My brand spanking new ball of excitement arrived today - my first head, an Ashdown Superfly 500. I'm buying a cab for it post xmas, so for now i gave it a trial through headphones, and i found it was clipping a lot. After hearing dodgy things about the chinese powerboards i'm paranoid - is this because of the amp or the headphones? Will it be fine run through a cab? The headphones are plugged into the line out. The volume on the bass is max, and the input volume on the amp is to the top of the green bars on the digital read out, which is where Ashdown advise it to be. To have any real volume on the master though means you get quite regular clipping, i.e, for it to be more then a modest volume through the headphones. Sorry, i'm a complete amp noob, as stated this is my first head. Can anyone shed any light on this and help me out?

Ashdown Superfly 1000? Would be 250 watts into an 8 ohm cab or 500 into a 4ohm cab. £219 on soundslive - i love me Superfly 500, really fun little amp!

I've just taken delivery of a superfly too, infact my laptop is on it now as i type! I'm playing through headphones from the line out and it's clipping quite a bit - is this normal? i'm a total noob with amps i'm afraid.

I play in a ska/punk band, and i would say my influences didn't come from ska or punk predominantly. In the musical circle itself, i would say The Specials and Madness basslines have had the biggest influence on me, the use of 3rds and 5ths to write the tight rythmns, but my main influence has been my guitarist. We picked up our instruments together and started played together after about a month of starting, and that band has evolved over 4 years to where we are now. His bluesy understones have had a severe impact on my bass playing style, lots of fun little runs and utilising blues/pentatonic scales.

The two electric blue combos, the 12 and the 15 inch models, both run at 180 watts rms. I heard that they run at 300 watts with an extension cabinet - is this true? If so what ohms would the cab have to be rated at? I can't find anything about it after some searching. Parker

Just saw a nice trace 4x10 combo - pairing that with a 1x15 would be ridiculously loud and crisp?

Hey guys, After gigging extensively in the south west, i've realised it's time to make the jump. Normally i play through my bass f/x box straight into DI, getting some back through the moniters. However, at the latest gig i played through a Peavey head into a Marshall 4x10 and the difference was just unreal. It's got my heart set on a stack but i'm useless when it comes to amps so i ask you the men and women of basschat for advice! I play in a ska/punk/dub/indie band (yeah, really) and i play with a pretty 'phat' warm sound but i like a good punch for when taking the lead (i play some slap and have a lot of tasty running basslines). My budget is about 400 and i would go second hand if it meant i could get better gear. I'm thinking a pairing of a 4x10 and a 1x15 would do give me the sound i want? Or is that not right? Also, what head would you reccomend? Weight or size isn't an issue on anything, i'm in a 6 piece band and 4 of us are 6'4 rugby players! Thanks guys, Parker
