Hey all, recently brought a candy Apple red jazz,it has plenty of light scratches so I got thinking,I have read abit online but its hard to get proper info.has anyone wet sanded their bass back to a more dull, nitro ish finish? As well as potentially looking really nice and 'light reliced',it should remove a good few light scratches too. I was going to wet sand lightly with 2000 grit until the shine has gone down to matt then polish to a 'dull shine' Cheers

Musicman sterling, nice sanded down finish too so really fast

It's a shop so will be more but that seems a tad high imo, think they are 690 new,I would offer them 400 and hope they come down abit. If that's the going rate I got a serious deal :-) check the knobs as one of the vol and the bass one on mine are really easy to turn,as in a mouse's cough would move it,worth checking. Here's mine

Had a Stingray... suggestions for new bass?
clashcityrocker replied to Daniel C-J's topic in Bass Guitars
I have a mm sterling (bit different but..) and a fender jazz,I would say the sterling is 10 times better in every way than the jazz. I think MM are just in a different league, get another stingray,in a different as not to offend the memory of your old one -
The active deluxe jazz comes in vintage white (yellowy cream) if I remember correctly. That would explain the 4 knobs too. I have one, nice basses just give it a once over for the sometimes-dodgy quality control. Simon Edit -and mine doesn't have thru body stringing

Thanks for the replies chaps. Think I will try the felt suggestion as I am prone to losing patience and breaking stuff (ie the pots) Si

As above really, got a jazz active and my first gig with it last night I noticed how worryingly easy the volume knob moves itself (and the stacked bass/treble) the other two knobs are nice and stiff. Any idea how to stiffening it up?took the control plate off and was scared off by the millions of wires! Thanks alot

The body is sprayed and free if you pay postage or collect. Neck also for sale on here cheers Si

Fr sale or swap is a maple mighty mite licensed precision neck with fender logo. I brought the neck 7 years from the usa (it was my first ebay usage so should still be on there). Good condition, decal is laquered over, not a bad job but not amazing. More pics off of body tomorrow. £50 posted seem fair? Or swap for a badass bridge or gotoh, reverse vintage tuners or anything else to pimp my new jazz. The body in this pic is sprayed squier body and free collected. Pick up for sale here too. 2013 Sterling by Musicman basses, inc a fretless Ray34CA
clashcityrocker replied to dave_bass5's topic in Bass Guitars
Yeah,I have a MM sterling so love the thinner necks and the pick up switcher thingy (technical term there) is awesome, apparently one of the settings gives a ray sound, although iv never played one so can't confirm. there was a ray34ca in sunburst for sale on here for 400 odd. Was very tempted myself -

No SB14s?! I still need to get myself one of the CAs (active n jazz neck mmmm) just want a black black maple one -
Would of thought a 2x12 would be more than 60w? Seems pretty over the top for a not-too-loud amp.

I had a Squier vm 5 string for a few weeks (decided 5 string wasn't for me) but I thought it was a brilliant bass, really well put together and looks stunning in natural/maple. I have no idea if the B string was a good one as thats the only 5 iv played but seemed fine

Shut the curtains, pull the phone off the hook and make some sweet sweet music...... I love a happy ending!

this puts me off of fenders just a tad..
clashcityrocker replied to clashcityrocker's topic in Bass Guitars
As far as I understand, Musicman make mass production basses but I've never seen a Stingray with neck pocket issues!
i think musicman is in a different league. only recently have they cottoned on to the 'cheaper' bass market with the sterling series and now the sub series. also there are no 'licensed, parts available for MM (as far as i know). but at the end of the day fender must make soooo much more money than MM and sadly thats what its about
