1. Lovely looking bass. I'd be interested if you were to shift the decimal point a couple of places to the left in the price, to sayyy £28.20?
2. Got one of these - great pedal. These work with a Boss power supply and you'll need it too 'cos it eats the batteries.
3.
Im in the market for a second bass soon and I will be looking at G&L, Cort or Tanglewater.
That's funny, I've been looking at G&L stuff too. Quite likey the look of the L2000. Noticed their website has a very tasty J Bass with some nice colour options. I know practically nothing about their playability though.
4. Intriguing. Can't decide whether I like it or not. It's like a Tele Custom that's been fed Miraclegro.
5. Allo, found the pages a bit clunky in loading, but the site looks grand. Might pop down and see you guys at the Ferry.
6.
A while ago I had 2 4003's, one with SD pickups and one completely stock so I had the chance to A/B them. The SD's made the rick sound too muddy, with none of the lovely trebbly balls that we all love about rickenbackers. If I had to describe them in one word it would be cheap. They sounded cheap. Keep it stock and have a fiddle with your EQ.
Or buy a 4004!
7. Played a gig at King Tuts one night. Pretty important for the band, couple of small labels down having a sniff. First single on the cusp of release. A mate was helping us out doing roadie/tech type stuff. I rather foolishly left my bass unattended after tuning it to get a beer (this was before I had the a tuning pedal) and he comes in the dressing room and thinks he’ll be helpful by tuning the instruments. Anyway, band eventually troops onstage and starts the first song, a big crashing intro in A. It immediately becomes apparent that I am tuned to G#, D#, A#, F whilst everyone else is in normal pitch. Bit of a disaster really.
8.
As far as the "Fender factory" idea's concerned - sort of. Tokai Gakki have their own manufacturing facility in Japan and along with Dyna Gakki, they manufacture CIJ (not MIJ) Fenders. According to what I've read, Tokai-built Fenders are home-market only so you won't find many over here if that's true.
Jon, where were the MIJ Fender's made? I've got a '94 MIJ Jazzmaster and it's pretty stunning in terms of quality.
9. +1 on the different challenge thing. I've only ever played in originals bands, and in the last year or two I'd felt I'd hit a bit of a wall in my playing and my playing was (I felt) getting a bit sloppy as a result. So I joined a covers band about four months ago - I figured that learning other people's lines (which is how I taught myself to play in the first place) might help me break through and go somewhere else. No idea if its worked yet, but its certainly got my chops together as a lot of the time we're learning new stuff a few days before we gig it. Dunno if this is something that might work for you.
10. I have a Digitech Bass Synth pedal that does the inverted wah thing and with some judicious twiddling of the EQ knobs on the bass and amp, it's not a million miles away from this in sound.
11. I've used Rotobass a few times when I've been skint - they're about 12 quid a set at my local shop. They really weren't too bad IMO. Linky Not a huge amount of choice in gauge but the most common are well covered.
12. Hi all. My name's Rory. Been playing the fat strings for 19 years (can it really be 19?!). Been lurking here for a wee while but thought I may as well take the plunge and start posting! Play currently in two bands; one original, and one that does covers stuff only. Spend most of the time trying to wear the frets out on my 2008 Fender Jazz 70's Classic, but also currently sporting in the arsenal the following: 2005 Rickenbacker 4003 MG 1992 MIM Fender Precision (was Arctic White, but is more of a nicotine yellow now) Squier Precision Special in Satin Pewter Metallic with a fretless neck. Looking forward to sticking my tuppence worth in.
