1. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, links and a bloody good laugh. I'll jot them all down into a list. Not sure I want to go through with it now. We play Sex on Fire too and I hate it already even before we've played it live haha. We'll have to break it up with a good pub gig now and then. Noticed all the old songs are still popular so we might as well try them although we are just a 5 piece guitar bass drums job so we might struggle to do some of them. Interesting to target a specific genre. It would certainly be easier to do that. Lots to think about really.

 4. Hi all Been and joind a covers band and we are targeting weddings. We like playing rock numbers and have been practising stuff by U2, The Doors, OCS, Beatles and all that jazzmit but appreciate that wont go down at most weddings. Anyone know what kind of songs are expected? Do you have to include a lot of current chart music? Any other advice will help
 5. Thanks Si. I get this more now. I'm going to mix some music tonight and will try this technique. Do you add EQ after you have adjusted your levels?
I know, chief - but you're a good contributor here; a solid player; you'll move on You'll find some people who do want your input; who will listen; who won't rehearse the same old mistakes - I'll bet you a quid on it
Haha You're on Gust0o Sorry for the lateness of my reply and thanks for the lift bro.

 12.
On speaking to a few bassist I think nowadays many have learned both finger and pleck depending on the situation. I think its seen as being a more versatile player. I need to work on my plec picking for future recordings with da metul band but I'd never play one live, just haven't the confidence.
I agree that it can only make you a better more versatile player the more techniques you can use.
I think people are finally getting over the "You're not a proper Bass player if you play with a pick!" thing, mainly because it's a moronic point of view and demonstrably wrong.
The scars are deep Your Majesty I used to play bass only with a plec in a heavy type band but it was mainly because I switched from guitar to bass and couldn't get the speed I needed with my fingers. I found the only people who used to bitch about the not playing with fingers were people who didn't even play anything themselves or just someone who wanted to hate on you anyway. Never got any complaints at gigs because it worked. That's what occured to me watching these other bass players. They were getting the speed with less effort and the bass sound wasn't compromised in any way at all. In fact sometimes I wondered if they had some kind of echo pedal because they seemed to be getting double the notes out of each stroke. But my eyes arent what they used to be
 13. Welcome aboard. This is a fantastic place to learn. Loads of top bass players post here.
 14. I was at a couple of festivals over the weekend and a lot of the bass players were using plectrums in an up and down style. In fact, most of them were. It was mainly indi sounding bands and a mixture of basses mainly Fender and Rics. But some jazz type players were using the plec too. It made me wonder because I've never seen so many bassists using plecs. Is this a current trend? Also, Is it ok?
 15. I think I need to play MUCH softer. I am hammering it and I don't think there's any need.
 16.
Presumably, if you turned the camera 90 degrees to the right, we'd see the huge pile of junk that you'd just swept off of your desk? S.P.
hehe. Looks like a nice place to play and relax bro. Missing my old den For every Ying there is a Yang

 18.
Wait a minute here. Just wait a minute. Glasgow is one of the greatest cities on earth. There is no other city in the UK in which I would rather live. I say this because I have lived in Glasgow and suburbs for 45 years. The people are marvellous. All those cliches that are being tramped out here could be applied to any UK city. Glasgow is a great place to be.
Don't listen to him he's clearly been on the Buckfast j/k mate honest. I've never been but will do one day I hope It's just the same as wherever I go outside of Liverpool people crack jokes about us being robbing bastards. Which is quite true by the way

 20.
ive been researching this guy for a while now... his playing is just off the wall on this track imo.... he dances around that fret board for sure and all his notes are killer... he NEVER puts a foot wrong ever.... before Jaco there was the master.. imo..
Just seen the light myself. This is the yardstick imo
 21.
So the consensus of opinion seems to be "keep your head down and try to get everyone out alive" Don't think my inlaws and son would be too impressed with the hard drug angle
Sorry mate. Just one of those friendly stereotype-cum-racist jokes. We know some of them are clean
