2. Cheers Simon. I was reading that JohnK (the guy on Talkbass who builds Fender style basses) uses these necks, strips them, reshapes and nitro's them. Time will tell if I get on with the neck thickness! Yeah, looking forward to the Rio's myself! They seem fairly rare, especially over here, but I've heard nothing but good things.
3. Few bits starting to arrive now. UPS just dropped off the neck which looks a beauty. It is definitely thicker than 'normal', but I'm sure we'll be fine. Never seen or used any Allparts stuff before, but it looks great quality, superb finish. Looking forward to getting it on the body! Nothing too special - great service as usual from Touchstone Tonewoods. I had the shipping notifiation from Custom World Guitar Parts today for the the odds and sods, so hopefully they'll turn up by next week. Been in touch with KiOgon for a wiring loom as well. I have previously attempted doing them myself, but my soldering skills are something to be desired, so leaving it to the pro! That's all for now. Once everything is here, I can make a start on putting it together.
4. Hi all, I thought it was about time I set up a thread to document me putting together a 70's style Fender Jazz. The idea is to build a bass with a definite nod to the 70's, but with a few tweaks to make it into a bit of a beast! The idea started when I saw an original 1973 Jazz body come up on Talkbass. It's in a 'well-used' condition, but I thought it looked great. Ash body in black, doesn't really feel heavy at all which is always nice. Here's a few pictures. Well used, right? So once this arrived, after paying £100 to good friends at HMRC, my mind got to thinking about what I could do with it. I've always liked the look of the black and maple 70's Jazzes, and despite having owned numerous Jazz basses over the years, I've never had one with a maple neck. So this morning I pulled the trigger on one of the Allparts bound and blocked necks in pearloid. I've heard some mixed reviews ranging from 'best neck I've ever owned', to 'almost sent it back it was too big'. I've got big hands and played P Basses for many years without issue, so I'm hoping it'll be fine. This is just a standard pic, but it'll look like this... Deviating from the 70's, I found a pair of Rio Grande "Muy Grande" Jazz pickups on reverb.com. They are NOS and date to 2007, never been used. I stupidly owned a set of these years ago, never installed them, and sold them on, so never heard them in action, but they're overwound meaty pickups, so I'm hoping they'll go well towards making the beast growl! Hardware will be Schaller 3D bridge and I ordered some Schaller BMFL tuners this morning, as well as other bits; black pickguard, screws, nut etc, so they should all be coming in the next week or two, along with the neck. I'll update this thread as bits arrive and I can get started on the build. Cheers all and hope you enjoy!
5. Bump! Would take £500 for it, but don't want to go less than that. Will probably stick it on Ebay this weekend if no takers
6. Cheers Bubinga. I didn't think it would be here very long, but I'm in no rush. Maybe just a slow month for buying!
7. Hi all, To make room for some recent purchases, I'm selling my Fender Japan Factory Special Run Jazz Bass. This is a MIJ reissue of a 62 Jazz, but the body and neck are stained to look like Walnut. As it's a Factory Special Run, I believe it means they're a limited edition run of basses, and I haven't seen too many around. The bass has an ash body and maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, and I've owned since January this year when I bought it new from Promenade Music in Morecambe. Hardware is a smoky chrome and it has a single ply black pickguard which sets everything off nicely. Pickups are nice and powerful and everything sounds as it should do. Despite the back of the neck being lacquered, there's no 'stickiness' which was one of my concerns when I was first looking into buying the bass. One minor issue is on the neck joint where some of the paint has chipped off. This happened when I was removing the neck, but other than that, the bass is in excellent condition. I have attached a picture to show this. It's only small, maybe 6/7mm, but worth mentioning. I used to have a Schaller 3D bridge on this bass which required me to drill 2 extra bridge holes. These can't be seen with the bridge on and the work is clean so won't cause you any issues. It now has the original bridge back on. I don't have scales here, but it's pretty light - perhaps around 8-8.5lb. No issues with it on the strap. I paid £730 for the bass at the beginning of the year so I think the price point is about right, considering how little it's been used, as well as it being a special run. I also understand that Fender Japan is no longer producing instruments, so it'll be a rare old girl one day! Bass is for sale for £550 !!SOLD!! - I'm not looking for any trades thanks Please take a look at the pictures below. If anything, it's slightly darker in real life than the pictures show, however I think you'll agree it's a beautiful instrument. Collection is always welcome from Lancaster, or I can post it within the UK. I have a gig bag I can throw in as well. Cheers all

9. Hi all, I'm moving on my Mighty Mite maple Jazz Bass neck. Recently imported from the States, it's never been installed on a bass and never had any hardware fitted so no screw holes. It's in brand new condition. It's got a satin finish so nice a quick, and has nice figuring in the maple. For sale for £70, can be picked up from Lancaster or can post to the UK for £10. Cheers for looking, here's a few pics. 10. Great colour Looking forward to this one!
11. Thanks Rumple - that's "guitarbuild" that's mentioned above Manton - cheers for the offer. Will PM you in the next day or two
12. Cheers guys. I had a guitarbuild body a while back and it needed work on the neck pocket to get it just right, so umming and arring about that. I did consider a Warmoth with no pickup routing done but might prove costly by the time I've got it over here then paid someone to route it for me. Just found this chap on ebay in Italy http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/salvatoresalvo777 seems like it may be an option...
13. Hi all, Having a think about a new project to start. I'm wanting an Ash jazz body, top routed but with custom pickup routes. I've got a set of Gibson G3 pickups on their way which I want to use, but no company offers those routes. Anyone on here who builds bodies be able to help? Cheers
