When I gig, I get the soundman to take a DI. If he doesn't have his own box, I get him to take it pre-EQ from the amp. I also get him to mic my guitar amp (using this for the top end, but could be your tweeter/horn). Then I ask him to roll the top off the DI and the bottom off the mic, and this tends to work. Sometimes they'll think i'm telling them how to do their job, sometimes they'll appreciate that i'm helping them out. I generally just smile at them and be nice 'cos soundmen can be easily agitated.

I suppose you would need an exp pedal to take advantage of any whammy-like features. Otherwise, it make for a decent harmoniser (only tried it in the shop). You can use the hamonies for a more synthy tone than if you played them. There's a lot of hype about them, but there is about most discontinued boss pedals.

In my experience, no on stage, in house monitor can tickle my balls when playing the low b. We need backline!

If you have the DS-1, bottom feeder, and big muff all in one chain, blended with another chain with just the ODB-3, I reckon it'd sound monsterous!

If you like overdriving the input of your amp, I would get a boost and/or OD to go just before your amp, and plug the rest of your pedals (lbm) into this.

Indeed. I've never liked big muffs that much really. I'd like to try a little one, 'cos they're small enough to go on my board, but not really buying effects atm

What does the discombobulator do? If you bought a small tuner that would fit ontop of the psu, you might be able to squeeze an exp pedal on there for the boss wah - I love the range of possibilities this gives you.

There will be a volume drop with the big muff if the input is too hot and/or if you have the gain set too high. I suppose it's more of a "perceived volume drop". I'm not sure specifically why this is, but I have had the same problem with my guitarist's big muff. He solved it by realising that it sounds better, and it levels out the volume drop, when you turn down the gain. I'm sure someone has a better explaination/solution? There are no tubes in a little big muff!

I'm almost exactly the same as The Funk on this. I sit down with my guitar, or my bass, or at my drums (have a fat smoke) and play away. When I play something and i'm blown away, I record it on my phone. Around 30% of the stuff I record, I would actually use when i'm sober, the rest gets deleted as sh*t. I also "dream" around 5% of the stuff I write. This can be day-dreaming, but also more interestingly, REAL dreaming. This stuff is far more likely to be good - i.e I would use 100% rather than 30% of the stuff I record from day/dreams.

I think that every member in a band will always expect the same level of commitment from every other member, and so it can get really quite frustrating when the reality of the matter (everyone does things for their own reasons) hits you in the face. Our drummer left recently, and while it left me feeling angry and depressed - as though I had wasted too much of my time effort and money on a band that would eventually lead no-where - I realised at the same time that he had been committed enough to spend time money and effort on the band, and that his level of commitment was breached at a certain point due to outside circumstances - and that could happen to any one of us. So, yeh, it's an awful situation, but I don't think blaming the guy is the right and/or most sensible thing to do. -

I think a lot of bassists tend to be happy with one constant sound. That's cool for some, but I prefer to have variety. My bass tone contributes as much to the "arrangement" of a song as the dynamic feel, key, or tempo of an individual section i.e for a standard rock song I might have a mid boost for an intro riff, and then turn that pedal off so as not to crowd the vocal in the verse, then turn on some overdrive for the pre-chorus, and on top of that some bass boost for the chorus. It's what you'd do in the studio, so I don't get why you wouldn't want to do it live.

I would play with the odb-3 until you can get a good sound. Turn the gain down and the bass up!

I like to go and "jam" with my girlfriend, but I wouldn't want to be in a band that takes gigs and money etc seriously. It'd stress me out.

If you have more amp volume, you may feel like you have to play less hard, and that makes it easier to play - fair enough. However, I don't understand why people claim that this will yeild better tone, and is better technique in general. I like to play through overdrive which means that when I really dig in, I get rewarded by more dirt. Isn't this good technique? I like the sound of hard playing.

I bought a 4 string bass because it's what I thought I was supposed to do. I got bored really quickly and bought a 6 string. Admittedly I had been playing guitar for 8 years, but I found that the 6 string was much more of a challenege and interesting to play etc.
