So you went with the RFTs, nice huh. I told you you wouldn't be disappointed.
thanks! I know what yer mean but. telling me to 'look around' is like saying 'go find a blade of grass in that field'. like, how do I know what they'll sound like until I use them? I'll just copy you, and then if I'm not happy it'll be your fault
haha, ok. If you're looking for a cleaner sound, i don't think you'll be disappointed. You can still get some gain if you turn it right up, from about 3 o'clock.

Which cabinets do you use with your Orange Terror Bass 500?

Aguilar DB210 (great cabs). I also used to use an Orange AD200B with it. -
Aguilar (rig) DB410 on later live right now. Lana del Rey appears to be in her soundcheck outfit.

Ash seems a great guy. A plesure to deal with and to talk to. Transaction was no problem at all.

Watford valves. But look around and see what's out there.

I have been wanting to do this for ages and recently, i did. I wanted a cleaner, yet still fat sound. I always found the OTB to break-up too soon. As i've said many times before, the OTB imo is the fattest sounding non-all valve bass amp i have tried. Having also owned the AD200B, it doesn't disappoint. Originally, i thought i might just replace the V1 with a 12AT7, but i ended up replacing both with 12AT7s. I decided on a pair or East German RFT 12AT7s. Loads more clean headroom now, before any break-up sets in. Nice and fat too.

A while ago, out of curiosity, i hooked up my Kustom Defender V15 (guitar) combo (EL84s 4w/15w) up to my Aguilar DB210 and it sounded pretty good. I put that down to the simple valve path and the amazing cab. Stuck it on 4w for break up and 15w for more clean headroom. The amp also has a cool 4 position bass response switch, American <-> British. It's not bad just plugged straight into the amp too, for home noodling/practice.

Did you set the ohms switch on the OTB to match the cab(?) not that that would have neccessarily smoked it.
-
I once played through some big, knackered 80s looking Peavey head, through an Ashdown 4x10 and it was pretty good.

You could buy my Orange BT in the amps/cabs sale thread.

Hello, I'm [s]selling[/s] my 500w Orange terror bass head. It's in excellent condition, as i have hardly used it. No issues. It's all stock and it comes complete with its Orange carry case and the original box. Fantastic, powerful little amp, that i just no longer use (because i don't use any bass gear anymore). This is the fattest/thickest sounding non-all valve amp i have played. IMO more so than Ampegs & Ashdowns, that i have also owned over the years. It's not too far off the AD200B for beef, which i also owned a while back, although the overall tone doesn't match the AD200B IMO. But this size/weight/portability is a great trade off.

Controls: Volume, Bass, Middle, Treble, Gain, Active/Passive Switch
Features: Switchable Impedance 4 or 8 ohms * Direct Out *
Output: 500 Watts RMS
I'm asking £WITHDRAWN for collection (central London). I'd rather not post just yet, but if it came to it, i would have to add on significant postage. I'm not looking for any bass gear trades, thanks. Pics now added. T.

You have a point. Perhaps holding on to the bass is a good idea (it's a fine example). I was just thinking it could be turned into a bit of gear i'd use more often. But as it's only the one bass, it might as well be a good one. Maybe selling my amp/cab set up only, is the way to go.

I haven't played my bass in anger since i split from my band, about two years ago. I kept my gear, in case i decided to move on to another band on bass, but that hasn't happened. Instead i've been writing my own material (on guitar). I am after all, originally a guitarist (not one of those) and very much enjoy playing. My aim is to record some of these tunes and maybe find a collaborator to do something with them. I already put my Aguilar DB210 cab up as a feeler, but now i'm thinking of selling my head and US P-bass too and using the money/or trade for guitar/studio gear. I might then just pick up a cheap squier bass for recording purposes. When i look at it now, this seems like perhaps the right thing to do, as i think i gave it enough time to consider. I only know that if a while down the line i needed pro gear again, i would regret having sold my bass gear. Has anyone else done this? Any thoughts? T.

Yes, i noticed this a while back now. Wunjo are starting to take over the street. I actually think Denmark St is getting better now. I've also noticed that prices on some equipment is quite good. For example, in Regent Sounds, (yes i know it's guitars) some of the Fender amps and guitars are the same, or in some cases, less than internet prices.
