1. Get a bottle of surgical spirit and keep dabbing some on your fingers where they come into contact with the strings.

Start using it before the heavy gig.

Works every time for me if I have a lay off.

Do you ever book out of area bands at all? I've been looking into possibly getting my Blues band some Jazz and Blues festival booking a bit further afield.

We have in the past occasionally other bands on but at the moment we're struggling to keep the gigs going.

6. I've posted this before but this guy Max used Kolstein Heritage strings with a full circle i.i.r.c.

His Yammy sounds better than a lot of real basses that I've heard

Hi Mr Bassman. I am used to playing a real DB. I tried a NS Design and hated it. No heel reference etc, but looking at The Yamaha, it has a traditional neck and heel. I didn't know you could change the pickup in the Yamaha. I would like a jazz sound as close to a real DB as possible. Any string recommendations?
The Yamaha SLB200 has a slightly thinner / shorter neck & string length to the SLB100

Depends what sort of sound you're after, I've tried countless pickups & strings on both models.

Kolstein Heritage strings work well for me playing jazz

Pickups I've tried don't suit both models equally. The full circle didn't do it for me on the 100 but sounds good on the 200. Underwood works well on both but you'll probably need a buffer preamp depending on what you plug into. The Shadow SH950 works well, sounds darker and doesn't need a preamp. Gage realist won't fit unless you get the cello version. All the single sided wing slot types are unbalanced unless you fit two. The Wilson K4 which sounds amazing on my Mo Clifton doesn't shine on the SLB100, I've not tried it on a 200 as I don't have one anymore. Mag pickups are another option.
As for playability out of all the different models I've owned or played the SLB100 feels the closest to a real bass, the neck is lovely, it balances really well, just sits there, but it's quite heavy and getting the sound right can be a challenge.
Every other one I've played has issues with spinning or just not feeling right, apart from my Clifton, which I'm playing seated now. It's the best sounding solid EUB I've come across. It's not the best looking but it ticks more boxes and gets more compliments on the sound than any other I've had.

8. After years of owning estate cars I went for a Diesel Citroen Berlingo Multispace.
It's the most versatile economical vehicle I have ever tried having loads of space and seating options.
We put our 2 large dogs in a travel crate in the boot.
I can put a double bass upright in the back without having to drop the seats.
At the recent double bass bash I took 3 acoustic uprights, 2 eub's, 2 combos plus stands with room to spare.

I am struggling to carry my bass at my advanced age, and am considering a more portable instrument. I'm interested in members thoughts on these. Seems there are two types: hollow bodied (allegro, eminence etc) and sticks: (NS Designs, Aria etc). Do the hollow instruments sound more authentic? I would just as well play my Fender bass than an electric double bass that sounds like a bass guitar. Are there any 'stand out' models. I don't want to spend more than £2,000 but would prefer less. It seems that advice from retailers depends on which models they stock. I'm not sure if I should by a cheaper one for rehearsals and lug the 3/4 to gigs, or go the whole distance and get a decent one and use it on stage. As acoustic basses are hard to amplify, it seems to me that a dedicated, quality electric bass could be superior. Advice from members would be very useful to me.

Kedo, I'd love to share my experiences with you but I'd be typing forever. I you'd like to chat on the phone it might save some wear & tear on my old fingers.

EUB's occupy a nice little niche between an electric bass guitar and a double bass, but don't sound anything like a double bass. An electric fretless with tapewounds will do just as well as an EUB to simulate a DB. However, an EUB looks cool and gets good feedback from an audience. There is no real benefit spending loads of money on one as they all sound pretty similar, and experimenting with strings can produce more effective results to move closer to a proper upright sound. Just go for the one you like the look of most.

I'm sorry but after owning and experimenting with at least 10 different EUB's and as many fretless basses, I have to disagree with all comments except the one about strings.
