1. Bassmasta was always a good one for me, check it out
2. Thanks for all the replies so far, great stuff, keep them coming!
3. I kept having mine logging out previously, but it hasn't happened recently so i'll let the fix take some credit
4.
Slipknot's first album
That is an absolutely amazing album, if slightly aggressive, but it is miles better then their later stuff, love it!
5. I'm afraid it's the same situation in 'Rock Box' in Northallerton if anyone is familiar with that. The staff are awful, the amount of times i've been in there and been treated like a simpleton! I've just stopped going and now go to MorMusic in York - a fantastic shop!
6. Obviously the acoustics of where you are play a part, but the general modes you put your EQ to determines a basic sound, but even beginners will have a tweak based upon those settings until they get it to suit their surroundings. I'm just popping this up as a rough guide to starters, because i know when i first started playing bass i had no idea what to do with the nobs on my amp
7. I thought it would be interesting to see how everyone sets their amps up for playing, just state your loose music 'genre' and your favoured settings (Bass/Mids/Treble) for getting that tone, plus this could provide help to beginners who are trying to find the right sound for them! Thanks
8. I have to say i'm rather jealous! There won't be any stupid lack of bass through that unlike many docks these days too
9.
One song I never ever ever get tired of hearing the bass on is "Town called malice"
+1
Can't believe there's no love for Steve Harris in this thread!
There is! There is! Pick me! Pick me! Absolutely amazing bassist, I have been learning 'Fear of the Dark' and 'Aces High', brilliant bass and some cheeky rapid pulloffs for me to get my head around!
10. Carry On My Wayward Son - Kansas Say You'll Haunt Me - Stone Sour Stayin' Alive - Bee Gees (Yes, I went there!) Green Onions - Booker T. & The MG's Black Sunshine - White Zombie/Iggie Pop Orion - Metallica One - Metallica Blind Man - Black Stone Cherry
11.
I'll go first…. I'm fairly new to the band given a recent 'restructure'. The band is called Aphemia, consists of 5 members (Vocal/Guitar, Guitar, Drums, Synth, Bass) and we all reside around the Derby/Nottingham area, rehearsing in Derby. I would describe the music as Industrial/Synth driven Hard Rock. I guess it pays reference to lots of artists, but the thing that enticed me to join them was the fact that I didn't find it sounded too much like any one particular act. For anyone that thinks it might be their cup of tea, here's the Myspace - Aphemia Hope you all like it! Right, who's next…?
Sorry for backtracking the thread haha, but i was listening to this and i thought it was excellent, reminded me a lot of Disturbed mixed with the harsh effects and synths of Fear Factory - safe to say it's a damn good combination and definitely unlike any single band i've heard! Good job!
12. In the words of Shakespeare - 'The less you speak of your greatness the more I shall think of it'
13. For me it has to be John Myung of Dream Theater, technically speaking, he is perhaps the most proficient in the world, just listen to 'Panic Attack' and 'Monolith' - he is simply amazing, and his style is awesome!
14. Ugh. Heart Shaped Box - Nirvana. I ended up just creating my own version which was more interesting, much to the annoyance of the guitarist
15.
pity about the 'cock-rock' stance of the guitarist ..
Haha, welcome to the world of 'crab-coring' - ignoring that, Periphery are really good, you should check them out!
16. I would secure all your belongings which would be on your person with a chain or something of the like, Barcelona is renowned for pick-pocketers!
17. Personally, when I'm playing at home, I would kill for a 5 string, as I'm a total metal-head... It's an absolute pain tuning up and down frequently on my 4 string, and I sometimes end up with a problem of the flaccid nature (the bass string!!). However, this could be achieved a lot easier with an octave pedal, plus it saves you money on splashing out on a 5 string which you may find you are not suited to playing!
18. I normally either keep it in my mouth haha or in a back pocket simply because they are easy access!
19. Possibly the best advice my band got from a well-matured friend who plays guitar: "It is essential that the electric guitar leaves gaps in the music, increasing the chill out factor, adding depth to the music and leaving breathing space for the other musicians. A good guitar player will also not attempt anything he knows he probably can't achieve, stick with simplicity but every so often go to the point where you are reaching your max knowledge and comfort, then dip back down, it really adds weight!"
20. Haha did anyone see the picture of her in the morning, minus make up? Snapped by her darling husband Russell Brand too!
21. Hi chaps and chapettes, my band is currently just building up a few blues covers for emergency use etc, but are struggling! We are a 3-piece band, so no prog keyboard solos! So far we have done: Pride & Joy - Stevie Ray Vaughan Sweet Home Chicago - Blues Brothers Help! - The Beatles The Forecast Calls For Pain - Robert Cray Can anyone think of any chilled out blues we can cover?
22. Crazy as it sounds, i gained a lot from playing in church, as the guitarists are all nice enough fellows, have a brilliant understanding of music and are typically not the arrogant sterotype!
