Worth a look and if it's there turn it down to just below half way.

I've bought a HAZ labs clone preamp to put in mine when I get around to it!

Did you have a schematic for this please?

Schematic and chassis layout are quite freely available online if you search for Brown Note D'lite. It was a kit build.

A guitar playing buddy who'd been through (conservatively) £20k of amplification in 5 years at that point said it was the best amp he'd ever played so I was pretty chuffed at that...

I like the Paradriver more than the BDDI or the VTDI but as far as I know there aren't any clones of the paradriver.

The Begringer ADI21 is a Paradriver clone

Hm I had a bass with a flat top and binding and it hurt my forearm when sitting. It doesn’t look like the ones with binding have an angled bit… I know the ones without binding do. How did you find it?

I’m only looking out of idle curiosity tbh.

Playing fingerstyle isn't a problem. Using a pick isn't particularly comfortable, at least not the way I do it!

@Bigwan and anyone with a Roger Glover sig (with the binding) - is there a forearm cutaway or is the top flat?

Depends. Mine doesn't 😭... The last one sold here did.

    May be selling mine btw.

Great to see him building instruments again. A batch of 5. I wonder if these are effectively prototypes and there might a be cheaper Made in China version in the not too distant future. I’d be interested in that!

They're not doing import basses any more...

  10. Recently bought a GK PLex preamp from Paddy. Possibly the most useful bit of kit I've bought in many a year! And the transaction was smooth as the proverbial. Wouldn't hesitate to deal again!

  11. I'm a 2 tuning peg man on all my basses and it's always worked for me, although that can leave a lot of excess on the G string tuner on a P bass... When you talk about lining up silks I think "there be dragons"... You're only a step away from wanting all your tuning keys lining up...

  12. What do you call cheap? I bought a used Westfield P bass for 20 quid locally a few years ago. Perfectly serviceable with a setup that I did myself.

You'll be able to find a multitude of named used basses for under £100, all of which will be a better bet that something from DH Gate. All it takes is patience.
