2. hi guys recently i was recording through my old 410tp, when i was asked the question, which cone is best i was confused, and he explained to me sometimes one cone ill sound better than the other? is there always a certain cone that is better for recording, or is this a bit pedantic?
3. only one bass?! oh the horror!!!!! theres not much the jazz bass can't do but at the end of the day, you could always hang on to the most expensive bass you can find and then just hire the rest every now and then?
4.
Thanks for the welcomes. Does anyone have any suggestions for any tutor dvds or books that i might be able to get hold of. I've looked on the internet and there are a few.
depends what you want to learn really, i'd always recommend buying a bass for beginners book, to show you the basics of reading music as it's an essential skill victor wooten has got some great slap guides and DVDs you can google http://www.amazon.co.uk/Super-Bass-Solo-Te...n/dp/0739042726 theres also 'slap it' which is a great book with lots of slap bass patterns that'll blow your mind http://www.slapit.com/ theres a great 70's disco funk book with similar patterns too http://gear1music.com/70s-Funk-Disco-Bass-..._source=froogle those are the first ones i found, but those are great for getting super funky, may be a bit hard seeing as your just starting, but get practising!
5.
Actually that left-handed neck thing might well work! BIt of an expensive experiment though. I definitely noticed the change in compliance on the E string when switching to a jazz from an Ibby (using the same strings and scale). But I quite liked it. If you're not using through-stringing, then that might be worth trying if the bass is drilled for it. Whether these things make a difference or not probably depends on the friction between the string and the nut/bridge.
its all to do with the theory that theres greater distance between the nut and the machine head, along with the disc on the top that usually holds the G and D strings down My cousin was talking to me about it, ssaying the guy from rage against the machine did it, because he's really into DIY bass stuff it's just finding the right people to do it , i dont wanna talk about the last time i used a drill
6.
There's a Mesa Big Block 750 in the for sale section.
yeah i saw! looks like a great bargain and is even shown ontop of a powerhouse on their website i think. the only problem with that one is that is needs a step up transformer and it hasn't got the 3 band eq im after though like what i have on my eden, as well as the magic enhancer knob would you say a big block would be better than a bigger eden? i'm really digging the eden sound i've got my eyes on a world tour 700 watt head, that looks like the step up from my wtx500 http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/Guitar_Amplif..._term={keyword} but that big block does look like a bargain, does anyone have any experience with any of these heads or a powerhouse? it'd be great to her from you
7. oh good grief lol i meant nut aha! what material would you recommend for the nut? i've had bone twice before , but it keeps coming out?
8. what'd you guys recommend to power an 800watt mesa boogie powerhouse 2x15? im running an eden wtx500 through there at the moment, and the tone is fantastic, but i need something a little louder, as the ol' limiter pops up on the head due to wattage and various equations that confuse me does anyone have any ideas? i'm not after a valve amp head any helps great thanks !
9.
Hey guys, im looking to buy a 2x15 Bass Cab.. does anyone have/know if the Markbass 152HR is any good? my college has a Markbass Endorsement which means we get 50% off of their products, so if this is a good cab im obviously gonna look into it!! However, I am also interested in the Mesa Powerhouse 2x15.. but it again, is a bit costly.. or also maybe a Peavey Tour 215 or a Hartke 215 for a cheap option.. also interested in an Ampeg 215 but, it seems like they are pretty hard to come by? I would also look into getting a Marshall 7215, but they are so rare I wouldnt know where to START to look for one!
not sure if it helps, but i got a 2x15 powerhouse for £500 from my local guitar shop second hand, absolute bargain and well worth the full price in my honnest opinion. Pumps out so much bass!
10. hello chaps, how are we? looking at my jazz bass, i noticed the nets coming out again, so i intend to get that replaced, but this is becoming a regular thing? my cousin eric told me about people sometimes changing to a left handed neck so that they get better string tension on the E string (something im quite keen on) is there a way i should go about doing this? also looking at my pickups, ive just noticed the tops are starting to rust (OMGWTFBBQ). does this affect performance? (bare with me i'm a tad dim) and should i replace them, if so what with? any help at all is great thanks ever so much!
11. I've been given the task to fill a 7 minute set of solo bass performance for my As Level recital, but i'm lost on what to play. Open to any suggestions if you could give me some? thanks guys!!
12. i love the hartke gear!!!!! great to see them on the forum!
13.
Hw about these? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bass-guitar-strings-...=item1e58d535c8
better off with shoelaces!
14.
Have you tried speaking to her? Try and shame her into re-imbursing you! "Your lazy son.... living off my taxes..." Life lessons are all well and good but i'd rather you get the bass repaired or replaced
yeah , i'm thinking of making it a project. My cousin from america said about warmouth or something? apparently they do body repairs and build new ones etc I could make a superbird the thunderbird is no where as user friendly as the jazz bass, but sounds really nice might need to do some frankenstein work
15.
What a scumbag. Being a lazy scrounger is not a geniune reason to hide from your responsibilities! Some people will tell you to just drop it, if it were me i'd follow it up though. Inform him it'll cost him more and have far more serious implications if he allows it to get to court. However people like that often dig themselves into a hole by not facing up to their problems
he got through uni without working at all, all thanks to mummy
16. Thanks alot for the feedback guys, really appreciate it after persistantly being on the phone to him hes still refusing to pay because he 'doesnt get that kind of money' because he has no job and he's too lazy to even apply. I'll have to look into taking him to a SCC but lesson DEFINITELY learned
17. a family friend of mine recently borrowed my bass. It was a limited edition epiphone thunderbird , in arctic white. I got the bass back eventually with a washer over the input and a series of cracks going past the input right round to the back of the bass literally touching the plate which you can unscrew to find all the electronics he payed £50 for it to be repaired, but the point is the bass has still got the cracks there He's refusing to pay any more for it and recommends i write it off under the house insurance, but that way i loose my no claims? Dad said about taking him to a small claims court, but all in all i'm really not sure what to do anybody else been in a similar situation? thanks
18. Hi all Recently i have grown to love the sound of my jazz bass i've also grown to hate the sound of my Dean edge q6 i don't like the big boomy sound of the EMG-HZ's on it, and was thinking of changing to different pickups what would you guys recommend? many thanks
19. i really enjoy playing slap bass i rarely use it in a band, but when your one your own with a drummer during practise it's great to groove with
20. bump well i got it , but also bought a eden wtx500! must say sounds just how i wanted, thanks for the recomendations however... I've been advised by my uncle to try and set it through 'send and return' the eden has a send and return socket, but so does the boss pedal? how should i arrange it? My guitar teacher said try edenSEND to bossRETURN , and bossSEND to edenRETURN, but no luck there many thanks
21.
Cris de Man, Eden amps give a great combination of tone and power. They are rather more clean sounding than most but still sound full and uncoloured. You'll probably find you hardly have to touch the tone controls to get a good sound I've had my WT800c since christmas and I know I will be heard in any gig, In fact the 500 would be enough for most of the gigs I do. The DI sound is fantastic for recording. Last two sessions the Engineers have not really EQ'd the sound at all Highly recommend them. cheers Fran
thanks very much i feel, it's better to get a clean sounding amp than a 'dirty' sounding one, as its alot easier to make it sound dity than to make it sound clean. It'll go well with my GT-10b
22. heres a picture http://www.eden-electronics.com/products/a...zoom_wtx500.jpg Just looking at it, i've noticed that the knobs can pull out to add bass boost etc. When you pull theese out i'm asuming you can turn them to increase bass boost then just put it back in and it'll go back to being able to adjust bass?
23.
How much are the WTX500s here? Obvious alternative choices are the Markbass LMII/III and Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 and there are plenty of very happy owners of both on here. Alex
The WTX500 is going for around £550 odd... worth it?
24. Hey guys Looking into buying a new head below £1000 Found this little devil, the Eden WTX500, looks very practical for my kinda setup. Does anyone have any feedback on Eden? alternatively, does anyone have this head and could tell me if its worth the money? Saw a video of the bass player from the stooges trying his Eden rig, but it was quite hard to understand him Thanks very much!
25.
I just bought a Jayro Rickenfaker from Japan...bought it for like 54800 JPY...that loosely translates to around 400 pounds Body is def. not ply wood. According to the shopkeeper the hardwares were sourced from Korea, whilst the body is CNC-ed by Bacchus... The bass is beautifully made, no cosmetic blemishes, good hardwares and loving the vintage style tuners! The neck size+shape is in between P and J bazz... not baseball bat like but not fast either. It will fit onto ur hand just nicely and has no neck-dive! The sound of the neck pick-up is pretty weak given that it acts as the bass-ier one whilst the bridge pick-up has that Ric bridge pick-up bite! Switch it to the bridge pick up and unleash those slap, pops and taps, hell even distort and pick it like crazy and it will not disappoint you. The neck pick up is kinda average...It will still get the job done but it excels in nothing, ie. a lil too passive. Still good for slow Motown/blues grooves and walking bass lines here and there, but overall its quite thin for a neck pick up and lacks that supposedly Ric deep growl. NOW HERE COMES THE BAD NEWS: I'm no wiring expert, but when you switch the toggle to the middle position(activating both pick ups), the pickups will get much much much quieter and muddier! Instead of harmonizing each other, the pick ups kinda cancel each other out and create a weak-sauce output. A friend of mine told me that the problem can be solved by rewiring the pickups/pots or whatever that was.... So far so good and I can assure you that Jayro JRB-600 is miles better than Indie's Rickenbugger and Aria Pro's knock-off! With a little tweaking this bass can be transformed into a potent bass!
I saw a 'Toka' or 'Toca' (not sure what it was, definately wasn't tokai) copy of a rikenbaker 4001. It felt OK, but not what you get for £399. It was in fireglo, my least favourite colour , but it sounded horrid. The bass was very difficult to play with finger and with slap. The Jayro Rickenfaker mentioned above sounds like a bargain to me!
