1. Hi one and all There have been some issues in the area regarding BT and they are supposedly fixing it ASAP, in the mean time you can email us at [email protected] Regards Alex
 2. Hi disgruntled people when i shop, i hate assistants pestering me, i like to try things, if i like them, i buy them, that is how run The Gallery, we are a shop and there to make money, if you come in and tell me, i'd like to try things but i'm not buying anything, i'm not really sure what people expect of me. I don't just deal with sales, i have to do internet, photos, accounts, amongst other things so i have always lots to do, i will always answer question, i'm not sure why it matters if i'm chatty or not, if you are after buying gear i'll happily sell it to you, i'm not sure why it matters if i'm all sweetness and light. I'm not a robot, i have good days, bad days, And yes as mentioned i do feel bad if people aren't happy with their visit! On the plus side i will be leaving, so all those people that said they would not come back because of the way they where treated, can come back. Re prices we do price match regardless if we have the item in stock. alex
 3. Hi Guys the site is maintained and kept up to date on a day to day basis, somethings can get overlooked sometimes though, we keep the brands on there as our stock changes all the time, and it's a pain to keep adding and removing logos. We do have a lot of stock currently so no, not thinning things down, I am doing part time now, as i am studying The Knowledge, as i feel the time has come to try new avenues, I'll be there for a little while yet, sadly we can't all be Bass Direct Alex
 4.
I'm afraid I spent a bit of time with Martin in the workshop downstairs, and he gave me just as much guff as the other guy on the shop floor. He was a bit more polite though, I'll give him that.
We are not miserable f***ers, I'm one of the happiest people i know! we just can get a little busy at times, and as Clarky says, we do get a lot of time wasters in, on the other hand, i can olny apologise if people haven't go the service they wanted, we can only try better in the future alex
 5.
Hi Alex I really liked your comment. I have not visited your shop as yet but intend to before the year is out. Is it best to ring, even if it is for a general browse? I would be looking at amps / cabs etc and would bring my own bass. I hope that the positive comments can out shine the negative and I am looking forward to visiting! Blademan
Hi Blademan Just pop by and have a look by all means, I will try and not be grumpy, no promises mind you As i say i have taken on board what people have said, and there will be no more issues in future Alex
 6.
Hi Alex, Thanks for taking the time to post and for breaking cover. Yes, when I first came into the shop I said I was looking around, but the truth is I was looking for the Wal, and I like to keep my business to myself until I need to show my hand, so to speak. I waited for you to be free from dealing with all other people before I approached you, and actually waited for you to finish your calculating. I'm quite shy in these type of situations, a little like the post Clarky added. I have no idea who the Bass belongs too, but it's not an unreasonable assumption to believe it belongs to the Bass Gallery, and that you want to sell it. But, your opening gambit was very negative and made me feel like I was some kind of fraud. I'm sorry that you have people who come into your shop who waste your time, but I cannot be held accountable for the actions of others, and I feel like the cat who got kicked. But what surprised me was after you told me how expensive it was etc etc, you disappeared! I sat for a couple of minutes, stood for a little while, and then left. Had I offended you in any way, because I'm at a loss to understand? What I would have liked you to have done was to stay around and point out all the bits and bobs that I might not know myself. I thought at least you might have stayed around just to make sure I didn't scratch it of something. I'm just the same as anybody else, Alex, we all want to feel special in our buying experiences. There is a clear reason you have put a pic of yourself sitting on a Speed Triple on your site, because you look and feel great on it. Believe me, I know bikes, and know that feeling. I just wanted to feel the same way when you handed me that Wal. Anyway, no bones broken and water under the bridge. By the way, I hung the Wal back up very carefully, I hope this was evident when you returned Best Wishes
Hi I know we are all different, and i can only apologise again for the way you were treated by myself, I had so much to do, and i really thought that you were just in browsing as many people do. If you are ever around again, pop in and I will apologise in person. i did notice the Wal, well hung up alex
 7.
I've sat on this for 5 months however I must confess that I had a slightly unpleasant experience with the Gallery earlier this year. I emailed to see if they had any used Epifani UL-212 cabs. They said they had two and gave me a price which was in the order of what I expected, so based on previous experience I said I would have one and that I would come and collect. I asked if they would like a deposit and duly paid £100 by bank transfer. A week or so later I drove up to collect. They had two so I selected the one in best condition, paid the balance, and Alex and Martin kindly carried it out and loaded it in the car. At this point I hadn't lifted it. When I got it home I was somewhat surpised to find that it was a lot heavier at 31.4Kg than my existing cab, a T212-UL, at 22.1Kg. I got straight back to them and said it was unusable at that weight and that I would like to return it - there was no mention of conditions. I duly set off for London with the cab and delivered it back to them. Imagine my surprise when I was advised that they would not refund the deposit I paid but only the balance. After remonstrating with them they agreed to only withhold £50. Only after I decided to buy a brand new speaker cab did they agree to give a full refund. I would just warn others not to volunteer a deposit, and if you have to pay one then keep it to a minimum and clarify the returns policy. It left a very sour taste in my mouth and I probably will never shop there again.
Blimey not doing well here, but in our defence if you look at point 3 in out T&C it does say deposits are non refundable. 8. Hi people I take on board all the comments, and it's true I can come across as a tad surly from time to time, and it is inexcusable I agree There are a lot of time wasters and people who come to try gear, and then go and buy it cheaper on line. I do get a lot of people in like yourself billy, who say I've just come in for a look round, which is all well and fine, it's not a case of being deliberately unhelpful but if you had said, I've come to try the Wal i'm interested, then of course It's no problem at all. The bass does belong to a customer, and i did assure them that i would keep people trying it out to a minimum. To other people who have had a bad experience, all i can do is apologise, we are a small, busy operation and it's sometimes not easy to give people the time they deserve. alex
 9. Hi Warwick decided for some reason that to be a main stockist you need to have a very large stock commitment, which many shops like ourselves refuse to commit to. I have spoken to a few people at Warwick about this, and it frustrates them as much as it frustrates UK dealers, but it comes from the top, and for the foreseeable future there will be very few places in the UK you can buy a German Warwicks. The Rock Bass range is still readily available though. Alex
 10.
Rather than start a new thread I thought I'd resurrect this one! Has anyone any experience buying from thelowend? I'm not after one of their Jazz basses, I'm interested in the 'used' stock. Cheers
hi yes i have, Brian is a great guy, easy to deal with, had no problems what so ever alex
 11. Hi like the man says, if you love it just have it fretted, we can do it, will cost about £170, much cheaper option alex
 12.
I won't name and shame yet although I got an annoyingly vague response to my email of yesterday: 'It is sorted, outputs transistor blew. It should be back here soon and out to you' I don't want to be hearing vague 'should' and 'soon' - I want a definite date, and if it is actually sorted what is the delay getting it back to me?! Why is it just sitting there? and why did he not get in touch with me to tell me its all sorted? i'm awaiting a further reply on the above, but am starting to get a bit annoyed now. So sod it, its BassDirect. cheers c
Im sure we could help you too
 13.
So I call up the gallery to get a price for the routing of a Jazz pickup into my Precision bass, it goes something, although not word-for-word like this: Me: So I'm interested in [what I've explained above], I notice that on the website it says from £30... Gallery: [politely cuts me off] ah well a jazz pickup rout will probably be more like £70-£80 Me: Oh right....so If I supply the pickup, knob and pot would you be able to put it all together for me? Gallery: Your talking about £100-£110 for all that Me: ok thanks! Now I understand that they've covered themselves by saying "From £30" on the website, but what are they routing for that amount of money?.....1/3 of a Jazz pickup?. I can understand if someone phoned up and wanted three darkstars put in, thats a lot of work....but one jazz pickup?. It's basically double what I thought the whole process might cost. I THEN asked about a refret for my 1973 jazz, I wanted to ask about binding: Me: I see that a bound refret is £130.... (and it doesn't say "from" this time) Gallery: Is it rosewood or maple? Me: Rosewood Gallery: Yeah your talking £180-£200 for that Me: Uh-huh, and does that retain the original binding? Gallery: Yes it would do I'm no luthier, but an extra £70 because (and this is down to real basic deduction, please tell me otherwise) it's a rosewood fingerboard as opposed to maple?? I know people are gonna say they're justified because they're the best....just think their website could perhaps have some better indications/examples of prices! Si
As indeed stated the prices are 'from' the work involved routing a pickup through the body and also in the scratchplate does involve a fair bit of time and expertise, supplying the pickup etc cuts the cost, but wiring everything up again, is quite time consuming, routing and wiring a bass we think £100 is a very reasonable price. With regards the refret again indeed if the fingerboard was unbound the price would £130, it is just a little more involve with binding. We are also in the process of having a new website launched where there will be a more extensive and up to date price list. I have updated the old website prices alex
