1. At the risk of great mockery I'm going to ask anyway! I have a Marshall MB30 and an old Carlsbro Bassline 300. What I'm wondering is can I use them together to get the pre-amp stage from the Marshall and the power-amp and speaker from the Carlsbro? The Marshall has a "line out" socket, (the manual suggests this for plugging into a multi-track recording machine). If I take a lead from there and plug it into the input on the carlsbro will it just blow up? Not rushing to try it but I am curious and do tend to try things if I'm not told not to! Thanks.
2. Can't pretend to be qualified enough to say who I think was better. I'm a big fan of JPJ but would always have huge respect for those who have gone before. On the Dusty Springfield topic though the bassline in "Son of a Preacher man" is mighty, well worth a listen. Someone mentioned Noel Reading earlier, I'd just have to say that I think Billy Cox was the only bassist who did Hendrix justice (apart from himself of course). Billy Cox wasn't too fancy but any Hendrix tune with him behind it has the funk it needs.
3. Thanks zero9, might not try it so! I'll see about some low tension steels. Cheers.
4. Thanks zero9. I was hoping to use a set that came off my electric which are 45-105 roto's. Is there a danger that with more tension it might pull the bridge off? It's a cheap bass so don't know if it's all that well made! Thanks again.
5. Quick simple question; Is it ok to put steel strings on an acoustic bass guitar? Need to replace the bronze strings that are on it but wasn't really gone on the sound of them, so can I use regular strings or will it cause issues. Thanks all.
6. Thanks for the replies. Will just live with it for now, might look at replacing pickups in the future. Seems a lot of people change out MIM pickups anyway. Just have to make my amps work harder! Thanks all.
7. Thanks Chrismuzz, Have tried all sorts of combinations with the volume (and tone). There just isn't the same output from it. With the same amp I'd have to use an extra 25% volume to get the same level. Is it maybe just weak pickups?
8. Might be a daft question but here goes. I recently bought a MIM jazz to replace an old P-copy and the jazz is not as loud the P. Any ideas why this would be and if there's anything I could do to get more volume from the jazz? (I have the pickups as close to the strings as I can). Thanks all.
9. Anything by Willie Dixon. Well known and you'd find any number of versions to listen to. I ain't superstitious. Little red rooster. Spoonful. Back door man. The list goes on, covers by a lot of well known sixties bands.
10. Recently got a jazz after having a p-copy for years. Really like the slimmer neck, still find myself twiddling with the knobs looking for the best sound though. All down to what feels right to your hands and your ears. In an ideal world I'd go for a jazz neck and a p body.
11. I bought roto's for my first change of strings in years. Was looking for a 70's sound so thought I'd buy strings that have been around since then. Do seem to be hard on the frets and I don't have much fret left in places. Anyone recommend a 70's sounding string that's kinder to the frets?
12. You could try VERY careful use of cellulose thinners (if you can get it these days). It's a strong solvent that might lift the black paint before it eats the old finish. Nasty stuff but used carefully might be better than sanding.
13. Thanks for the replies. Would love a custom scratchplate but might be dressing mutton as lamb in my case. Will take a punt on the ebay guy. Thanks guys.
14. I'm looking to get a new scratchplate for a fender style bass, the fender ones seem to be about £40, but there are unbranded ones on ebay for more like £12. Are the fender ones really £28 better? Don't want to buy something that looks like crap, but then again £40 is a lot of money for a bit of plastic. Anyone got any advice? Thanks.
15. I've found that with rehearsals it's not beers that's the problem. It's focus, or the lack of it that makes the difference. With the band I played in last year we almost always had a few drinks during rehearsal, but if we had no gigs booked then more often than not there was a lot of chat and not much practice, if we had a gig at the weekend we practiced like nobody's business. There's no harm in a social rehearsal now and again, but you want to feel you're getting somewhere.

17. Very pricey "buy it now" for a standard mex then!
18. Was looking at this; http://www.ebay.co.u...#ht_1649wt_1175 If it's a reissue shouldn't it have the period decal on the front and the s/n on the back? I'm no expert so I might be just plain wrong. See what you think yourselves! Been trying to buy a bass for a while, and at this stage I just don't trust anything I see on ebay anymore.

22. If you get a good join and insulate them from each other it should work fine.
23. Thanks for the reply, didn't realize anyone used them at all. I'm more used to auto electrics, where you can solder, use connectors or even just twist them together. I thought there might be a solid reason not to use connectors, I find them very handy to use, and of course really easy to disconnect. Cheers.
24. Hi, just have what is probably a really stupid question, but still want to ask it. Why is the wiring in guitars always soldered, is there a reason not to use spade connectors? Just seems that it would make changing pups an pots much easier. Anyone know? Thanks all.
