1. I've just noticed your original topic was referring to the Ten2 S4 Plus, mine is the S4 not the plus

On mine there is an effects loop on each channel which you can use each send as a line out. Also the returns can be used for inputs from other instruments / preamps each with a level control. A.f.a.i.k. the plus has done away with the effects loop but has two independently buffered inputs per channel.
There's only one D.I. on both versions.

2. I've tried blending and the Clarus (Ten 2 head) works well but I'm all for keeping things simple & minimal, I don't often have the luxury of sound checks so I have to predict what bass / amp will suit the gig.
I've tried different mics but for most of my gigs I'm happy with a piezo.
I've also tried many different amps/speakers/combos but the Ten2 is my favourite reference combo for experimenting with new pickups etc. I don't tweak the eq much, usually just plug straight in and use the low cut filter or the room coupler on the cab to suit the room.

Also have a word with Clarky, he has both the briefcase and Ten2 for comparison.

3. I've got one.

It's excellent for DB, no need for a pre amp whether using a mic or piezo, all the bells & whistles to eliminate boom & feedback.

It's also good for EUB and bass guitar + any instrument where you want a true sound.

I've done gigs where the extra channel has been used for piano, guitar and p.a. (sax & vocals)

Have a word with Laurence at Overwater (on here as bassadder)

If you're anywhere near Harrogate you're welcome to try mine.

4. Why not try adding another cab to your combo for a fuller sound. Any 8 ohm cab will work. The GK MBX is a good choice.

If you want to try other cabs, i.e. Acoustic Image, Phil Jones, Markbass or p.a. cabs you can bypass the internal speaker and just use the extension cab for your experiments.

Other combos such as certain Phil Jones, Acoustic Image and Markbass etc would give you a fuller sound without going for separates.

If you like GK then a MB200 head and Epifani UL110 is be a a nice lightweight combination.

I've tried too many to list here but I'd be happy to chat later.

5. I like the sound of those GHS pressure wounds in the vid, I'll look into getting a set, maybe a 5 string set so I could try them on the Wal and Fender.

Meanwhile I've just got a set of double ball La Bella flats for my Steiny L2 fretless. They've transformed the instrument, which I never really got on with.

I was looking at selling it but I'm loving it, playing it seated without the strap boomerang attached. It sits quite nicely with the plug in leg attachment.

6. Hi Chris,

all's well thanks. How are things your way?

I've had other probs with PJB stuff, my Super Flightcase had an intermittent crackle, it's sorted now by replacing the power section at my cost.

The cabs are amazing, as is the SFC now it doesn't crackle.

I'd like your SLB200 but I don't need it, so can't convince Mrs Bassman unless I move something else on.

K

7. Anyone got one yet?

I've got one but I'm getting a loud hum with Fender type passive basses, and a lower level hum with a Shadow SH950 or Wilson upright transducers.

With active Steinbergers it's silent, as is with a Bassmax upright transducer.

The noise is audible with headphones.

The BG-75 has an external power block and I suspect that might have something to do with it.

Did a TDF trio gig (vocals, piano, bass) where I thought I might have to walk to the venue, so I took the BG-75 & my fretless Steinberger and it coped very well. The piano player was sat behind the combo and loved the sound of it.

8. I used DR HiBeams or Sunbeams on my Wals for a while, they were great.

I bought them direct from Pete Stevens.

When I asked Pete to supply me with more he told me that he'd put in a huge order for DR strings, handed over several hundred pounds in cash to someone at DR, never to receive the strings.

This nearly ruined him financially so I decided not to use DR ever again, no matter how good they are.

9. I'm looking for a 45 - 105 (130) set for fretless basses that will sing a bit with not to much mwah, and not chew up the fingerboard.

I've got what I believe to be Thomastik flats on my Wal 5, (red silks) they feel nice but I can't get on with the sound.

On my Fender P/J Ive got Status half wounds which are ok but a bit too high tension, not enough growl.

I don't want to sound like Jaco or Pino, I suppose I'm after a more upright sound.

I've also tried those black ones and don't like them.

10. Yes, I've known Dave for about 30 years, we've bought, sold, traded, swapped, borrowed, loaned and given many bass related items to / from each other.

I can't believe he's selling this bass, although he does tend to play more upright nowadays.

I also know Steve Phillips who did the ebony fingerboard, a true craftsman and talented blues guitarist.

Steve's carried out fingerboard improvements and a re-finish for me in the past.

Hi!

As a classical player I use a Steinberger CR 5 M for practising - and sound experiments. You can get a neck heel here: http://www.gollihurm..._CR_BASSES.html .

More EUBs? http://ebass.nl/models/

The pickups of the Yammys are really very bad regarding the prize of the instruments IMHO.

Best

The OP question was "How much can it will be close to real double bass?"

12. The SLB100 doesn't just feel like a real DB but it balances so well, it doesn't have the tendency to spin like many of the lighter weight E.U.B.'s (including the SLB200)

The factory electrics sound good for arco but dreadful for pizz, but it's easy enough to add a pickup to improve as Beedster and myself have done.

They are quite heavy but if it's for home use then that shouldn't be a problem.

I also own a Clifton which has the body extentions, sounds great with a Wilson K4 pick up and is lightweight but I prefer the neck and feel of the Yammy.

I'll be playing the Yammy tonight at the Harrogate Brasserie

13. In my experience the EUB that feels closest to the real thing is the Yamaha SLB100

It was designed for classical players to practice in silence.

I use one (with modified electrics) on many of my gigs in preference to an acoustic.
