1. Many thanks for the response, D'Addario. Makes sense what you say about the packaging. I'm having them delivered to my work address. I'm not in work today, so they should be waiting for me when I go in on Monday. Hurrah!
 2. So now I discover Status aren't selling halfwounds at the moment. As far as I can tell from a quick google, only D'Addario are making halfwounds now. Unfortunately my trusty Fender has developed a fault with the jack socket. So since I'll have to take it in for a repair, I might as well get them to do a set up at the same time (about time it had one). So I'll get them to put some new strings on. I've sent off for some D'Addarrios - nearly three times the price of the old Status strings, so they'd better be bloody good.
 3.
Of course there are much better WP numbers than MS (IMO) like Land of a 1,000 Dances and 634-5789 but I've yet to see any band cover these!
I was briefly in a band that covered 634-5789. We only played it once, at an Open Mic, but it went down pretty well. All the audience knew it, they just hadn't heard it in a while. So I think it would have been a great one to do. The band never got off the ground though, but that's another story and probably another thread.
 4.
Dandelion wins with 'The Champagne Charlies' who are performing their maiden gig this Thursday! Cheers all for some cracking suggestions
Nice one! :-)
 5. Interesting. Thanks for all the feedback, Colin. I'll probably give Status another go next time I change the strings (so that'll be in about a year then, lol ). But if there are any problems then I might have to start looking elsewhere.
 6.
I quite like them bright, I'd rather take the brightness away than struggle to add it. Just a personal thing. All a bit haphazard at the moment, I thought things had been sorted!
I guess for me it's a bit like buying 'pre-faded' jeans. ( See 'Ripped Jeans' thread in OT). :-)
 7.
So having read this I thought I'd better get on and change them, oh what a surprise, two A strings and no E!! Very disappointed!! Left a message on their answerphone and an email on the way. After many years of great service I'm a bit underwhelmed. Previous to this about 2 months ago I ordered a set to do a last gig before I went in for a major op. A week later and a day before the gig nothing. I emailed and Rob emailed back that he thought Dawn would have been in touch to say they (DBE 40-125 r/w) weren't in stock. No money taken so no problem but I just wanted that little thing before an enforced lay off. Now I'm fit and ready I want a fresh set to get started again!! Grr!!
How disappointing. :-( Re: the delivery time - they always used to come within a couple of days! The last set I ordered was just before Xmas, so I was expecting it to take a bit longer. Dawn phoned me the week before Xmas to tell me they were likely to be delivered between Xmas and New Year. She had noticed I had put a works address as the delivery address, and wanted to check that I would be there to receive them. Asked if I would prefer them to be delivered to home address. In the end I arranged for them to be delivered to work after New Year. All of the above I thought was great customer service! So I when they duly arrived I was a bit surprised by the packaging and disappointed by the tone. Not that there was anything wrong with them if you like a bright sound. But it wasn't the tone I was after, and had come to expect from the Status Halfwounds. (They are fine now, btw, after 5 months of 'playing in') :-)
 8. I wasn't that bothered about the packaging, but I thought it was odd that it coincided with a change in the tone of the strings. I did wonder if they had been returned by another customer. Especially with the guage written in the packet in biro.
 9. Well I like Sweet Home Alabama! :-0
 10.
Have done.
Let us know what she says.
 11.
Whats your point? Are people not allowed to like this song because other people dont?. And going to a blues Jam must be like playing Mustang Sally all night to a room full of these bass players anyway. Give me MS any night of the week over 10mins long blues w***s.
My point is to take the piss out of an old mate. :-)
 12. Yep, same thing happened to me when I ordered my last set of Status hotwire strings ( this was last December). I thought it was odd. And I didn't like the tone when I first put them on. Far brighter than Status halfwounds used to be.
 13.
Yes, alright. It was me. A girl got up to do some singing, had a nice soulful kind of voice and had called out Chain Of Fools. To me it was a natural progression to move on to Mustang. In my defence, it was the ONLY time the whole night that any of the few punters present got up to dance. I've always said that on the rare occasions i play it I always enjoy doing it and last night was no exeption. Rather that than another rendition of Stormy Monday etc. The day I'm ashamed of trying to get a bit of atmos going and entertain folks is probaby the day I hang up the bass for good.
Ha ha, he admits it! I think on the whole that BC is inclined to forgive you And I will admit to playing Hey Joe at the same jam. But in my defence, they made me do it m'lud.
 14.
Hey, if pretty girls get up to dance, who am I to say them nay? Follow this with Hoochi Coochi Man!
Don't worry, someone else had already done that! :-)
 15. An eminent BC member rocks up to my local Blues Jam last night. He gets up and plays a couple with the regulars. Then HE ASKS to do Mustang Sally!! I think he should now be given the opportunity to come along here and explain himself. And to beg forgiveness from the BC collective
 16.
Just reading this thread and it occurred to me that in my current band I only use the D twice. A two hour set of covers and I hardly touch it. Mind you, I don't use the G at all...
The G string is only there for playing All right Now.
 17. Take comfort from the fact he'll be out of a job soon, when everyone has smart meters.
 18. And the lemon sponge was delish! Thanks for organising it all again, Si.
 19. A lovely afternoon. Great to talk bass to a few like minded people.
 20.
I'm sure they won't be worrying their pretty little heads about it. I'll get my coat.......................
What was that? Sorry, I was just looking at some kittens.
 21.
Both. It's terribly modern to be offended by every little thing but there is something to be said for having a certain degree of robustness, to the point where one doesn't need to feel the need to try and censor what others say so that they can feel better. 'Guitard' may seem mildly offensive to some since it's obviously a derivation of 'retard', but I wouldn't break too much of a sweat about it, we're all grown men here.
Except for those of us who are grown women. I really ought to post more! :-)
 22.
This sounds Shakespearean speak to me! You are still an actor!
Haha. The aforementioned play in the Botanical Gardens was a Shakespeare as it happens.
 23. Bah humbug, I hate performing in the cold. When I used to act a bit I have been coerced into doing a couple of outdoor performances and they were always chilly affairs. And as a punter I really don't enjoy outdoor events unless the temperature is positively Mediterranean. I remember being duty bound to go and see some friends in a play at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. It was bloody freezing and I retreated to the tropical plants hothouse for the entire evening, only emerging to give them a round of applause at the end. Luckily, in my somewhat limited musical career, I've never been in a band that's been invited to do an outdoor gig. The whole idea would fill me with foreboding. As well as the inevitable cold, there's the risk of electrocution if it rains. And it probably will rain. I guess if the rest of the band wanted to do it, I'd feel duty bound to. But I'd probably moan a lot and they would all hate me All hypothetical of course, as I'm not even in a band at the moment :-(
 24.
Hi, I've only been playing a couple of months but will be heading down work permitting.
Hope you can make it. You a sure to meet people who will interest and inspire you. I went to my first Bash (the South East one) when I had only been playing about 6 months. I was somewhat terrified, but found it a very useful experience. I've been playing 6 years now. Can't believe it's been that long! Basschat has been an amazingly useful resource in that time.
 25. Great story. Keep us posted with how it works out.
