New Zoom B3
I've used the fuzz face sim which is the only fuzz sim on the B2.1u. I think it sounds good with some clean blended back in.
Cheers Mike, but it's the "Gated Fuzz" type thing that the Ultra Fuzz thing does that I'm keen on trying you see. Just interesting that they discountinued it and have omitted it from their multi effects... Eude

    New Zoom B3

Do any of the Zoom products do a good version of the "Zoom Ultra Fuzz UF-01"? ( http://www.samsontech.com/zoom/products/guitar-effects/uf01/ ) I've never tried one, and they don't make them anymore, but it was meant to be a very VERY good fuzz, especially for bass... Eude
  3.
I've heard the price point is great, but some of them aren't made so well...bit of a gamble. BUT, I think thats part of why they have changed to manufacturing near their head office.
Cheers for the advice, just skimmed some fairly lenghty threads about the MBE range on Talkbass. Seems they have all the same drivers as the equivalent in the NEO range, but without the biamp facility (where appicalble), and the NEO has a high quality horn and crossover vs the piezo tweeter in the MBE. They're assembled using the same grade of ply, the NEOs built and braced for strength and the MBEs built for lightweight. You're right about the QC on the current models though, for every thread about how good the cabs are, there's several moaning about build problems and modding them, adding in acoustic wadding to deal with boominess, can't find a single complaint about the NEO cabs though, seems they're regarded as very high end kit I'll hang fire for the US made MBE cab, which suits me fine as it'll be a few months before I'll be in a position to do anything anyway... Cheers, Eude
  4.
I doubt it will be much, and I think the quality will be much better. Not due to the fact its in USA but because Gallien has more control over it.
Cool, thanks for the input mate Have you had any experience of these cabs, or know of anyone who has?... Eude
  5.
This shape must be my favorite ACG design. Very nice bass :-)
Thanks man, I love it so much Alan's making me another >> http://basschat.co.uk/topic/130449-acg-finn-sc-6er/ Eude
  6.
Eude - I'd wait til the new USA made ones hit the UK
Ah, bit will they be more expensive? At the current price point, they're incredibly tempting...
  7. I like the look of dem MBE Cabs! I like them alot! I'm going to up my amp a little later this year, and was hoping to go for a very light upright 2x12 with a micro head. A 212MBE with an MB500 or a MB500 Fusion might be just the trick! Anyone tried the MBE Cabs? Are they up to task, or should I save up for a better cab? Eude
  8.
Top banana, Ewan. Can't wait to see her finished (and in the wood, maybe?). Have some super-secret news, will keep you posted
Of course Sean, be happy to show it off when I get it Looking forward to hearing this "news"! Eude
  9.
The Maruszczyk instruments are the main area of inquiry for me. The problem is, the more I look at their site the more customised I want to make the bass, and the price goes up. I've tried out a Yamaha TRB6P from the first series made (slightly shorter scale) to see how I might get on with an extended range instrument. I liked the extended range but found the scale still didn't suit me. Still, a worthwhile experiment. Easily one of the finest instruments I have laid hands on. I just keep on getting chicken when it comes to instruments that are customised or non-production. It's so much easier to sell a production instrument if there's something I don't like, and I'm still learning about what exactly it is I like in an instrument, even after all these years. I find it hard to think of parting with the money for a custom and getting it wrong. Doing a big band gig tonight with my Fender JB62-M, my medium scale (32") jazz, and every time I pick it up it just feels 'right'. It's absolutely great with the preamp (J-Retro) in there. No-one ever seems to notice in a band/gig context whether the scale length of the bass makes much odds, and it says 'Fender' on it so everyone is familiar/comfortable with that. I have found a 30" production 6 string for sale that I am discussing with the seller. Interesting, seems worth a try....http://www.rondomusic.com/hxb406natbshort.html Pete
Hey Pete, Had no idea the original TRBs had a shorter scale, sub 34"? I see what you mean with regards to your bass situation, it would be madness to go down a customised route if knowing you weren't entirely sure what you need/want. I personally have done that, maybe to a lesser degree as I've got along, and it's an expensive process. I've definitely settled on 33" these days, don't see me trying anything else now, if I could've justified keeping my ol' Shuker Jazz I would've but finances dictated otherwise, I'll be ordering a more old school styled 33" 4 string at some point again. If you're keen to try a shorter 6 string, then I would certainly give that Rondo Music one a go, not a huge gamble case wise, they get fairly favourable reviews over on Talkbass, and if you decided to sell, even on here, I reckon you'd get a few bites out of curiosity, me being one If you do get round to it, I think Maruszczyk would do you a 30" 6 string Jazz, so you might be able to sneak that past the other Jazzers Cheers, Eude
  10.
Could you please direct me to one of these in the Classifieds as I want a Thumb.
None there at the moment, but they come and go fairly frequently. Keep yer eyes peeled Eude
  11.
I agree with you on that point. But surely they have always been expensive?
You might be right dude, I think, like I mentioned in a previous post, the ability to discuss the pros and cons of any bass or bass related purchase with people from all over the world really makes you think twice. Perhaps in the grand scheme of things, they're not actually that much more expensive, but we are all a bit wiser... Eude
  12.
This, OTOH, doesn't work out. £1300 from 1998 is worth £1,859 today so that model has gone up by nearly 24% . There's also the change in the exchange rate to consider. 10 years ago the Euro rate was about 1.6. It's now only about 1.2. That's a decrease of around 25%. Does that mean the first example has gone down in price and the second one remained about the same?
Regardless of all the fancy maths, plain and simple, these basses are just "too expensive" now, and the replacement Korean made ones at the original price point, regardless of whether they cut the mustard or not, are always going to be viewed as sub par by comparison, at least by folks in the know, to the now insanely priced originals. If they'd managed to keep the same woods and finishes and out sourced the manufacture, I think it would've gone down OK, but it's now a step too far from "the sound of wood" if you ask me. Shame Eude
  13. Here's an immaculate Thumb from 89 for €1550! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/159036-warwick-thumbass-4nt-89-to-sell/ I guarantee that would whip the ass off any of the new ones and, again it's less than half the price! Eude
  14.
That Warwick Anniversary Streamer is really nice! A bit out of my price range though... As a matter of interest how much would a Streamer from the 80s be worth these days?
If you're lucky, you could probably find an OK one for under £1000, from what I've seen on here anyway, worst case £1500 I reckon. Probably about a 1/3 of the cost of that anniversary one... Eude
  15.
Because people will pay it.
Will they? I wouldn't. Like I said in a previous post, I paid £1300 for a Thumb Bolt-On back in 1998, mainly because I'd idolised Warwick basses for so long. In hindsight, I don't really think it was worth £1300, and no way a modern equivalent is worth £2300! I think the explosion of the net in the bass playing community will probably steer people away from spending that kind of money on a Warwick bass these days. Just like in this thread, if someone mentions they're planning on buying a new Warwick bass, plenty of peeps will chime in to direct them to the pre 2000 Thumb Bass NT's sitting in the "For Sale Section" for under £1k. I'd like to own a Warwick again at some point, but it will definitely be a pre owned pre 2000 Thumb NT or a Dolphin. Eude
  16. Hey Pete, how'd you get on in the search for your "very specific" bass then?... Eude
  17.
7.5k for a rob trujillo sig bass...... definitely gone mental.
Or 2 Ritters, or maybe a Fodera?...
  18. You could get a freakin' Ritter for substantially less than any of the signature models! They've definitely gone mentile. Eude
  19.
Thanks! I hope it's not a typo! Couldn't see the price but i'll take your word (as my searching skills are clearly wanting )
Here you go man >> http://www.warwick.de/media/prices/Rockbass_UK.pdf
  20. Here's the bass in question >> http://www.warwick.de/modules/produkte/produkt.php?cl=EN&katID=24308 You can get the price off the website too, no actual shops with them online yet though, so it might be a typo... Eude
  21. I bought a Thumb BO 5 string back in 1998 new from the Bass Centre for just under £1300. I've just looked at the pricelist, no way I would pay £2269 for one now! You could have a completely hand made custom bass made entirely to your own specs with much nicer wood and any construction method for a fair bit less than that these days. Maybe they have gone mental afterall... Eude
  22. I agree that their high end prices have become isane, but I'm pleased to see they're producing some more affordable models. I know it looks like they've simply replaced their previous high end price point with cheaper Korean made ones, but at least they're trying to remain competetive while their German made prices are going sky high. I for one, am quite tempted by the 6 string Acoustic Alien, you can get 6 string Rockbass version for £869! Eude
  23. Any news matey?...
  24.
Just need to find the money for a fretted version now. Twins..... perfect.
It's an expensive habit!...
  25. That is one stunning bas mate! I've always thought a 6 string Precision Bass would be awesome, turns out I was right You're right about the black finish too, my old stealth Jazz the Jon made me was like an evil mirror! Eude
