  1. Can't say I've played either bass. I'm sure they're both totally excellent; we would all expect of Ibanez, if you like that sort of thing. To my taste, most Ibanez instruments have been too aggressive in their tone. Yet my tastes are changing and it's probably a good time to try them again. To try to help a bit, to answer the wood question that @Al Krow summoned me here for: Wenge and Pangs pangs are very similar in qualities. Both are very hard and will blunt tools as you work them. The grain is straight and it splinters a lot. As they are very similar in these respects, I would expect their other characteristic, such a sound, when used in a neck, will be the same. AFAIK there are no CITES restrictions on either, but Ibanez could be changing out of anticipation of problems in this area, or it could be down to price. What you can be certain of, is as the SR1800 was successful, they won't be wanting to change a winning formula. So, the new woods will be as similar as possible to the old ones. Don't see why they would have ever had a wenge neck and Rosewood fingerboard, apart from to meet a common expectation in the market, for a certain "look". Summary: dunno for sure, but my guess is it's price.
  2. Most Warwick have 36 frets and balance perfectly well. Also, @Joe Hubbard Bass I don't get the "never made a bass with 19mm spacing". I have a 2 piece adjustable bridge adjusted to 19mm spacing on all my Warwick basses I've owned.
  3. @BreadBin you commented on the other thread about passing the bass on. You can always ship it. We knew you were the only person in the area trying it. So far, I've done a fair bit of moving the bass about. I've just been willing to help out. It isn't my responsibility. So, if folk want It moved on in the next 2 weeks while I'm out of the UK, that's all good with me. Perhaps I should add here, I normally go to the SW, for work 2-3 times a year.
  4. Hey! Thanks for posting. Now we can see where @Marcoelwray's Elwray bass is too! For those who don't know what I'm talking about.... Congratulations on the new bass day!
  5. LOL.. What would Farage have to say if, as part of the leaving the EU, we had to give all the words back that we stole!? Answer: nothing, he'd be speechless. (This makes Brexit quite attractive, come to think about it...)
  6. We know. If you took the French and German out of the English language we would only be able to grunt at each other.
  7. OK, when I'm back on 5th November, I'll make every effort to get to go back to collect the bass.
  8. I too had to look up "Perigrinations". @Marcoelwray, please excuse our English if ours isn't as good as yours.
  9. That is very good of you @Marcoelwray I get back to the UK on 5th November. It would be at least a week before I can get to the south. So, there is a chance, but posting it would make it more certain. On the idea of photos; iconic picture ideas I've had are taking the bass with: Black cab/taxi. Red phone box. Stone miles distance sign. Football stadium of a well know team...
  10. It's a bit late now but something I had thought of, was if all who played it left a small donation in the case, this would crowd-fund the times someone needs to send it by courier.
  11. If it helps, I can probably get down to Wilts/Devon again in 3-5 (approx) weeks. I can collect the bass and get it to @TrevorR. Regrettably I don't have cause to travel much north of Huntingdon these days.
  12. Is it possible that others may be thinking they don't have much more to add to the comments that have already been made? So if the following don't respond, maybe it's time for the bass to go back home? @TrevorR - Staines, Middx @Bridgehouse - Peterborough, Leicester/Nottinghamshire @Geek99 - Coalville, Leicester @honza992 - Nottingham @Vinny - Wales
  13. Jess Loureiro makes double coil jazz pups that can be wired in series to give a p-bass sound. I've got 1 to put into PJ bass, when I get round to it. http://jlguitars.eu/shop/index.php?id_product=26&controller=product&id_lang=4
  14. Changing the body is certainly going to change the voice. Apart from the inevitable discussion about tone form wood, the fit of the pocket will be different. As will pickup and bridge placement, even if it's only small. Another thing to think of is the balance of the weight of the neck and body. If you get a lighter body, will the neck balance on the strap in the same way?
  15. Good to see BC at its best again.
  16. Others remaining on the list are: @TrevorR - Staines, Middx @Bridgehouse - Peterborough, Leicester/Nottinghamshire @Geek99 - Coalville, Leicester @honza992 - Nottingham @Vinny - Wales Who would like it next after @BreadBin ?
  17. No offence guys. It was back in 2007. So I've had time. All I wanted to do was a stark reminder that this is a mixed community. Please be careful there are others here who may be going through different experiences.
  18. My brother used the upstairs banister. And @FinnDave , for your info, he used a mains extension lead, not a rope. See, even desperate people can be resourceful.
  19. Bearing in mind the ancient pots and the chances that they could well be naff, I'd replace them.
  20. Yes, that is good English. That does make sense. You're very welcome.
  21. Tim has just dropped the bass off here as planned. Tomorrow it will be going south to @BreadBin
  22. also... how do you evaluate the tonal effect on the music that comes from the musician having positive mental attitude, coming from playing a bass that the musician believes to be the dogs do-dars?
  23. Never got that; "Les Paul". Surely "Les" is plural, where "Paul" is singular. So shouldn't it be "La Paul" or "Le Paul" as Paul is masculine? Where's @Dad3353 ? he'll know, he's a French expert.
  24. Even changing the varnish will change the resonance of the sound box. So there's a real danger that your opinion of the tone of the instrument may be different when you've finished. Not saying you won't like it, but it could change.
  25. In the "tonewood" discussion, I recon the neck is more likely to resonate more than the body as it's slimmer and more prone to bend, so with a carbon fibre neck, is the type of body wood, maybe imaterial? Have to agree with @BassTractor, the fit of the neck pocket is probably more important than all of this. I'm sure over the years many an instrument has been built of top-quality materials, to give a very average result through not getting the fit of the neck and other fine details right. But that's just my opinion. Good luck with the build, and I mean that.
