1. Exactly, for me the Audere is a final refinement of a very well finished bass... imo it should be the very last thing you add. Which is why I tried to mentioned replaceing the pots, expecting you to say "but I want an audere". So I suggest putting the cost of that pre toward making it a very good passive bass, if you buy parts second hand you can always resell if you want to try the that sound.
2. I think they charge over the top for them, a good EB-0 for example is worth about £600 imho. Gibson basses have gotta have a natural finish in my book, but your white eb-3 is really nice
3. M2000 is a nice amp, suprised you didn't hold onto that one?! Which trace did you have, I owned an pre-gibson ah350 with gp12 pre-amp for a while... kinda wish I still had it, really awesome, stable tone and way louder than anything else SS/Hybrid rated for 350w RMS.
4.
What do you mean? I'm not just buying the body, i'm buying a 5 string jazz and replacing the neck. So I'll have a bridge, tuners, pickups etc. Which I will probably add an Audere to later.
I mean just that! So you are using Fender or SX stock parts (you don't say what brand/model the top pic bass is), I would advise against using SX parts. What about pots and jack socket, which Audere pre are you going for?
5. Doesn't sound like a very complete plan to me lol! What about everything else?
6. IMO the weak points on an SX are the frets, tuners and the pots... of course due to the nature of their production the quality of the finished product fluctuates, so you might have a really nice bass there. I would say without pics it is worth about £50-100, which model is it?
7. Only the XB925 and RB2502 have ever caught my attention, Washburn don't make good basses imo.
8. Just sounds like a screwed pot and it will deteriorate if you don't get it seen to, it's a simple fix but if you aren't competent then don't attempt it since working on amps can be a dangerous affair. Take it to a techie, it won't be expensive unless something like a gremlin in the pre-amp is to blame.... that would be worst case scenario and *highly* unlikely.
9. Fun pedals for the money, don't be put off by the low price or the marshall tag.
10. Try a little bit of research: http://www.basspickup.com/soundclips1.htm
11. Despite their huge size and humbucker-like look, Dark Stars are single-coil pickups. They have individually adjustable polepieces (the row of flat-head screws are the adjusters), an enormous steel core, and two big Alnico V bar magnets. According to frequency-response tests performed by Alembic’s Ron Wickersham in the late ’60s, the Hagstrom design has exceptionally broad frequency response. This wide and even response was one of Fred Hammon’s primary design goals.
12. How old is it? Pics would be good, i've been after a vintage one of these to mod for a while!
13. Nice looking basses, shame they don't do higher spec models. Darkstars would require routing, so if you are up to the task, sounds cool to me, but make sure you replace everything else electronic wise. A full leveling, crowning, detail nutwork treatment will do more for the bass than anything imo.
14. It's a case of "looks better than it plays" from my experience with them, but if you were to have it professionally set up, shielded and some hi spec electronics of your choice to replace the original stuff... i'm sure you would have a very nice bass.
15. I think they were bassplayers mags bass of the year in 2006 or something, i've never tried one though.
16. Welcome to basschat, hope you stay!
17. Got a pic of the holes and the case so I can gauge condition, if you have found a box to post it and it's in good nick... i'll have it
18. I'll be playing hardcore, punk and funky stuff through it. I don't use many effects, well you can see what I have in my sig. It sounds to me like you would be most happy with a 100w Fender Bassman silverface or maybe one of the Epifani amps, what other stuff have you owned amp wise?
19.
I disagree... it's best to have this out in the open, also there's little enough posting on the site in the last few days as it is.
Well make a thread about it in the bass forum then?
20.
Is a 1001RBII not an option? mine is biblically loud ;D
Perhaps I should have mentioned that I don't want to recover the same ground, I like the GK allot but I want to try something new.
21. The sonic blueish one is ok, but I certainly wouldn't buy it.
22. Gaiz, just because you don't agree with a sellers price isn't really a reason to jump on his head :/ Maybe start a thread about this in the correct forum? Just my 2p
23. Sounds good, so what do you use now then?
I dunno, probably 6/7/8 months? What do you want to know? I'm not very good at describing amps, I never had a use for the overdrive, so apart from turning it on once or twice when messing around and bored I can't tell you much like how it cuts through etc. Sounds like a normal SWR, it wasn't modern and clean sounding enough for me in the end (like markbass are), when I started playing SWR were my dream heads, and I guess that's why I picked it up, but at the end of the day it doesn't suit what I do now. I miss my markbass now, but my vocalist is travelling the world, so I hardly play (hence why I have a dirt cheap superfly).
What sort of stuff were you playing on the SWR?
24. For me it was always Timmy C, Flea and of course Steve Harris.
