Hi all, It's with a heavy heart I have decided to move on my 1976 Gibson Grabber G-3. I've had it about a year and it has been well looked after, however it came to me in pieces from the States. I did a build thread which can be found here, http://basschat.co.u...ibson-g-3slowly and you can see the condition I received it. Supposedly it was left in someones cupboard for many years. The restoration was completed by Jack at Jack's Instrument Services in Manchester who did a superb job. Quite a few bits needed to be replaced or repaired. Here's a quick list of what was done: New maple fretboard New pickguard - Chandlers in the USA New Badass II Bridge New electronics - all CTS pots and Switchcraft jack Back of neck was re-lacquered and new serial number and decals It was missing the bridge and bridge cover, which I why I went with the Badass. It also looks like it was refinished at some point. It's not the best paint job ever, but it's certainly not the worst and is suitably worn for a 39 year old bass. There's a couple of nicks and chips, mostly near the bottom of the bass, biut nothign major. I've tried to capture all these points in the photos. Thankfully, the original pickups were fine and just needed to have the lead wires extended on them. This bass has the 'buck and a half' pickup selectors which basically means all 3, neck and middle, or middle and bridge. Tone is great on all options, but I love all 3 pickups on. Sounds 'Fendery', but with a really kick and snarl. Tuners have taken a battering in their life, but were cleaned up and work fine. One or two are slightly winky on the tuning 'shaft' but doesn't affect anything. One small issue is there was an extra fretboard marker hole drilled when the new fretboard was made - this wasn't done by Jack's Instrument Services in Manchester, however he did do a great job at covering this up. It's right up high on the neck and not noticeable when playing, but wanted to mention it for transparency. The bass is in Lancaster, and collection is most welcome. I can deliver within reason for petrol money, but get in touch and we can sort something. I'm not opposed to shipping, but would rather avoid as I don't have a case for it, but we can cross that bridge. I'm a bit unsure on how to price, as it's a vintage Gibson, but obviously not original and mint, so I'm after £700 collected which is less that what I paid for it for parts, shipping, customs and the restoration works. Everyone likes pictures, so here's a few. Thanks all And this is the fretboard hole which was filled in... Hi folks, Called into Promenade Music in Morecambe yesterday as I saw they've just got one of these in stock. Had my eye on them for the past couple of months, so once it had arrived, I needed to check it out. It has an Ash body and rosewood board and it really kicks it out. Sounds nice and powerful and it was setup great thanks to Gary at Promenade. It seems these are relatively rare in the UK and I think this one is from one of the first batches to come here. Few other places now have one or two in stock. Neck is maple, but is finished in Walnut, so combined with the chrome/black hardware, it's a really dark looking bass, but looks great IMO. I was worried the lacquered neck might make it bit sticky to play, but it's fine. Single ply matt black pickguard really sets it off too. Not sure on the weight, but it's light, and the grain in the wood is really beautiful. Getting a slight bit of hum so might shield it in the future, but nothing that can't be sorted easily. Can't recommend Promenade enough for excellent service and stock. Good chaps in there. Here's a couple of pictures. Cheers all. Picked this up a couple of weeks ago. Sounds awesome...70's Matamp GT100

I was thinking about this the other day. Wasn't it priced at same as an Ad200, or even more? Decent sounding amp from the clips but hard to see how they could justify the price.

Hi all, This was part of a Jazz bitsa I was doing, but I've changed my mind on the type of neck I'm using so it's up for sale. It's a maple/rosewood neck with binding, ala 1966 Jazz basses. Very classy, and seemingly quite difficult to get hold of on the market. This neck has never been installed, so is in excellent condition. It's got a tinted finish and as you can see in the pictures, the flame in the neck really pops out. The rosewood is nice and dark and all frets/truss etc are in great condition and working as they should. Binding looks great and tuner holes are 17.5mm so fit standard tuners. The neck was modded to have neck bolts, which ensures a solid fit and is a much stronger connection than regular neck screws. I will include 4 bolts with the neck so that it can be fitted to any bass. Width at the heel is just about 63.5mm so will fit nicely with a Fender pocket. One minor issue is that it seems about 1-2mm taller than a Mighty Mite neck Ive also got, so it sits very slightly higher than a regular neck. Might mean you need to raise your bridge a tad, but other than that, no issues. No idea where the neck was made. A guy was selling them on ebay a while back and he worked round the corner from me so I took a punt. Any questions, please ask. I took a few pics for your enjoyment. It's for sale for £75, plus a fiver for shipping, or can be collected in Lancaster. Thanks all.
Presumably because you can't pick it up? Just joshing - it looks fantastic and I bet it sounds totally the business.
It's not bad at all actually. That 810 on the other hand...
-
Yeah I saw that on the Matamp page. Great score on that one. I'll perhaps own one one day
-
Thanks Dave. Cab is a replica of an Ampeg 'straightback' 810 which I bought a few weeks back. And it's not your eyes! It has a fancy, almost flowery tolex in it. Sounds a bit naff, but looks great in person. Are you the Dave with the OR200? Dream amp!

These are a couple from the 'for sale' ad. Hope they help...I'm not too much into opening up valve amps

Been after an old Matamp or Orange lately, and this came up on the Matamp Facebook group this week so nabbed it. Picked it up today and it sounds immense. Well worn, but you would expect that from a 40 year old amp. Currently fitted with JJ EL34's in the power section, she's shaking the room with volume at 9 oclock Can't see this going anywhere for a long time!
