3. I wanted a sansamp DI but after seeing what it does to people I'm gonna steer clear.
  4.
You can get plenty of attack from recording inside the kick drum. It is a matter of accentuating the upper mids for the "click" sound which not everyone likes but it certainly gives you a lot of attack.
Yes, that makes sense I was lacking any real thud though I had to try and sort it with eq. We're trying to record drums again soon so I'll bare this in mind
Big topic mate!
No foolin. sh*t After reading all that I think we were dead lucky with the sound we ended up with considering we had no idea whatsoever what we were doing. As always Si, it's an education. Thanks a lot, this will come in handy as we are trying to record the drums again soon.

  6.
If you love the sound of you bass with a D112, or a D6, or a 92a, or a 52a, or a red audio rdv1 or whatever the particular version is, then do the sound guy a favour and suggest your drummer to use anything else (ie a 57, a senn 421. a PR-40, an RE20 jeez, anything else) on the kick.....
Hi Si. I recorded drums recently with a 57 on the snare and a 58 inside the bass drum and wasnt happy with the results. I had to use these because I didn't have anything else. I'm not sure why the 57 never worked on the snare but it might have been poor placement. Do you think the 58 should have been on the drummer side recording the attack rather than inside the drum? The drums are rubbish aswell so that didn't help.
  7.
HI All Here's mine ! '73 Jazz-bass.
Nice man. How different are they to the fender basses today? Is the feel, tone etc a lot different? Would love to have a play on a bass like this one day.
  8. I'll take this if you still have it chris. Am Just down the east lancs

  10.
My wife and kids are away this weekend so i might be having a look in the wardrobe. Trouble is shes a size 8 and i'm not. Still, i am sure i'll find something that will make me play better
Stop it mate your cracking me up now. Maybe we should all get together and play bass and JO in our wives dresses. Nothing queer mind. Just honest dress wearing bass playing men who like to JO together
  11.
The drummer is completely at the right gig. They need to sack the boring guitarist though. I've never seen someone look so uninterested when he's taking his solos.
He has the look of a resigned man "oh whats the point with Malcolm doing his f***ing drum thing again, no one will notice me and my awsome lead anyway"
  12. Same here I am learning from Marlowes tutorials now. Things I'm noticing is that you have to do it really slow and build up gradually. Also I am noticing more and more that you dont need do hit the strings hard at all. The more relaxed you are the better the tone is. I get really tense when i play slap bass and it translates really badly in the results. When I'm nice and relaxed I can play much better. Economy of movement is key.
  13.
Yes, i do.
Well it's worth a try in my case because I'm bloody rubbish haha
Clearly a talented dude, doing whatever the hell he wants. 'Doing it right', in my opinion.
I agree. How much of a f*** can one guy not give
  14.
Is it me or does the right hand seem to be moving much faster than it should be for the amount of notes played?, is its youtube thing? Love the tune, and the bass, and the playing style. Quite like the outfit too. VERY tempted to put a video of me in youtube playing in my wifes clothes now lol

We should start a thread?
I'm in. Do you think it will improve our playing?
  15.
brilliant tune here's a bit of context
Cool. Still none the wiser though haha great tune tho. I like it.
I'm intrigued. I can't see the vid at work but need to see when i get home tonight. When you can't see what's getting talked about your mind conjures up many weird and wonderful things. Dave
Think you will be disappoint

Look, will you guys stop rubbing it in? It was an honest mistake, thinking it was a girl, alright?

I thought you were just a confident gay guy haha. SHould have gone to spec savers.
  16.
he's Korean btw
Steve, you know too much about this
its that music?sound like korean version of Pink with better basslines
Yes, I like the music. Always good basslines
Actually I take it back. He's not doing it right. Looking at his YouTube channel his least viewed video which has only been up for 2 weeks has already almost 20,000 hits. Some of the older ones have over 2 million! So why then isn't his cross-dressing K-pop band hitting a venue or on-line music store near us? Instead it appears he still hasn't left his bedroom. Marketing fail.
He must be making shitloads in advertising but he could ake a mint doing roadshows and stuff Cheeko style

    mix advice

Thanks SI. Just ordered the book on Amazon for £8. Bargain Reading through your workflow illustrates that I have very much to learn. Pretty overwhelming and too much to comment on here but I shall keep this as a reference guide and begin to fill in the gaps in my knowledge. Is it right that the ears are important? haha Thanks mate J PS - Once I've remixed this track will you give me some mix notes on it?

  19.
I love my Sandberg. It sounds feckin ace. Doubt I'll ever need another bass.
Was this an intentional rhyme dude Has a good ring to it.

    mix advice

Hi Si. Thanks again this is really helpful to me. I'm glad that the low, mid, bass thing is just a proprietory thing it does make more sense to just think of them as placeholders. Do you always use EQ on an instrument to try and enhance it? The book I'm reading advocates mixing the most important instrument first so it will have enough headroom. this makes more sense to me now that I understand a little more. Tha author says; listen and if you keep wanting to alter the volume of a track it might be a candidate for compression. Once you sort those tracks out mix again for levels and see if there are other problems, this is where EQ comes in. I'll be honest I end up with compression and EQ on everything because the plugins just seem to enhance. I am pretty subtle with the compression in most cases though I think. Do you have a particular workflow when applying EQ and compression? ARe there "well known" frequency ranges that always need care? Cheers Dude J
