Yup, both @Merton and I have been on Mark's back about this for a long while now. It's not something they're keen to do sadly. I know there was an ABM NEO a while back but that wasn't much smaller and had one of the older, not so good class D power stages, things have come a long way since then. I really think a downsized ABM with a compact but old school solid state power stage would sell so so well...

I think the only really unique thing in the marketplace here is that they are pushing the environmental angle, which is certainly a big plus in my book. Lightweight cabs, nothing new, however if they can build them better than GR, they score a point. Naming convention akin to the madness of how Chinese firms name their armies of mobile phones? Lose a point. The rest is just hot air. They do make good stuff, and I wish them all the best, I just felt after such a build up, things fell a bit short.

Loads of options out there, I've got a Rockboard and I just stuck the power supply to the underside with velcro >> Total self promotion here, but I have a Rockboard PSU for sale that would do the trick nicely, has all the cables and stuff you need too. >> It has 8 x 9V outputs and 2 x 18V, and fits very nicely under any of the Rockboards

I think folks will pay what they can for things, much like cars. Things are worth what they're worth to their target market. I am surprised that Jaydee don't charge more though...

TGI do not make short scale bass bags, regardless of what Bass Direct tell you They only make guitar and full scale bass bags, if your short scale bass has a minuscule headstock, or even better, is headless, it will fit in a TGI guitar bag though...

That's a tricky one, there's very little out there. Bags made for offset Fender guitars, Jags and Jazzmasters tend to fit pretty well though, I know Gator do one.

As a player of 5 and 6 string basses with 31.5" scale, I can wholeheartedly say that scale length is only part of the puzzle, doing the other bits well can make the effect of scale length fade away. I play ACG basses almost exclusively, but @Andyjr1515 took a huge 6 string bass I built myself and brought it back to life with a 31.5" scale neck to replace the 36" one I'd foolishly gone for. The low B on that is lovely too. In isolation, the low B on a 35" or 36" is always going to be better, assuming the bass has been built properly with considered material choice and decent construction, but in almost every other context, you'll be glad you went for a shorter scale 😎

There has been mention of a class D Handbox on their site for some time, does anyone have any experience of it?

I think it's safer to say, "heavy wood sounds like this", "hard wood sounds like this" etcs. In my experience, I know I like the sound of a heavier body, with a hard top and fingerboard, in a bolt-on flavour.

I do think it's part of it yes I expect there's a special sauce being brought to the table with the Wal pickups and preamp, that's undeniable, but I also think a lot of what people want to hear is being effected by materials, construction and technique. It's also extremely rare for bass to be recorded in any kind of virginal context, unaffected by anything else as part of a signal chain.

How I've been using this bass is exactly that, using a tone along these lines, then into a SansAmp BDDI v2 before hitting the amp, to add a bit of hair and I absolutely love it! I do honestly think though, that a lot of that BSSM tone is in the right hand attack though.

I will have a go at this when I can matey, although I was trying to get as close as I could just via the onboard preamp. I should be able to do something along these lines on the Mac though, will let you know once I've had a go. Cheers, Eude

Thank you @funkle, I just remembered that I had promised to try and do something like this AGES ago The Ubers are expensive, but still significantly cheaper than a new, or even an old Wal, with a significantly shorter wait time than ordering new I do appreciate that it's a big investment regardless. Bit late, but I did promise some recordings of my ACG Uber Finn with the DFM 5K preamp and MC Series pups. It's the one on the left here >> Just for the nerds here, the bass has a mahogany body, with a very hard katalox top, a super tight bolt on neck joint, with threaded inserts and bolts, 5 piece red oak/bubinga neck and a pau ferro fingerboard. The real reason for sharing the specs is that I really think that construction and technique play as big a part here as the preamp. I did a few quick and dirty snippets of some BSSM lines, I think it's getting quite close. The bass is recorded direct into GarageBand with no effects of processing whatsoever. The pickups are pan 50/50, both filters are wound back a little, about 25% and the resonant peaks maxed out, the treble stack is out of the equation and I've dialed the passive tone off a bit, as it's a very bright bass and I was giving it some with my right hand.
