1. SOLD .. pending the usual. Looks to be on its way to France.....
2. HI Mike Thanks - I'll send you a PM (and realise that we've spoken on ebay already re. the pickups) .. and Welcome to BassChat !
3. bumpagain .. seems to be busy in the run-up to Xmas !.......
4. Yes... never been very keen on active pickups: I bought these to replace the Active MEC's and then found a good deal on the 1/4-lb.'ers, so ended up with both and then had to decide between the two (pairs). Found the latter to be more suited to the bass.
5. .. if you've got a spare £5k, or very wealthy friends... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=015
6. back to P1 BUMP (and a week to run on ebay)....
7. Here's the other pickups I bought 'potentially' for the GMR - they're also on ebay (link below). They're actually a 'better' pickup than the 1/4-lb.'ers I fitted, but didn't suit the bass so well. They're probably not so good a 'deal' as the MEC's I've listed/ebayed but are completely new and have the box(es), instructions etc etc. Just thought it best to add them here in case somebody might be looking for a new set and could save some ££. STK-J2 Hot for jazz bass® by Seymour Duncan Higher output single-coil-sized Stack®. Similar to the Classic (Vintage-voiced) Stack - STK-J1 Classic for jazz bass® , but with increased output and a thicker-sounding mid-range response. Comes with four-conductor hookup cable and logo cover. Perfect for country, pop, blues, and classic rock. One of the most popular Basslines pickups. It captures the same great tone, presence and response of the SJB-1 Vintage single coil, but without the annoying hum. Comes with four-conductor hookup cable (optional 4-wire or 2-wire connection, depending upon what you need) and logo cover. Neck pickup is slightly shorter, as per original Fender pickups and routings. These were bought for a project but never used. So they're brand-new and with original boxes, instructions etc. rrp on these is about £75 each, though I think you can get them for about £60 each online (plus postage). ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=006 £88 (posted)
8. sorry, forgot the link ! :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=006
9. Warwick MEC active bass pickups -jazz configuration: m 60201 s (Short/Neck) and m 60201 L (long/Bridge). They were taken out of a European Custom bass (GMR 'Pi' - on the basses section) and replaced with a passive pickup/active-EQ system. The pickups are effectively new, showing little sign of use and the MEC (gold) logos are not worn. Top sound/specs and also have a full length of wire(s) attached, including the battery connection. £42 delivered. (I have these listed on ebay currently: seems to be quite some interest, so will be leaving them there if the bidding commences)
10. I'd be inclined agree with 'Foxen' and WOT, depending upon how far you've progressed: whilst I was based in Tianjin, I bought a 'Precision' bass from one of the better music shops there. It didn't have a Fender logo (...that's easy to add of course) .. but the build quality and playability was excellent; the thing is, it was the only one (of about eight) that was playable (although the shop owner kept telling me that they were 'all the same' .. well, to look at, from a distance they were!...). BQ is the major problem there - as I think it was initally in Japan, and later Korea. So, if it's a good example then it'll play fine. But - and I have no idea how they can do it, other than the generally LOW cost of living there - these were very cheap.. and I'm taking about <£50 !!
11. decided to give this a try on ebay :- http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=006 .. if any BC'er can offer £975 prior to 07:09 GMT on 2nd Dec (a Sunday), then I'll be delighted to remove it from ebay 12 hours before the auction end (.. as they've now prevented sellers from stating that items are for sale elsewhere). That's £975 inclusive of 24h. delivery (but not PayPal).
12. bumped back to the first page .....
13.
I have edited the original post for you matey
THANKS Chris ... should of thought of that !.....
14. BUMP + Update: as Chris (Ped) created the original post I cannot edit, but just to let you (all) know - the current price is £699 including delivery (24h) !!! Hi Nick: must admit that I had forgotten .. but I do remember the bass !! .. very nice FL5, and I don't think Eggle made many like it !
15. Not sure - some aspects of the bass look very similar to mine, others don't (but that could be just the lighting in the photos). I didn't get the bass from this guy, so not sure if maybe a fretted and fretless (matching) pair were originally made (?)....
16. BUMP ed back to page-1. Had a couple of trade offers but really prefer a cash sale. Offers based on price considered.
17. Are these sepia photos, or has the bass been refinished (coloured)?... I remembered it more like this:- .... it's true that I'm not a fan of the 'Burner' / budget Smiths but this does look a nice example (you didn't see flame like this generally, from what I recall).. and I do like Ken's high-end models (.. just don't like the prices!).. Best of luck with the sale Mark
18. Thanks PED ... did you mean the bass or WP's playing?!.. (or both)? I don't think the GMR basses are widely available as yet in the UK .. but could well become so in the future: good concept(s) / build quality with decent prices (.. though, unfortunately, likely to rise if the basses become popular).
19. Nick - thanks for the comments. The bass is, as you say, quite stunning; it's effectively a brand new 'Marleaux' with the BB75 body and original electronics. I suppose that, as a modified 'Carvin' it might be viewed cautiously, but as a Marleaux 5 it's something of a bargain... McG: I did contact BJ re. the Smith which didn't really appeal. The upgrades do sound good, and I certainly hope you find (out) what you're looking for ....
20. Stunning Surine Protocol 6-string (one of only two made) This unique (well, almost!) bass is one of two that Surine luthier Kenneth Lofquist built under his own name/logo. Ken Lofquist is THE luthier / builder for all of the Scott Surine high-end bass range. The two basses are identifiable bacause of the Lofquist (rather then the "SS/Surine") logo on the headstock... other than that, the bass is essentially the same as a very special Surine-6 !! . Sounds huge and powerful, with sparkling highs, deep bass and a growling midrange. The neck is particularly nice because of its very shallow (flat) profile, making it much easier-playing than some 6'ers. The long top horn gives the bass a really nice balance and the deep cutaways give easy access all the way to the 24th fret. The combined Bartolini pickups + EQ provide optimum tone. A new bone nut was recently installed and a pro set-up completed. This is the ultimate in USA handmade, exotic basses.. on a par with the likes of Ken Smith etc. Specs : 35" scale; burled Brazilian Rosewood top w/ matching headstock cap; Honduras Mahogany core; Indian Roswood rear cap; 3-piece maple neck-through-body construction; Purpleheart accents; Ebony fingerboard; 24 frets; Bartolini soapbar pickups (with Barto active tone system including three band boost/ cut); 9-volt Bartolini NTCTH 3-band preamp; Separate volume for each pickup; 19mm string spacing (adjustable 16mm - 19mm); Gotoh tuners; ABM bridge; finished in a low maintenance Satin nitrocellulose ; gold hardware; gig bag This bass (as a Surine Protocol 6) retails for $6,795 (err, that's IN the USA, of course!) 21. Additional link:- http://youtube.com/watch?v=LQaMJWgz1hg&feature=related .. to Wojtek Pilichowski on the GMR stand (Messe 2005) which shows the new range of basses. There are also some pretty impressive youtube links (once you're there) to some solos etc etc. .. some of which feature WP's unique l.e.d-lit 'Pi' 4-banger....
22. bump / update .. just to let you know that the bass is now back with me and still available !! Looking for close offers....
