1.
But play the bass to the verses of such well-known songs as "All right now", "Honky tonk women", or "Highway to hell" and who will recognise them?
I'd recognise them instantly, as they're exactly the same as When Doves Cry and Kiss! (We've already done that one, Ed. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/275790-the-worlds-most-recognisable-bass-line/page__view__findpost__p__2946088 )
 2.
You Brits are a strange lot, using your own language in a way that you yourselves understand perfectly!
Yep.
 3.
I thought of that one too, but "Van der Graaf Generator" and "recognisable" don't sit together well They remain one of my favourite bands ever... which may appear a little ironic as they don't have a bass player (except for short stints around 1970 and, of course, in the late-70s version in this clip).
Edit: of course they recorded one recognisable tune: Theme One. Which they didn't write. And on which their "Hendrix of the voice" vocalist and focal point of the band doesn't sing (And there's no bass player on it either.) Edit edit: that was supposed to be an edit and not an act of self-quotation! As you were...
 4.
Van der Graaf: "Pioneers over C" Tune in at slightly before 2:19 or 5:47 or 14:33 (or just listen to the whole thing of course - it's only 17 minutes long). For the uninitiated: yes, they are indeed Van der Graaf Generator.
I thought of that one too, but "Van der Graaf Generator" and "recognisable" don't sit together well They remain one of my favourite bands ever... which may appear a little ironic as they don't have a bass player (except for short stints around 1970 and, of course, in the late-70s version in this clip).
 5.
When doves cry by Prince.
And, somewhat brazenly plagiarising himself, he used exactly the same bass line in Kiss!
 6. Welcome! You'll find plenty of other ripe old bass players here.... One hour a day is a great plan, and an even better one if it's spent learning rather than talking rubbish in Off Topic and drooling over gear in the Marketplace like the rest of us!
 7. I think I've talked myself out of it. The cut-down version did what I wanted it to do, Apparently the full version's polyphonic audio-to-MIDI is amazing, but pretty much all of my polyphonic audio starts life as MIDI anyway. And the money could go towards that nice new vacuum cleaner I've got my eye on...
 8.
Kids expression says it all.

Amazing what you can do a recycled child's trampoline isn't it.
"If you don't behave, I'll turn your trampoline into a banjo bass, then you'll be sorry!"
 9. I bought Studio One 3 Professional a while ago, and it comes with a licence for Melodyne Essential. I've been happy using Waves Tune for pitch correction, so I didn't activate the Melodyne licence until yesterday, after seeing a video of its neat audio-to-midi trick. As soon as I registered, I was invited to upgrade to Melodyne Editor (the one that does polyphonic tricks), at 1/2 price, i.e. €149 rather than €299. The catch is that this offer is only available for 14 days. So, so you have any success stories with Melodyne Editor that couldn't be done with Waves Tune or Melodyne Essential?
 10.
I can't go out tonight , especially with the vote finishing on a new year , and I only need another 7 votes or so to pip it at the post
No no no, even more reason why you should be out tonight... going door to door, canvassing for votes!
 11. IIRC from Standing in the Shadows of Motown, The Motown house band had three guitars, playing low, mid and high parts respectively. A lot of the work will be done in the arrangement: leaving space for each other rather than all playing at one then trying to EQ a solution.
 12. +1 for the Yamaha BB. Earlier this year I picked up a s/h BB425 which is amazing value. If you're after a 4-string, look no further than the Korean Squier P/J for sale in my sig below....
 13.
Have a great time everyone. I've no doubt BC will be full of seasonal cheer. And spare a thought for folk less fortunate - the ones without Precisions!
Fixed

 15.
Blue oyster cults' biggest hit , was about recording music on your home computer and the frustration that goes with it . The somg 'don't fear the reaper ', suggests that they are not fans of GarageBand
As well as being decades ahead of their time on the recording front, the cult also predicted the rise of the blue oyster:
 16. Some of those make this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TENNESSEE-15-STRING-EXTENDED-RANGE-BASS-/291630566887 look positively restrained.
 17. I hope you all are simply having a wonderful Christmas time. Or Happy Chrismukkah. Or whatever it is for you.

 20.
Yeah, but they said 'Bohemian Rhapsody' was too long to be a single.
...even though it's shorter than Hey Jude! Albums titles have different rules, e.g. My People Were Fair and Had Sky in Their Hair... But Now They're Content to Wear Stars on Their Brows
 21.
The actual term is bestiality. It is frequently mispronounced, and consequently mis-spelled.
That's a bit long for song title, don't you think?
 22. Yup. After years of being a P and occasionally P/J man, I've just discovered the neck pickup on a J. I had it my head that the reason for a J was the bridge-pickup-tone-rolled-off sound, but recently I read (probably here) that player X usually used the neck pickup when he played a J, so I gave it a go with tone tone wide open: lovely!
 23. Easy solution: don't google it. Also, there's no copyright in titles.
