2. I use gstrings and it's now replaced all the other tuning widgets I've got lying around. Success with bass will somewhat depend on the quality of the sound / mic on your phone I imagine.
 3. Sketch (Lynx, 23 Skidoo) Jeremy Kerr, ACR Simon Underwood, Pop Group, Pigbag Dave Allen, Gang of Four, Shriekback
 4. I can't post an ACR link without including this one. With just a hint of chorus, bass is near perfection in a beautifully layered mix. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQLTOGVld8A
 5. And whilst we're in the eighties; I can listen to the bass on this again and again, preferably on a good hi-fi. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hn7bZOm9QY
 6.
Another cracking tone and line:-
Truly superb; I much prefer the GI-FU incarnation of that track (those with adhd skip the 50ish sec intro). 7. I've been obsessed with the bass tone on this for over thirty years now. Simon Underwood, via Dennis Bovell iirc. Pure dub funk genius.
 8. NIce vid! thumbs up for the nod to Frank Sidebottom
 9. I don't think freeview / freesat run iplayer unless you've internet plugged in too. But I've already set up my HDD recorder to record the whole series from Fri so I don't have to think about it.
 10. Aaah - that'd explain the well synthy sound he was getting from it
 11.
And they repeat everyflippingthing else (unless I want to actually watch it)
Ahh - I'll bet you can blame PRS / mechanicals for that. Just when talent wants to be marketed liberally, their own "supporting" organisation's bureaucracy stops them Like with that stupid live music law in small venues.
 12.
So here I am lounging on the beach in Naxos
Nice! I had my honeymoon there exactly this time last year. Make sure you have a bite at Maro's. Lovely down to earth place with brilliant food and service. It's on the roadside up behind St George's beach just along from the court square.
 13.
as long as they repeat it in the week for musicians to watch
iPlayer? Hard Disc recorder? VHS recorder?(!)
 14.
like this? http://youtu.be/BTBFw0Rn0CA
I remember that one.
 15.
just do the 45 minute show on a tuesday and friday please.
They need the few days to do the edit, pick the best performances and remove the live fluffs. I think it's best that way. Nothing worse than being in a band with one-big-3-minute-chance and fluffing it without any recourse. Funny to watch, but not so nice for the act... Having said that, I miss the utter chaos of the Tube
 16.
I really enjoyed the act called Little Dragon. Did you notice the bass player
I posted about him in the bass guitars section. But it probably belongs here. It looked like he was playing an Overwater by Tanglewood classic J. Anyone confirm?
 17. Now that Jools Holland is back on the telly, I engaged in a little bass spotting. I tend to ignore the Precisions and Jazzes and watch out for more obscure stuff. It can be pretty difficult to spot what's being used as vision mixers rarely spend more than half a second on the bass. Last night I *think* Little Dragon's bassist was using an Overwater Tanglewood Classic J. I'll have to watch it again on Friday to confirm. Any other good spots?
 18. If you're on a Mac or Linux, I suggest you give Ardour a spin. It's world class software and comes with everything you might want for a studio, whether home or professional. Also has a very friendly user base. I started off with Reason and moved onto Ardour a couple of years ago having messed with ProTools for some sessions. Haven't looked back.
 19. But then you're back to square one - decent audio is the easy bit
 20. Sound qual is great, isn't it. At 1080 it's not looking stellar to be honest. Needs substantially more stage light, imo. On the other hand, with all these clips the easiest method to look pro by far is to get the bleedin thing on a tripod. Do that & you're halfway there, whatever the visuals
 21.
Took a look at the zoom on you tube
Very impressive. Looks like there's always a very decent amount of stage light. It'd be nice to see some footage from someone other than the manufacturer. Did you find any? YouTube conversions won't introduce artefacts in my experience - it's pretty faithful. The Amazon reviews are worth a read through http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zoom-Q3HD/dp/B004DIL50Y
 22.
I have to admit the stage was not well lit and I think in a big gig situation I would have got better results
Another trick is to crop to mimic the Panavision format to give a true Hollywood look. This fills the stage and loses the dark noisy bits. Use an aspect ratio of eg 2.20:1 rather than 16:9 or 4:3. Very easy to do in Premiere or whatever you're using. On YouTube, you'll just get black bars top and bottom which is a much cooler look than noise. It's amazing how useful even 16:9 is for filling the stage. Old 4:3 would always get dark and noisy tops and bottoms .... or you'd miss out the bass player stage left or right
 23. Thanks Lfalex, that's a pretty good overview. @ Ou7shined
The most fundamental thing to remember though is that with a passive circuit the rule of thumb is that you can only remove frequencies (tone) but with an active circuit you can boost and cut frequencies (as defined by the circuit) giving the player an expanded pallet to play with
but surely you can boost & cut frequencies at your amp just as well ? It's just a couple of steps away & no PP3 to die on you or leak horribly?
 24. I suppose part of it depends on the quality of the pups. I mean, with active, you could probably cover some minor deficiencies. And there's the question of outright output. There's no question that my Tanglewater Classic J is on the quiet side. Plenty loud enough, mind.
 25.
I have owned 6 bases and all were/are passive. I do have an active Hohner b bass but thre electrics are knacked so i have never had a chace to play it (probably a lesson there somewhere )
Exactly my thinking at the mo': active = more to go wrong over time And as Fender73 implies, you could easily end up with double twiddle-fiddle issues on your guitar vs what's going on at the amp (not to mention the desk). I prefer things simple, I think. But I wouldn't mind hearing some good arguments for active. Could still be convinced...
