As a professional IT guy, it would be easy for me to feel all superior when people come to me for help/assistance, but in all my professional career I've been at pains to make people feel at ease and not stupid (even when they open with "You probably think I'm being stupid but..."). I don't even smirk when I do one of those annoying IT guy one button press fixes ("You mean this button here?). No-one likes a dick. Even less, a dick that you're forced through circumstance to have to deal with. My predecessor at my current employer was anecdotally a bit of a dick. That made me look even better. Seven years on people still comment on how approachable I am compared to him There's really no need to be a dick, I don't get the "if you deal with idiots long enough you'll resent them" angle. I worked in bars until I got fed up with drunken idiots and their highly amusing (to them) antics. So I quit working in bars. If you can't do customer service correctly then you're in the wrong job.

I just use a single 4ohm 4x10 which is stupidly overrated for my amp. 500W into a 1200W cab = no problem.

Can anyone recommend a decent bridge for a 5 string flat top?
neepheid replied to Scotticus's topic in Repairs and Technical
I'd throw the Schaller 3D5 into the potentials: Like the Hipshot it gives you string spacing adjustment, but on the other hand it doesn't have through body stringing. Very nice bridge though, I have a 4 string one on one of my basses. -
Apologies if it's buried in the thread somewhere, but does anyone have an accurate weight for the HB/Redsub combos? I'm not sure if Thomann are quoting the boxed up shipping weight.
It won't be that accurate but I'll get mine on the bathroom scales in a bit, the head's out of the cab just now (used it with my 4x10 at a gig last night) but once I have it all back together again I'll let you know what I find out.
braced ply? looks quite thick as well. also looks like it might be the same speaker-starting to look like the best bargain around. thanks for going to the trouble of taking the internal shots neep
No worries, I just wanted to get to the truth. I forgot I'd be able to see in the side vents - yup, double thickness of ply for the sides.
Everyone crap except for you..? I've been in the same situation. You should either 1) Tell them they're rubbish and leave, or 2) Find some pretext to leave... and leave. IMHO 2) Is better really - what's the point of 1) if you're leaving anyway?
No, it's not like that. Behavioural and procedural issues rather than musical.

How was my gig last night? Not good. I have no desire to go into details publicly, but a band discussion will have to be had in the near future Why does just typing that make me feel like the bad guy? Uh-oh, Mum's mad, bass player's stepped out of the shadows and asked for a band meeting - must be bad.

I have a Yamaha BB614 permanently stationed at my work, on a stand in my office (I have an office to myself). I use a Tascam MP3 bass trainer and put the output of that into a computer 2.1 speakers, subwoofer does a job well enough for practising.

I have had a guddle about inside my RedSub to answer some questions. 1. Speaker 10LB075-8-R - I can't find an exact match for this code on the site linked, but the start of the code is compellingly similar to the one which it is suggested is used in the Promethean. 2. Build materials It's not chipboard, it's not MDF, it's ply. At least the front and the porting is. Sorry, but I'm not taking any further to bits than this, I've got a 5 year warranty to think of
-
Have you seen them? The Promethean has a lighter more refined construction whereas the RS is built like a tank. edit : Haha beaten to it. Typing fast on my phone is not my forte. Where did you get the pic Matt?
I saw it during my research into whether or not to buy the RS/HB amp. Took a minute or two of googling to find it again, but I knew I had seen a side by side pic before.
-
My money is on the cabs being identical.
Impossible - they're different sizes for a start. The Promethean is front ported, the HB/RS is rear ported. Anecdotally, the HB/RS is heavier than the Promethean. Damn, I should have waited to see how much money was being put on the table

What to expect from a Gibson bass? Derision from your peers, perhaps... Seriously though, in general expect a chunky neck, thick humbucker sound and "what's that?" type questions at gigs.

Anyone ordered from basspartsresource.com ??
neepheid replied to Twigman's topic in General Discussion
It's been a while but I've had stuff from them before and never had a problem. -
Why do people go on about upper fret access. I can get to 1-12 un hindered. Thats me covered.
What's the point in them being there if you can't get at them?
-
Wow, that's even worse dusty end access than a Thunderbird. Never though I'd see that in a modern day bass, albeit a retro design. Wilfully perverse, not much thought gone in there. The result of a 5 minute "what if..." chat over a cup of coffee. Can't say I'm impressed.

Techy question - Bass into laptop running youtube
neepheid replied to FlatEric's topic in General Discussion
I thought that you shouldn't really get latency unless you're doing something to the audio input - adding an effect or amp sim or something? I never used to get latency when simply monitoring my line-in. I did get latency when I started using VSTs (without my nice interface)
Some onboard sound is simply awful for recording latency and treats monitoring/recording as one and the same process. -
Are the white horse 5110, the reb sub 5110 and the Harley Benton all the same bass amps? also would this amp be suitable for my DB cheers Richard
1) Yes 2) Maybe - buy it from a place that allows you to return it if you're not happy.
This is all good stuff! Hi Neep! What USB thing do you use? Cheers.
I use an E-MU 0202 - http://www.creative.com/emu/products/product.aspx?category=610&pid=15186 I think it's discontinued now, replaced with the 0204. It only has a single mic preamp, but it's good enough for what I want it to do. -
Hi. Whilst running youtube, will the soundcard allow the bass to just run alongside it, no other software? Cheers.
(Presuming talking about Windows here) In the mixer (playback), the Microphone channel is usually muted. Unmute it. -
Techy question - Bass into laptop running youtube
neepheid replied to FlatEric's topic in General Discussion
Not a problem in theory but onboard sound on laptops can sometimes incur latency which means there may be some lag between what you play and what you hear - very annoying. Maybe they've got better since I last tried it, but ever since then I have always used an external USB sound interface for getting bass into computer. -
it's not wrong, just 70's style. very few modern fenders use it- my old 2002 usa FSR jazz did
60s Late 60s - mid 70s Late 70s These are the only three I recognise for the 60s and 70s.
