Hey Guys Here we have a CMI Rickenfaker which I managed to pick up from Cash Converters out of sheer luck. I always fancied a Rickenbacker for the famous clang and lovely looks so it made my day that i managed to find a genuine top quality faker. Alas, after playing with her in a band environment it's not my cup of tea to play and the tone just doesn't quite cut it for ska and i've realised i'm a stingray man. This one is from the mid 70's and that is as accurate as you can be according to our resident walking rickenfaker Bassassin. He said this: 'Cleartone Musical Instruments, which was a sub-brand of Marshall Amps, apparently set up by Big Jim to side-step a dodgy/restrictive distribution deal the Marshall brand was tied to. As well as amps they sold guitars & basses, predominantly Japanese-made copies but also some original designs made in the UK by Ned Callan. This of course is a JapCrap copy & a damn fine one it looks too. These are the same, as far as I can tell, as the Shaftesbury & Cimar-badged through-necks, and are very accurate, realistically they only compromise on the original with the generic little tuners and single truss rod. Because they appear under a few different brands, this type is fairly common but I'm really stumped as to who made them. I can say though it wasn't Matsumoku (who did make CMI bolt-neck fakers), Fujigen or Kasuga - their Rick copies are well-documented and have idiosyncrasies and differences that make them easy to recognise. As far as I can see this one looks in great condition, very unusual to see the bridge pup cover still in place, they are usually the first thing to get removed/lost, just like real Ricks.' As you can see from the pictures she's in amazing condition for the age. The neck is very fast too and you can really fly around the fretboard, which is varnished. There is a small amount of buzz off the open E off the first fret, but according to a tech i spoke to it's nothing a small set up wont be able to solve. Two of the pickup selectors also have a bit of hum as the earth wires are slightly loose but this is a quick and easy solder job. You can go from a really warm thump to the classic rick clang with these things, the sound really is authentic rickenbacker. I'd be looking for £380 but i'm open to offers. I'd also be interested in trades but i'm mainly looking for cash as i'm going away to uni at the end of the month. Any questions, just shout, Tom

We played at 'Teenage Rampage' on thursday at the Gloucester Guildhall. It was our first gig there and it is by far and away the best venue in Gloucestershire. It was a 10 band battle of the bands and we played our socks off, full of energy and everything went right. We came second to a band called 'The Crowd' but we were given the same prize as them - a chance to play at 'Brisfest'. We were told afterwards by the judge and brisfest rep that we were 'an incredible live outfit' and that we came second because of 'the bureaucracy he has to fulfill'. Our singer is 19 and you're all supposed to be under 18 and for a bunch of 16 year olds the crowd were exceptional - still hurt!

Some songs of ours have very very tight BANG sort of endings, but a lot we draw out and then i'll run down the scale that the song is and we all stop on the root or i'll slide up to an octave higher and we'll stop after two bars of that. It's odd, that sounds very rehearsed but we've fallen into that. That's what you get when you start a band at 13 and then learn how to play your instruments i suppose, we've an intricate understanding of each other.

That belongs to someone on here. It's a 62' jazz.
