1. Do you have any pictures of the actual unit? Cheers
2.
Think Basschatter 'Fingerz' could be the man to talk to: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=fingerz
Thanks for that. I have 'PM'd Fingerz' today. Cheers Blademan
3. Thanks once again for all this info. You soon start to realise, no matter what you know or think you know, there is so much to learn. I have read a few threads about various Jazz artists to listen to. I have also put a tutor wanted post in that section. Cheers Brian
4. Hi I am looking for a tutor in the Bucks area (I'm in Aylesbury). Really want to brush up on technique and expand my playing ability. A bit of theory also required If there is anyone near then drop me a line, cheers. Brian
5. I think I need to get some lessons from a real person! The book in question was Bass for Dummies! I will post the question of bass tuition in the relevant place and see if anyone around Buckinghamshire does lessons. All I want to be able to do is play something interesting at my local jam without it being Root / 5th plodding! When I try some twiddling around in a key it just sounds like a guitarist trying to play bass (which is what I am). Thanks for all your replies
6. Thanks for that. I think the difference between a musician and me is that I may be able to learn to play a tune but I don't think I will ever really understand it
7.
It hops.
My thoughts exactly
8. Hi Having read the thread about nuggets of wisdom and the subsequent discussion on Major thirds, I have a question. The only walking base lines I know go R, 3rd, 5th, 6th, b7th etc. Using the third over a major chord. (Major chords being made up of R, 3rd, 5th) I then read in a self help book that if you omit the third / flat third you can use a pattern in either major or minor key. All makes sense........ My question is, how does a walking bass line go without the third? Sorry if this is a silly question but I am still learning! Thanks Blademan
9. To be honest, I search Ebay for stuff and only look on this site at the adds in their relevant sections. To limit it to 50 posts is a fine idea, but it is easy to rack that up (I think I may have that already!) and I only joined a month ago This is a fantastic forum and I am enjoying the banter etc. As moderaters, can you not just have an approval system for newbies to post Ebay links, like with new membership? Just a thought (from a newbie) - Cheers Brian
10. Practice makes perfect It works! and it really does not matter when you start playing, if you practice enough, no matter how talentless you are, you will improve (I am living proof!)
11. I recently learned Pink Floyd's Money as my misses loves it. She actually doesn't like it any more as it took a while to get it right to the record. Drat....! I should have learned it with the headphones on
12. I wish I could use a pick! I don't use one for guitard either! It gets complaints all the time. You just can't dig in with fingers.

14. This is me with the fretless. It was my first gig playing it. The song was Nights in White Satin........ Not that I remember every little detail about that night
15. Hmmmm, just a tad over my price range... Now if Eric Clapton had personally finished it at the factory and would also deliver it personally I might...... er no lets not bother
16. I use a Korg Pandora (I have a PX3 and a PX4) They are great. Plug in your headphones and MP3, dial in a bit of chorus and off you go! I got one off Ebay second hand for £40. Just a brilliant bit of kit
17. I know 50w is tiny but the small gigs I play (with an acoustic partner) it's all I need The line out gives me the option to put it through the PA. Just what I was looking for! I was nearly swayed by the Ashdown 5 15 mini rig but I liked the tone from the Orange. Well happy!
18. I finally decided on an Orange Crush 50BXT for my amp. It has a line out, head phone socket and external speaker socket! Nice tone and at 50w it's quite loud It even has a built in tuner! Sorted.
19. I use Sony MDR-XD200 they are cheap but really comfortable for long sessions. I sit with my Pandora , Fretless and MP3 player and play into the night My misses starts work at 5:00am so goes to bed around 8:30pm! Quiet practice is all I get during the week, crank the amp at the weekend!
20.
Thanks Brian! Your sig asks "who needs frets?" I think maybe I do. But here's a question: Jaco switched back and forth between fretted and fretless -- he said he only played fretless on stage because the strings tear up the fingerboard -- so is that just for geniuses like him, or could anybody regularly play both without much difficulty?
I don't know about "without much difficulty" but I play both. I borrowed a fretted one to see if I got on with bass. When I went to buy one, I tried a fretless and bought that instead! Last week I did buy a fretted Epiphone Violo and love it to bits It's just down to practice really. I'm not a brilliant bassist (or guitarist either!) but I do enjoy it and started to gig last year. I plan on doing a lot more gigs this year. I will use both if I can. Brian
21. I use a Korg Pandora with the metronome built in. You can plug your MP3 in and practice or use the metronome. It's great to sit with the head phones on (not annoying anyone). Lots of amps modelled I got it second hand off Ebay for £40.......
22. Welcome to the forum. I too only picked up the Bass and Guitar after a long break. This is a great forum! Cheers Brian
