3 gigs in March with Glam band. I've quite enjoyed the down time to be honest especially since deciding to call it a day with them at the end of the year or a replacement is found whichever comes first. Drummer told me yesterday they had no plans to replace me and the band might just fold as he's 66 this year and might retire too depending on whether they can persuade me to stay and continue a bit longer. No pressure then. Dave

I think my fav artists that i've met have been Phil Collins who bought us coffee and cakes, Phil Lynott who played pool with us and John Sloman when he was with Uriah Heep. He was also a very friendly guy and the one i forgot who also came over and sat with us in the lounge area for a few beers was Francis Dunnery from It Bites when they supported Robert Plant at Barrowlands in Glasgow. Maybe they were having a bad day ? We were just the helping hands rather than connected with the band so maybe that's the difference. ? Can't fault Mark Stanway tho. He even offered to take us out to the local chippie for a treat before the Magnum gig. Dave

I remember the bass going from a standard Jazz tone to all of a sudden that well defined bass growl and i believe he changed to an Aria for that album, possibly the SB1000. Quite a significant change of sound. I once helped them in with their gear at our local venue probably circa 82 (owner let us in for free to the gig at night and a few free beers) Always thought they were an odd bunch. Catley came across as very vain and stand offish, Lowe couldn't see 3 ft in front of him on stage without his glasses and he wouldn't wear them live, drummer wouldn't let anyone touch his drum gear so he carried all his in on his own. The only decent one was Mark Stanway who was very pleasant guy and happy to chat with us. Also remember Stanway when he appeared with Grand Slam and again a nice guy altho Grand Slam were all great company with Phil playing pool with us in the bar even buying his share of the rounds. Its little moments like that when you get to see the real people behind the musicians. Happy days Rob. Dave

Hi Rob do you mind if i ask what software you are using to slow the songs down without detuning the music. ? I have a few Magnum songs to learn and can't find TABS or transcript for any Magnum songs anywhere. Slowing down the songs might help me pick out the bass notes more easily as they fade into the background noise quite a bit. Most of their songs are pretty straightforward with just the occasional ones having a nice wee bass run. Dave

Its a gorgeous area with some fascinating history and of course the home of Nessie and the greater mountain Haggis. That's the one with 2 shorter legs on its left hand side for running round mountainsides altho it can only run in a clockwise direction. Dave

One of the worst i saw was a really intricate and nice bass line but the camera went to the guitarist who was lightly strumming a chord. Can't remember who the band was tho. Dave

Think that's a wise choice and so good that you are now pain free. That has to be worth it. You can always stay on BC and enjoy the bass geekery. Dave

Possibly my fav rig of all time, just a bit old and heavy these days but it sounds so good. Depending on how i feel will decide what bass i use but usually its my Geddy Jazz or Godin PJ with occasional Warwick Thumb when i fancy something special. Dave

ACS Pro 17's for me too. So good i even bought my wife the same as she attends all my gigs and is usually sat in front or near the PA. Dave

Asked to audition for a Magnum tribute band next weekend but i'm not 100% sure it will get enough gigs. Will have a think about it over this weekend and take it from there. I kinda had in in mind i was gonna just retire but hey ho. Dave
