2. The other Michael Jackson is the guest saxophonist this Tuesday at the Harrogate Brasserie

Born in the U.K. he now lives in Chicago but is visiting the UK this week to celebrate his 50th birthday.

We played in a band together about 30 years ago, we've not seen each other since so it'll my great to catch up.

Anyone who knows / remembers Mike and would like to see him please come to this gig.

  3. You need to get one of each and find out which works best for you (like many of us here have)

For starters the Bassmax is the most tolerant fit of the wing slot types, doesn't need a pre amp, and in my experience has the most feedback resistance.

And it doesn't cost the earth so I'd recommend that you try one before spending a fortune on others.

I'm using a Bassmax on 2 of my uprights whilst at least a nearly new Realist, 2 x Full Circle, Upton Rev solo11, Underwood and Shadow are all in the spares box.

The Bassmax doesn't suit EUB's with solid bodies unless you fit one either side of the bridge. That's where Underwood & Shadow SH950 come in useful.

    Have fun

  4. I've too many fretless basses so I'm gonna list a couple to make way for another :)

This was defretted by my local luthier, It's lined with dots in-between the fret lines.

It has a couple of dings but it's a working bass not a piece of wall art.

Big, fat sound from the split pick up, what you would expect from the bridge.

Would prefer collection from Harrogate or meet up in Yorkshire.

  5. Anyone fancy sitting in tonight at the Red Lion, I'll have an upright and bass guitar on hand.

Or just want come for a pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord, listen to some sounds and say hello.

Live music will only survive with an audience!

  6. If you've got the jazz bridge it's dead easy to fit a full circle and will be a big improvement on the Yamaha pup.

If yours is the earlier chunkier bridge with wooden adjusters you'll have to modify the bridge or replace it.

I've experimented with loads of pups & strings on the Yammys and settled on a Shadow SH950

Dave Swift has gone back to using Yamaha Silent basses, he used full circles a few years ago but I think he now uses Wilsons

  7. I went to check out a new venue on the outskirts of York where our very own geoffbassist was shining with the Karl Mullen Trio.

It's the Red Lion, Upper Poppleton, York YO26 6PR

The function room is perfect as a jazz venue, seats about 60 max so it's nice & intimate. There's a digital piano, p.a. & lights.

Timothy Taylor Landlord Bitter, huge car park, friendly staff & clean toilets!

Next Thursday 16th Oct I'm on bass duties with vocalist Jenny Smith.
