  1. First Xmas show tonight with BLOCKBUSTARZ Glam covers band at a sold out Longstone Hearts Club in Edinburgh. Great night. Few wee mistakes crept in for some odd reason. Xmas songs went well tho. Quite a small stage for us and had to watch where i was standing as i had my pedals in front of me and guitarists pedal behind me. Also had a the PA cab on my left next to headstock but all went well and didn't trip over anything or thump the bass of PA. Few pics on FB already but no vids as yet. Here we go. SET #1 SET #2
  2. I do and i'm a big fan of them. Actually got Michelin cross-climates on to see how they fair. Dave
  3. Our singer was taking sips of honey tonight before at break and at the end as his throat was struggling a bit. Dave
  4. WOW i see what you mean. The 45 min set thing is a bit "out of date" these days. General rule of thumb is two 1hr sets. Because we have costume changes in Glam band we take a break of circa 20mins sometimes shorter and depending on venue sometimes its nearer 30mins at request of venue to allow for buffet, raffles or Bingo. (yes there are still clubs that do all that and to be fair they do supply us with sandwiches, sausage rolls and juice at the break and my wife and our female singer have won in the various raffles so all good there) Its no fun being in a band where there's friction and i'd only stay if it was purely a business arrangement that benefits me. Not learning their parts and not getting a decent on stage mix is poor. Its something we strive to get right at soundcheck to allow each other to be heard and to be able to hear the others enough to follow what's happening. You have my sympathy with this band. I don't think i could work with that @JapanAxe. Serious thought on where you go with it might be required. Perhaps stay with it for now but look around for other options. Its easier to find work when you are already working. ? Its a busy time of year for bands too and dropping out now could mean losing a fair bit of gig money on run up to Xmas. All the very best with what you decide. Dave
  5. Gonna be fun getting to our Edinburgh gig tonight. Both singers in Bathgate and Boness have about 3-4" snow this morning. Happy days. Dave
  6. You need to give us an idea of what went wrong so we can avoid it Dave
  7. Not a gig tonight but a 3hr rehearsal to polish up on our Xmas songs for our first Xmas show on Sat. night. All went well from the start. So we just had some of the cake we bought for our singers birthday today. Dave
  8. Once saw Ray Stiles bassist with Mud play Radar Love riff over the talking part of Tiger Feet and i've occasionally done that at our gigs but i play it quietly except for the standard notes that are on the original. Dave
  9. Nice. Sounds like a fun band to be in. 👍 Dave
  10. That looks like an interesting band set up. Do you mind if i ask what style of music you play. Dave
  11. Pretty sure i got it from a fellow BC'er many moons ago and thought it made a lot of sense. Can't remember who it was tho. ? Dave
  12. Doesn't fit into either of my Glam covers or punk covers bands but its always good fun to confuse the audience. 🤩 Roundabout another good one to noodle with. Difficult for me as i don't use a pick. Dave
  13. I've dabbled a bit with the keys part from the start of On The Run doing it on the bass. Its probably not accurate but a few folks have recognised it when i'm just setting up my rig. Weird what people recognise. I once played a part from Genesis Suppers Ready VI Apocolypse in 9/8 where bass does EEE-EE-E-EEE-EE-E and someone recognised it. Dave
  14. My soundcheck is usually the start of Money as it covers all strings and makes it easy for SE to set my tone. I've had a round of applause after playing that wee riff a few times. Please note i am a Floyd fan. Dave
  15. The funniest ones are when people buy a ticket clearly advertised as a 70's Glam Rock covers band and then asks us to play some funk, AC/DC or even U2. We've even been asked to play "something modern". The Sweet was modern in 1973. Dave
  16. You're "nicked" there Daryl. Dave
  17. 100%. Oddly enough we had a quick cost of our gear on Sun afternoon before the doors opened and it was circa £30k. That included spare amps and basses / guitars and spare desk. The PA alone cost the drummer around £14k altho we didn't bring the subs on this gig. Main desk is an Allen & Heath digital one no idea what version as its all rocket science to me. My own gear incl cabs, amps, basses, wireless, effects and clothing cost me around £7k in total possibly more. When you stop and take stock of what you've bought to keep your band running without hitch it soon adds up. Clothes alone cost me over £1k. Dave
  18. I'm quite lucky that during break time i'm getting changed for the 2nd set performance and those outfits take time to get into especially the platform boots. After Sundays gig the singers wife came into changing room and said there was a guy asked if he could get his photo taken with my wig on. I said no of course not as i wear that wig and i'm not letting a complete stranger put it on. Its like letting someone else try your underwear on. Disgusting. Apparently he wasn't too happy about it. Its the same with the jackets. People want to try the jackets on and have even lifted them from front of stage when the singer removes his and puts it down when too warm and they think they have the right to lift it and wear it to dance with. They don't appreciate the fact that those jackets are hand made and cost from £300 upwards. I did have a young woman get very excited about my boots on Sunday, so much that she went and brought her friends over to the front of stage to point them out. We were playing at the time and i thought she was pointing towards my effects board as if something was wrong and then the singer said its your boots Dave. Bit of a "DOH" moment there. To be honest i'm not used to the attention at gigs and usually leave it to singers and guitarists but in last few yrs i've had a lot of compliments about my playing. Maybe i'm just taking my ability for granted as i've been doing the same thing for 40+ yrs. I guess the outfits do tend to draw attention to you. Dave
  19. Love Wichita Lineman. One of the classics IMHO. Sounds like a great duo to listen to in your local pub. Dave
  20. Yesterday was an afternoon gig for BLOCKBUSTARZ Glam covers band in Airdrie. Quite a decent sized venue and a large stage area to play on so that was great. Wasn't sold out but a decent sized audience for a first gig in this club. Lots of dancing and lots of vids being taken with mobiles. Decent applause for each song. Was an odd crowd tho as they were slow to start but not sure if they were stunned by our appearance. Feedback from the Club committee members that booked us was excellent and they've never seen anything like it in the club before. They asked us to do 2024 Hogmanay gig which has now been confirmed. They also want us to play thru the year as well so all good. Sound on stage was great too. Singer/guitarist managed to coerce me into doing an audience walk around on the last song which has a guitar medoly of songs before going into Bay City Rollers Shang-a-lang. Dance floor was full and i kept getting dragged into photo shoots with several women. All great fun and that's the first time i've ever had the nerve to do that. No pics or vids yet but hopefully some will appear soon. Dave
  21. I was able to fit 2 Berg AE112 cabs and a 19" rack and 2 basses into my wife's Cooper S about 10 yrs ago. I did remove them when i sold the car tho. Dave
  22. Only joking there Daryl. I'm one of those folks that cant even be bothered with drunks at gigs but it goes with the territory. Have to admit that some of the clubs i've played last year the afternoon gigs were great because people don't seem to get too drunk. Just "happy". Dave
  23. 100%. Coldest i've seen here in central belt Scotland was -26 oC back in early 80's. I was working outside doing a backshift and my hands were literally sticking to things outside that i was working on. After that it was -22 oC in 2010 and altho not as cold it never climbed above 0 oC for approx 3 mths that winter. The amount of damage it caused at work with frozen and burst cooling water pipes on large compressors and gas plants was "trying" to say the least paddling thru 1-2 ft of warm water in plant shops to reach an isolation valve. Happy Days and thankfully long gone for me now. I don't miss working at all Dave
  24. I had the 12" combo and ext speaker and altho it always sounded great out front and fits into a mix really well i never quite liked the onstage sound and sold it on to get my first Mesa rig with Mpulse 600 into PH212. I'm really enjoying the Ampeg SVT7 with Mesa SW210/115 cabs. The ampeg has a little bit of grind to it when i dig in that i really like. Dave
  25. Mobiles generally make bass sound more mid focused is what i've found. Sounds pretty good there. Nice one. Great song to play too. Dave Dave
