  1. BLOCKBUSTARZ 70's Glam covers band at The Dreadnought in Bathgate last night, one of our fav venues. Had some issues with Handbox WB-100 DI being too hot (no pad on the desk) Bass was clipping in first set. SE fitted a DI in the break and all sorted. Great turnout with lots of dancers all night after the initial staring at the outfits for first few songs. Mobile cameras going all night from 8:30 till we finished 11:30 with a 10min break in middle. No vids or pics as yet. Group of "fans" came down from Dundee to see us after we played Beat Generator few mths back and quite a few came up from Dumfries & Galloway to see us too. Looks like we are getting a fan base Thoroughly enjoyed it. Dave
  2. Aye you've come a long way from those early horse box gigs to ballroom gigs and that's just the changing rooms. Have to admit i wouldn't have gone with the horsebox. Our stage gear cost us a few quid and i'm careful not to damage it. Dave
  3. What kind of venues are you playing to get band dressing rooms and M&M's Dave
  4. That sounds like an interesting idea to include it in a contract. Lot of our gigs don't have contracts tho but maybe we should look into that a bit more. Dave
  5. We are quite lucky that our drummer has a friend with a very large house he rents out for holidays. It has a large function room and he lets us use it if not being rented or there's a cancellation. We managed to set up the PA with both versions we use. Punk band normally just use QSC 12's and the Glam band playing bigger venues we use the 15's which are 3 way cabs altho guitar and bass normally just use our backline unless its a very big venue we bring the 2 subs (QSC) but we need to hire a van for them. Lot of venues we play have their own PA these days which are normally OK gear with some cracking rigs and Sound guys. If we use the largest PA we bring a sound guy that we know. Dave
  6. Yep your full band needs discipline when setting up and sound checking. No faffing around or blethering unless its about the gig. Once set up and sound checked you can chat all you like until gig starts. We give ourselves 1 hr with punk band and 2 hrs with Glam band mainly because it takes time to get dressed up plus we have 2 lead singers and 2 BV's plus sound effects altho desk is a digital one and we store the band settings to give us a starting point at the gig. We also have back drop and more lights with Glam band. If we need to eat before playing depending on travel times we allow an extra 30-45mins. Dave
  7. You wont be disappointed. Great bit of kit. Dave
  8. I wish but i've been waiting on a Mesa TT800 for over 2yrs now and they are due end of this year. That's a priority for me. Dave
  9. Think that was my other choice but went for the Shure because our band has experience with Shure wireless systems and we've found them extremely reliable. Our female singer has opted for the sennheiser wireless mic system altho its the amp top receiver version. Dave
  10. Just superb bit of kit. So many rock bassists used these too. One of my bass heroes Gary Thain of Uriah Heep used an Acoustic rig. GLWTS Dave
  11. I found the feedback switch tightens up the low end. That's just my own experience and i'm not sure what the technical answer might be. It feels like it cuts low end boom a bit. I normally have it on normal but i'm going to try it both ways on Sat night at sound check at decent volumes to see the effect it has. I have the A4 info sheet i got with the amp but not sure what i did with it to see what the explanation is again. If i come across it i'll post it here. Dave
  12. Pretty sure @theplumber had some spares ordered recently. Stevie ?. Dave
  13. You won't find a better Fender J bass than these CIJ versions. I'd never part with mine. This is an incredible price for a cracking bass. Dave
  14. Main reason i have a wireless is i wear platform boots in the 70's Glam covers band and i don't want to be tripping over cables. Its hard enough walking in those boots 😂 Dave
  15. I've been doing some experimentation with the WB-100 mk2. At one of the gigs where i was struggling with my tone even tho i was using my Gramma pad i ended up boosting the bass to around 2 and cut mids to 11 and treble flat. Gain at 12 and master 11-12 o'clock. No buttons selected. Mid was on the higher freq (i think its 500Hz but would need to double check) It sounded great standing directly in front of the amp but hearing various phone recordings the clarity was lost. I can normally hear the mids clearly. That was a mistake. Got the amp home and found with the same bass that it was very low ended tone and a bit boomy. Where i ended up was Gain 12, Bass flat, Mid 1 (on lower freq), Treble at 11, Master as required. No buttons selected. I think bringing B back to flat and boosting the low mids will stop any chance of boom but still give me a nice clean low end. I believe it was simply down to lack of volume in the mix making me think it was an EQ issue. Luckily i can ramp the amp up at home to a decent volume altho its never the same as a live gig volumes. I once read somewhere that you should set EQ flat and get your volume level set and then tweak your EQ. I need to keep that in mind at every gig especially now that i'm using the gramma pad for almost every gig. Dave
  16. If i remember right Gary Thain had a bad shock from his gear back in 70's Dave
  17. Got the new cable from designacable and its far better quality cable than the original Shure version. The angled jack makes a huge difference meaning the jack cable doesn't hit my leg when moving about on stage. Less risk of damage too. Dave
  18. When i saw the bass tab and octaves i could remember that being a difficult bit to get the timing right especially if your drummer does the live sped up version. Going back a few yrs since doing it properly probably back in 70's. Last time i jammed it i'm sure i just played straight 8's instead of the octave thing mainly because i'd forgotten all about it. Dave
  19. Its one of those songs i was brought up on and one of the first rock songs i tried on bass. Was just having a look at the tab for Paranoid and had forgotten all about the chorus octave 8ths. Dave
  20. That looks good too and can do more with it. Dave
  21. Have to admit i was surprised last year when the gym owner who is in his 30's started playing AC/DC and even more surprised when a lot of girls / women knew who they were and told him it was great to work out to. A classic band never dies Dave
  22. Thinking of getting one too. Screwfix have them. Want one i recognise the manufacturer. Megger version is a little more expensive at £20 but worth it i reckon. Dave.
  23. Please note i was kidding with my earlier comment on who copied who in 80's. I went with Warwick in late 80's because they were more readily available in Scotland thru Sound Control. I had never seen a Spector bass at that time. Have to say i like that bass. Dave
  24. Think you're just fuelling the fire now @cheddatom. We all know Spector copied Warwick back in the 80's Oh happy days. Dave
