  1. +1 also fancy wood basses where the use of fancy wood is for no other purpose than to show off the fact that you can use fancy wood. Fancy wood where it's being used as part of the construction, or as a "tone wood" sounds good. thick poly finishes. Anything with hardware that is like chocolate on a hot day when you get a screwdriver near it. bad font choices in logos. eg Valenti with his logo in Optima EMG pickups. I've tried, not my thing
  2. what he said!
  3. +1 It goes straight into marketing but I think the odd thing about this thread is how unexcited the tone is. chowny are making better instruments, in a better way and here in the U.K. to drive better quality. It’s something to be excited about and use as a basis to sell from.
  4. I found this interesting take on music plagiarism
  5. I’m sure Wal would build him a Wal in his favourite shade of Volvo blue - but I suspect that the company being willing to build isn’t the sticking point for most of us buying a Wal or Fodera
  6. Ild love to go around some of the U.K. luthiers with a camera and do similar - partly cos it would be interesting but also cos the marketing of smaller companies like this typically isn’t as good in the U.K. as US
  7. And for what it’s worth - only ever picked up one fodera, and played it unplugged in bass gear for a wee bit. It was nice, not ever seen many I would ever want to own apart from a few of the standard or standard specials which looked nice
  8. Nice wee video I watched on my lunch break showing the fodera workshop. Sorry if someone’s already posted it, I did a wee search but couldn’t see it
  9. my Lakland 55-94 is 9lb ish (I've not super accurately weighed) I've got a East Uni pre in it ....I borrowed a Pre EB stingray for a bit and decided not to buy as I could dial a pretty similar tone in on the Lakland Also as well as weight balance is important - I've played some light basses that don't balance well and they were more of a pain than heavier ones that did.
  10. Hey man - how you doin'?

  11. 🤮 I tell you one thing, I personally am glad the smoking ban came in
  12. smoke damage from a fire?
  13. I’m sure someone who knows what they are talking about would know - but… can you add resonance to a HPF to recreate that shape? I guess if you are getting it into a computer and can run the audio through a some synth filter module it would simulate how you would do that analogually …
  14. Pretty colour G&L
  15. So you’re telling me that Basschat got closer to a lawsuit from Rickenbacker over 70s copies than the companies making them ever did 🤣
  16. I still keep looking at this!
  17. Ok take two... on it's own it sounds ok and is subtle. After other stuff it does lovely things.
  18. so this evening... Jon Willis has some new amp settings using two amps blocks... downloaded and tried them... he says "additional clarity and dimension" - sound ok... touch sensitivity when you dig in is different in a nice way. Not amazing. past future reverbs of Neve desk... longer than helix IRs so truncated... get the free EQ ones I linked too if you're interested first... I used to have a Helborg preamp that did lovely things to my sound, although not based on a Neve at all the nice thing was the tone of the transformer so that more warm studio transformers sound is something that has interested me ever since. Not enough to start buying studio gear but you know what I mean (though if you've got a hellebore pre spare.... get in touch) The EQ ones I had had for ages and not really played with them - when I was messing around with some patches I copied an amp block into a patch I had already and it sounded great... The IR was on... it just seemed to hold together nicely. These ones are cleaner but add something almost inperceptable. I don't know, I was playing and it's the sound of a clean preamp strip... but things sound a bit nicer with it on. Worth the £10? Probably not, the free ones are nice enough.. I'll find out...
  19. Looks lovely 🥰
  20. fixed!
  21. Lovely- this won’t be here long. Ild be interested if I could shift something quick enough but I’ve a feeling this will go quick!
  22. What @Owen said also it’s ok, sometimes depending on the band your worship may be desperately trying to keep a band in time with one another, other times it’s to create something to help others, sometimes if you’re practiced enough as a band you get to feel like you are connected, and sometimes putting the bass down and singing (ie not into a mic) and being part of it models and helps everyone else. Don’t worry about it. my one suggestion would be before the meeting take some time to worship for yourself. For me it looks like a quiet house before everyone is up and a quiet cup of coffee others will do other things

    Limelight

I dunno I've seen some Fenders which look completely fake relicing too - I think the problem is that given a choice folk go "for the more is better" - when as @wateroftyne has demonstraited sometimes less is way way more
  24. why not just buy a G&L?
